I'm sure we've had far worse loanees over the years, but there can't have been many who've disappointed so much relative to expectation? Rolando Aarons at least scored a goal!
I think his spell here was ruined by his injury (which, depending on who you believe, he sustained in training by either kicking a goalpost in frustration or getting crunched by Ainsworth).
Aarons has to win that one, if they'd failed with a deadline signing or two he would have been in their Prem squad and he had promising loans elsewhere. Or "Nil" Davis or George "Clogg" if you go back a bit further.

Potter to Chelsea confirmed! First ex-Wycombe player to manage a former European champion? 🤔
John Gregory at Villa?
Gregory didn’t play for us as far as I remember. If managers count the second best manager we ever had managed Villa, Forest and Celtic
Neil Lennon ?
Wasn't Scott Marshall Villa manager for about 3 games too?
What about Leicester?
Appreciate the thumbs up but I think I’ve boobed. Not sure Leicester ever won a European Trophy.
Nope, played in one under O Neill after winning the league Cup, but certainly didn't win it
Not even the first ex Wycombe player to manage this particular ex Euro champ .
Ray Wilkins.
1 game for us, and caretaker manager (as well as a string of assistant manager ships there) but technically counts.
We've had one who managed a former world champion in Peter Taylor!
Ah, but they weren't a former European champion when he managed them
But have we ever had a manager who won the Champions League as a player?
I’m sure I would remember them mentioning it if they had.
Martin O Neill managed to win a couple and not mention them every week.
Kenny Swain must have caretaker managed at Forest
Well it definitely wasn't Paul Lambert, that's for sure.
I may be being pedantic but even Potter doesn't qualify. While he may have played for Wycombe he wasn't a Wycombe player as he was here on loan.
I think exactly the same thing when everyone goes on about Eze, he played for us, but he wasn't a Wycombe player
So we can disassociate ourselves from Luke Bolton?
🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣

Paul Smyth was another like Aarons. Same one goal output too.
Always seemed a real debate on him, some insistent that he was terrific and had been terrific for us, others like me never quite saw it.

Apparently he only played 9 games for Wycombe, according to Wikipedia.
Astonishing, as in my mind it was many more than that
In my mind I merge Lennons time with that of Rob Lee. Lee was a much better player for us though
Rob Lee and Steve Claridge were about the same time. If Lennon hadn't gone on to manage and be such a big mouth I'm not sure we'd remember him at all.
Lee and Claridge could still play a bit when they were here AFAIR but Lennon was clearly past it.
People used to talk about John Cornforth range being the "Corn circle", but he seemed massively mobile compared to Mr Lennon.
James Harper was another, was he a loanee? Played for Reading in the prem, but by the time he got to us looked pretty pedestrian.
Kevin Mcleod the overweight unfit winger we got from QPR. He would do his trick so slowly, the opposing full back would just disposses, him with ease.
I remember when we signed Harper he said he was so excited he’d ‘play in the car park.’ Sadly that was about his level.
