Correct. Life is about survival and reproduction. Everything else is just fluff. Well apart from an outstandingly good pint of Gales HSB circa 1986....
Still waiting for some explanations of why sports are different to other forms of entertainment - which won't be suspended. I'm genuinely curious to know what people think.
No need, it wasn't enforced from on high. The FA /EFL decided they wanted to. That's all.
Find some of the takes above odd , wether you have any time for the Monarchy or not or support the cancellations it's hardly surprising that the death of the Queen is kind of a big thing, particularly amongst those in high positions of power in this country.
Yes, but why is sport treated differently from - say - clubbing? Cancelling all forms of entertainment would be consistent, would it not? Football fans especially - as per - seem to find themselves bottom of the pile.
It isn't. If the big bosses at Pryzm (shudder) or similar wanted to close all their venues as a mark of respect they could do.
I'd suspect the reason they haven't (If they haven't, I haven't checked) is partly because they are further away from the immediate side of having any contact with those involved, and partly because football and the FA particularly takes itself far too seriously most of the time and is obsessed by PR.
Also guesswork again but the demographics are different, older people who have "known" her for many years far more likely to care.
You can't really compare governing bodies who use Royals in ambassadorial roles, remember the lobbying for the World cup, presentation of trophies etc to private business.
Personally I think going ahead with the games and allowing people to pay their respects collectively would be more symbolic than calling everything off, but it is what it is.
I think it's a poor decision, that is out of step with the reality of how people want to mourn and remember. The Queen was the ultimate example of carrying on stoically, so you'd imagine that would've been the answer.
Perhaps it's an issue of policing. Police would've been spread thin around London, and to call off London games wouldn't have gone down well with the rest of the country still playing.
FA Trophy games scheduled for Saturday have been rescheduled for Tuesday night. My local side already facing a crazy 400 mile round trip to play in front of perhaps 100 people in a first round tie now have to go into work on Monday asking for time off the next day and let their employer know that they are unlikely to get in until around 4am before Weds work. Several no doubt will not be able to play. Both teams being out of the FA Cup have a blank Saturday on the 24th when the game could have been played. The club will still have to pay for the coach booked for tomorrow.
I'd have liked to have seen a game, but a world war or major terrorism incident aside, there's not much more of a major event than a 70 year standing monarch passing away is there? Maybe it's me.
You are spot on but we now live in a world where everything has to be now, now, now and pausing for thought and reflection is a disappearing virtue. It’s only 24 hours since the Queen passed away and I can understand the decision to postpone even though I would love to have been going to the game tomorrow, especially as I was due to meet Bill Turnbull’s family.
I can understand the decision, disappointing as it is. History being made. Respect is due to the Queen and we are free to remember/ignore in our own way at least. We do not have to stand and clap for eight hours or cry hysterically for the secret police if we do not want to.
I think it was the right thing to do, it's just one weekend ffs ! Get a grip ! we started the season early anyway, it won't make any difference.
Typical of the way things are now, it's all me me me, I don't like it so I'm not happy ! And I'm going to let everyone know... have some bloody respect !!
You don't like the monarchy or what they stand for ? Where would you rather be then... USA, Russia, China, North Korea ? Some people don't realise what they've got til it's gone !!

I think it was the right decision. It’s the respectful decision. It’s the right tonal decision.
But life is about opinions.
I don't think life is about opinions
I never hardly swear but you are such a twat!!!! Maybe move to Shanghai and give us all a break.

Rugby goes ahead. Looks an increasingly weird decision from the FA
Totally correct decision by the football authorities in my opinion. Odd to me that some sports are carrying on.
Spot on.
Bit unfair on the Chinese

Yes I may have to reconsider that. Maybe France then.
Maybe some sports are just a bit more respectful regarding the current situation and the magnitude of the person being mourned?

Non, non, non. (And I don’t want the emergency services.)
Although after that I might need them.

North Korea might be a more suitable destination!

Fair point on the FA

I do try to defend the FA but…..

where is the common sense.
Life is all about priorities isn't it.
Some can't understand a game being called off after a monarch passes away after serving for 70 years.
Yet other weeks, we'll see someone losing their absolute biscuit at not being able to get food at a game? 😁
Common sense and many of the decisions made by the football hierarchy should never appear in the same sentence!
I'd have liked to have seen a game, but a world war or major terrorism incident aside, there's not much more of a major event than a 70 year standing monarch passing away is there? Maybe it's me.
How the fuck can people down thimb this !! Ffs

Each entitled to their own opinion but I personally rank this pretty low down the order of ‘important stuff’
