There's a possibility that someone "a bit more problematic" but with the support of certain sections of the country and media could be a useful check and balance where Government look to sideline all scrutiny and official processes, but that's all a bit down the line. If you look at the constitutional monarch as more of a stamping of other people's work as part of the system of parliament and ensuring it's been presented properly under threat of abolishment it's a bit more palatable than thinking of them as imposed rulers.
Maybe best to let the man have a few days to mourn his mother before we tear apart his suitability for whatever role he has.
If so, that brings us back to @Twizz's point: will everything 'frivolous' have to shut down? If so, fair enough, but I just can't see that happening at all; a lot of businesses simply won't be able to afford to.
Then again, these are rare truly unprecedented circumstances for most of us.
@StrongestTeam Just reflecting on the situation going forward - hardly tearing King Charles III apart, nor being insensitive to the grieving process. These events do prompt otherwise sensible people to behave in a somewhat authoritarian way towards others, I'm really not sure that's what the Queen stood for.
Agreed, more thinking out loud, not meant as an attack of any sort, I get why people don't want a Monarchy entirely btw but perhaps see some of it at the moment just as a job that the current government can't sell to their mates.
As others have already noted, it is pretty remarkable that the PL, EFL didn't seem to have any sort of contingency for what to do in this event. They shouldn't need to be holding meetings.
Why postpone this week when it's inevitable the funeral will be next weekend? Then you'd have to cancel two weekends' worth of games, which is disproportionate to the magnitude of this.
Well it's 11.00 am and still we wait for some news reference footie this weekend. As @ReturnToSenda has stated, how can they not have had a contingency plan already in place. Point of note, my dear lady wife had these plans in place some 18 months ago. As a consequence, by 20.00 hours last night all the eulogies & pics were already up on her employers website!
"The government's national mourning guidance states cancelling or postponing sports fixtures is not obligatory and "at the discretion of individual organisations", including on the day of the state funeral."
"On the day of the funeral, the guidance suggests events could be rescheduled so that they do not clash with the timings of the service and that organisers could hold a period of silence or play the National Anthem at events, with players wearing black armbands."
The Queen was sporty, so I don't think she'd want two weekends cancelled, and the weekend nearest the funeral makes more sense and gives people more time to change plans.
It's fairly pointless making predictions about these things, but my hunch is that they won't want to postpone two weekends worth of fixtures. They've taken the decision to postpone this weekend in the likely (not yet public) knowledge that the funeral will either be next Friday or the following Monday. I understand it is highly unlikely to be at the weekend. It's quite plausible that I am completely wrong about all of this of course.
Wasn't it Peterborough away? Having said that, I do remember driving back from Posh and hearing the news on the radio somewhere around Northampton, so I guess that's it. Don't remember anything about the actual game either.

As much as I'm going to be gutted there's probably not going to be any football tomorrow, it's just one weekend, no problem, show some respect.
Let’s not forget this is unique so precious comparisons aren’t relevant. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
Two previous royal passings I associate with Wycombe.
Diana. Watford away. Elton was there. Got a good ovation.
Queen mum. Northampton away. No idea what happened in the game. Hardly surprising being Northampton away. Probably went to TGIs.

I reckon all games will be off until after the funeral

I would imagine the various streaming services might do quite well this weekend…

Whatever happens, I do hope that the celebration of Bill Turnbull's life and support of our club is rescheduled to a Saturday home game.
Agreed, although the next one of those isn't until Oct 1

I think the weekend games will be on.

All football in NI this weekend postponed

Apparently...

And once you've cancelled two weekends what would be the logic of playing the Tuesday game, since the country would still be in a state of mourning?
All Prem and EFL fixtures cancelled
Keep going to work but don't do fun things. Sounds like Britain.
I hope they decide quickly about next weekend.
Fixtures resume on Tuesday, so it's only one game postponed
Wasn't expecting that but a bit like VAR once you start having those conversations does anyone want to be seen to argue against.
Unless they do an on-again, off-again thing. Which would be perhaps bizarre

Yet to see anyone in and around football who thinks this is the right decision (other than the bigwigs who took it)
Well said, I think that’s a perfect summing up of the situation.
Wasn't it Peterborough away? Having said that, I do remember driving back from Posh and hearing the news on the radio somewhere around Northampton, so I guess that's it. Don't remember anything about the actual game either.
Even the weather's been called off https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/1568167498410778631
Perfectly normal and rational behaviour.
Oh dear. No footy for me for a while then. A weekend of watching someone outside Balmoral pointing at Range Rovers.
Now that IS bonkers.
