Relax. Liz shaking her fist at the Frenchies, getting rid of them wokeys and cutting taxes will sort it all out. Poor old Boz...got Brexit done (except for a few details) won the Covid War, out of a job in two weeks and he's not allowed to have a couple of holidays while the country burns. They've got murals of him in Ukraine you know.
I know the Tories are big on cost-cutting so it’d make sense to save a few quid on the inevitable coronation - close family (and security detail) only, maybe hire Marylebone Town Hall and be done with it?
I know the TV rights for these things go for a few bob, but does that outweigh the cost of putting it on in the first place?
No TV rights as such, broadcasters do their own thing outside (at great expense) while the inside ceremony is pool but the rights after a 48 hour period (or something) are then held by Buck House, which is why you see all the soldiers and the carriages arriving and leaving on those royal doccos but rarely re-runs of any actual ceremony as the Buck House media (which we fund of course) charges a golden arm and leg for usage.
Those outside shots make a lot of dosh for tv companies though so I suppose they think it's worth it.
It was only that dignified servant of the nation Andy who had a tantrum (without sweating) and demanded (very reluctant) broadcasters paid to film his daughter's D-list orange coloured celebrity packed wedding. ITV drew the shortest of short straws.
I assume Saturday's game will be off? They were suspended when Philip died, weren't they? United are still playing tonight, but I guess that's different as it's UEFA.
Under Operation London Bridge we can say goodbye to football for a week or two. No disrespect to those of you who wish to mourn but other than a brief raise of the glass to the passing of a decent human being I will leave you all to it until some semblance of sanity resumes.
No way they can do that this season. Is it actually set in stone? I've read about OLB a fair few times but can't remember any specific provisions for football.
"Switchboards – the Palace, Downing Street, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport – will be swamped with calls during the first 48 hours. It is such a long time since the death of a monarch that many national organisations won’t know what to do. The official advice, as it was last time, will be that business should continue as usual. This won’t necessarily happen. If the Queen dies during Royal Ascot, the meet will be scrapped. The Marylebone Cricket Club is said to hold insurance for a similar outcome if she passes away during a home test match at Lord’s. After the death of George VI in 1952, rugby and hockey fixtures were called off, while football matches went ahead. Fans sang Abide With Me and the national anthem before kick off. The National Theatre will close if the news breaks before 4pm, and stay open if not. All games, including golf, will be banned in the Royal Parks."
I understand the funeral day, but I would prefer the games to go ahead this weekend so we can show respect with a suitable minute's silence myself. We've got ten days of this...before we start on the Coronation run-up.
Balanced against the loss of the ‘look at me! Look at what I’ve done to save you money (ssh don’t ask awkward questions..)’ I’m not quite sure about how Ms Truss will feel about it,
(But I have to admit one of my early thought was ‘I bet Boris is spitting chips that it didn’t happen on his watch*’
*No real need to point out that his government has been asleep at the wheel for 3 months

Not looking good for Her Maj. Is there a chance Weekend footy might be off if there is a death of a Monarch?
The fact she’s at Balmoral and staying there adds to the concern along with the family movements

Or just don't do it at all
God Save the King

I think that’s very likely. Had the news come earlier I’m sure the United game would have been off.
A shame. Bill's memory deserves a wonderful celebration.
If our game is cancelled on Saturday then I’m sure we can celebrate Bill on Tuesday night or another date.

True. A Saturday game would obviously best, though.
Here we go:

I believe the funeral is on the tenth day which is next saturday. No games then for sure.

The rail unions might be in a rather difficult place then.
I think it’s 10 more days so Sunday,
I understand the 10th day is Sunday 18th, not Saturday 17th.
The funeral will be held on Monday 19th.
But it wouldn’t be surprising for all the Saturday games to be postponed.
This will compound Bozzer's vast irritation at his ousting...Truss gets a Royal funeral AND a Coronation to begin her memoirs.
I think there’ll be devastation in the Tickov family if Derby (A) is moved to a Tuesday night. It can’t be what her maj would have wanted.
RMT have suspended the next two strikes

I believe today is day one. So day 10 would be saturday. Maybe they don't do these things on weekends though?
Cant see there being games next Saturday at least. if its Monday surely a bank holiday?
