Scott McGleish made a very reasonable comment about players (like Tyla) who had grown up in U23 football. Essentially he said that every game is a meaningless friendly and no coach ever got sacked for losing a game. Only when players get into senior football do they properly develop. I personally think U23 football has stunted player development for the same reason. Combined with player hoarding I just don’t see it’s a good thing for the game.
I am coming to the conclusion that it will be a bit disappointing if we do eventually sign Nathan Bishop.
This thread has meandered around and disappeared into interesting and wonderfully obscure tangents (the meaning of time for example) and deserves, in my opinion, being preserved in aspic (or the modern, virtual equivalent) as a perfect example of what happens when a group of (occasionally) intelligent, (mostly) literate and (spectacularly) uninformed football supporters with too much time on their hands and not enough actual football to complain about, get together on a football fans forum. Peak Gasroom.
For the balance of the universe it just feels right that this was ultimately only ever about hypotheticals rather than an actual reality.
(On the other hand, I do actually want to see him as our player one day - soonish would be nice)
I believe the Nathan Bishop deal has been signed for weeks, but the delay is because the club has had unexpected difficulty in securing the services of this magician for the reveal.
The fact he's got a year left to run on his contract is probably a bit of an obstacle for starters! Is he out of favour anyway? He was on the bench v Brighton.
To be fair @Otter87 Henderson's bursting was at the hierarchy and Ole promising him he would be No 1. I would imagine once the ship has steadied and De Gea moves on at the end of the season, they'll probably have him back once he was secured Forest's survival.
Wasn't he promised the no1 spot before getting Covid - which meant De Gea started the season, then he had a mini renaissance and kept his spot? I don't think the situation was quite how he painted it in his interview the other week. But I do think he's missed his window of opportunity to become no1 at United and is best to move on at the end of this season (although there's no OTB in the Forest loan deal).

Horgan did nothing wrong but got "dropped"
If / when this bloke actually signs, can we close this one and start another? Should hit 1,000 posts by deadline day.
Sorry for raising my hand, ✋, but what was the question? I must have fallen asleep.

Maybe, given the pertinent comments by @bookertease above, we can keep the thread going whether he signs or not?
Football comment? Post in Football.
Non-Football comment? Post in Non- Football.
Philosophical and slightly satirical observations about both the meaning of life AND Bulgarian folk music? Post in Nathan Bishop Set To Sign.

@Chris you might be on to something here. All we need is Bishop's DNA and then we can grow our own Keeper!
Will any old Bishop do?
Didnt we do the Harold Bishop jokes back in the golden years of Nathan Bishop set to sign? Back in 2021 wasnt it?
This doesn't sound very convincing on the GK front to me. Three weeks. Tick-tock. https://twitter.com/wwfcofficial/status/1557636299850502144?t=R1OeAx45_D0-_fnQrXvWqA&s=19
We've won 2 and lost 1 (competitive games) and it's now 32 pages ..... YCMIU!
Even without the signing of Mawson (yeah!), how can this in anyway be construed as not convincing on the GK front.
GA is literally quotes as saying we want to bring in 1 or 2 more players!
He says he hopes. We need a bit more than hope! But these big signings often come in twos and threes, right...?
United have just agreed a season loan for someone, so we can still hope bishop will be ours soon.
I don’t think you announce another signing on the same day after Mawson, he’s clearly the headline act
Definitely.
You'd be one hell of a signing to not be massively overshadowed by that one!
You really have got it in for Gareth this season haven't you @ReturnToSenda has he run over your cat...just after pissing on @Wanderers82 's chips?
Yeah, we're signing De Gea
(lol, we have higher standards than that)
I haven't
If as somebody suggested earlier Heaton is out of favour, why not just go in for him? We do love an ex player.
The fact he's got a year left to run on his contract is probably a bit of an obstacle for starters! Is he out of favour anyway? He was on the bench v Brighton.
He ain't starting matches. I'd consider him dropped! Also, would you like to be a Man Utd player at the moment......?
Either way, not a snowball's chance in Milton Keynes he comes back to Wycombe this window
Well after Henderson's out-burst after signing on loan to Forest can only mean that he won't be playing for Utd again
Better late than never, I guess https://twitter.com/ianbakersport/status/1557725207749890048
