Have to be careful how you write ‘shed-loads’ @Croider. It took me a few moments to realise that you meant ‘plenty’ (rather than that we had shed (got rid of) plenty of quality up front). And I agree with @ReturnToSenda that you are seriously underestimating Bolton Wanderers. Their late season form was automatic level.
Think I’ll go against the grain a bit here and say I thought Jack Grimmer was excellent at centre-half today. In fact, I was much more impressed with him in that role than I have been before.
Good enough to be 3rd choice with Wakely as 4th choice? Not sure yet, but would be interesting to see him have a few games in the middle to see if we really do need to re-inforce.
I thought Grimmer’s defending was damn good today too. His passing was a bit rusty, but defensively he got very little wrong and was in conversation with Taff throughout the match which probably helped.
"Each Club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the fixture, plus an opportunity at half-time, and a Club may make more than the one substitution at each of these opportunities".
Best bit was outpacing their man to get to a ball near the away end, then somehow keeping the ball in at the touchline, for another player to be able to complete the move. Seamlessly keeping the ball.
It’s not very often that you get to enjoy watching your team completely outclassed their opponents, especially on the opening day of the season, and enjoy having the game won inside the opening half hour with some superb interplay and wonderful individual skill.
It can’t be very often that in such circumstances there are so many who are determined to look for negatives and find things to complain about.
Today was a real treat and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. That’s enough for me for today.
Part of me hope no-one make bet based on @Wanderers82 football knowledge. Today was on RC and GA. I hope the club and management keep rinsing us ST like this and showing us this level of disrespect every game.
is what I am saying wrong ?? its obvious we need a GK and CB , we got away with it today as Burton were poor . Stand by it that GA should of had a contingency plan
Not been home long and catching up with the comments. Professional job today, did what was needed, thought Wheeler and Grimmer worked well together on the right side of defence.
I understand football and agree on Bishop as never seen him play , hence my preference for Blackman . I challenge and not a sheep like someone like you , I give my honest constructive thoughts , we could have an amazing opportunity of promotion with a couple of signings, we are the most financially secure that we have ever been , we have one of the highest priced Season tickets and cab gvie my views when i want ....get back in your field and eat some grass...beh beh
I agree, considering it isn’t his specialist position I thought he defended really well. The other master stroke was playing Wheeler at RB, a position he has never played before in his career.
Grimmer, Dickinson, Wheeler and others playing above your expectation but as the manager said they would is not due to training hard and well at all?
A feature of the friendlies was hearing the manager and coaches constantly shouting positional info and encouragement. Some on here despite having talked of training ground ownership for years don't seem to realise we have one and use it.
The players converted into new positions, the formation chosen and the playing style again not accidents. Being better than the opposition the same. People saying we are lucky that the early fixtures are some of the weaker ones but not acknowledging that maybe having any bearing in hanging on for the players that we can't attract now but may come available soon.
He's mugged people off here today, spent sod all money yet again and delivered a famous win.
Yep, we might get battered next week, we have before but I've been watching with varying levels of interest for a couple of decades now and our previous managers didn't dig out players out of nowhere to get promotions in style with this frequency.

Every now and then everything is just perfect (obviously ignoring off-field fan experience).
And for those who don’t ‘get’ Dickinson being awarded MotM I shall raise a glass to the memory of your soul(s). I hope you got a good price
Agreed, I think Bolton away might be as tough as any game this season. A good test.
All three goals absolutely superb and better than I realised at the time: https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12662293/wycombe-3-0-burton-albion-league-one-highlights
If Mehmeti has taken another leap we are in for quite a season!

I must admit I did not think Grimmer was as worrying as I was expecting when I saw the team. Great day and a winning start.

No one else seems to have mentioned this yet, but didn't the new kits look great?
The 5 subs rule gave it a "friendly" like feel.
Could game lengths be increased? If teams make 5 individual subs each throughout the game, you surely lose at least 5 minutes?
Or is there a rule that you have to make a double sub?
You know what, I didn’t even notice
Five subs over a maximum of three stoppages including half time, I believe.
Think there can only be 3 substitute events per team (plus allowing subs at half time) so to use all 5 will normally require at least 1 double sub.
I've answered my own question...
"Each Club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the fixture, plus an opportunity at half-time, and a Club may make more than the one substitution at each of these opportunities".
I think you get three windows to make subs. I'm looking forward to the first quintuple substitution!
Kit looks great, new shirt font looks great, pitched looked great… what’s not to love eh!

can't make 5 individual subs , they have to be made with 3 sub events

He did, Tyla Dickinson.

Yes and everyone knows this - including the management team and club. Your "opinion" and anger is based on zero facts.
None of your comments are constructive or realistic. You just slag off the team you apparently support with zero facts to back the comments up.

What have you done with the real Che?
Jimmy Floyd just said none of the goals were special on ITV4, whereas I thought they all were.
Not only are the majority of your posts depressingly negative but when you are challenged you resort to childish personal insults.

It's funny what some people think is luck.
