Did you have to do the Hughenden run? That took in that awful drag up the back of the park, then the footpath through the woods off Green Hill on the way back.
Once did the Wycombe half marathon which started in the aforementioned Wycombe Abbey school grounds and proceeded up a very steep hill before the downhill stretch to Bourne End.
Fortunately not, our cross country run in those days used to take us up past Welsbourne school on the road then a giant loop though the fields and back via the road to the RGS. In comparison to what it could have been that's pretty much flat land.
My top 10 finish in that run in year 8 was my proudest sporting achievement. Luckily I wasn't drafted into the cross-country team - which was run by Mad Mr Marshall, idk if anyone on here got to experience him...
Quite a coincidence that the original Mr Wilson was IJW and the new one is also I Wilson!
Of the twelve still there from my time i think Mr Noyes is the only one that actually taught me. Mrs Booth somehow got me through my English GCSE, a real hero.
Sorry to butt in with that post. I’ve been hors de combat for a while. Hence the delayed comment.
I envy you proper Wycombe people. I’d love to be able to reminisce similarly with fellow Old Maidstonians but very few are still in the land of the living ! I and a good friend in Deal are now at the top of the second page of a 58 page register of nearly 3,000 OM Society members.
Does bring home the looming spectre of the grim reaper. Keep in touch with each other, you lot. Might be a case for pub get together. Bit tricky for @floyd, though.

Hatters Lane is savage - see also Hammersley

And then the walk *back up the hill* when the run was over.

DT teacher? He’s still there!
He's still there? He can't be!
He certainly is!
There are still two teachers there from when I was there and I left in 1993!
Yep, caught up with an RGS mate the other week and we were shocked to see he hadn't exploded with rage yet.
Miss Munday +1?
I left in 2003 and there are still 12 names i recognize. Plus a couple i went to school with.
Mr Noyes
Is Mr Wilson the other survivor from your time there?
No, he’s not there. There is a Mr Wilson, but not that one.
Mrs Bushell / Booth retired last year. Garth Ratcliffe still popped in as school Chaplain but he sadly died the year before last.
Ha, my head of sixth form
In fairness, my yr7 form tutor (Mr Balaam) was still there last I checked
.

I bet some of you had Mr Cowburn. He never taught me but was certainly a presence!
Cowburn was my head of year in year 8 and 9.
Here's another name: Tim Dingle...
Yeh, i'm genuinely sorry for people who never experienced David Levin.
Roy Page (Headmaster 2006-2015) joined the school, in 1972, while I was a pupil.
Mrs Bushell (or Miss Parsons as she was known to us Wellesbourne types before she sold out) has retired?!?!?
Of course she has but it’s stil a shock to hear that our coolest (although she did like Level 42) young teacher is about to pick up a state pension.
Wait, not Mrs Booth as in wife of Wycombe regular Mr Booth?
That really would call for a chairlift.

I tried to take a very short strava segment that looked hilarious slow.
Only to almost discombobulate and need a lie down
