I think if the rumour is true, you are very close, Shev. Would give a whole new meaning to the gasroom's former catchphrase "shimmering ape" I guess. Don't see it myself tbh.
So Gareth went for an interview at Malaga in April, at that stage they had no intention of keeping on the current manager. Gareth speaks Spanish and his wife's first language is Spanish. Wife and kids by all accounts wanted the move.
Having been in the Champions League QF's 11 years ago they had fallen down to the regional leagues and third tiers playing against teams like Melilla and Cueta from Africa and B teams of La Liga teams.
The club wanted to wait for the season to finish before appointing a new manager. Malaga had a strong end to the season and finished third and subsequently won the Playoffs on June 22nd to be promoted back to Segunda Division.
They have just given the current manager an extended contract for 2 years so Gaz is back to square one.
Gutted for Gareth - Malaga won the playoffs by scoring two goals in the second half of extra time (there are no penalties, so they would have gone out had they not owing to the other team having a better regular season record) including a last gasp goal. I can only imagine what GA would have felt watching that, given what @wwfcblue has told us above!
And I dare say one to add to Gaz's disappointment locker from the snippets we've pieced together with missing out on other jobs in the past.
A couple of thoughts, are would Dobbo have gone?
And do we start to get nervous for him now, as he'd surely want to be in somewhere now to bed in a pre-season, or you're always facing a bit of a disadvantage.
Flaming Norah. Just spotted that this thread had moved up into the live area and began reading lots of unfamiliar stuff, blissfully ignorant of the fact that I was reading posts from May. Twenty minutes I won’t get back.
But it’s an ill wind that blows no good. I learned things about GA and his family of which I was previously unaware.
It was a pretty sparse summer for jobs in the lower leagues this offseason anyway - Stevenage and Gillingham seemed the best shots, as so many clubs replaced their managers fairly late in the season.
GA may have to wait until the next firing cycle in October-ish time, and then he would have to be willing to take on a sinking ship, which is not what he is best suited to. To get the best launch, he really needs a summer to get his culture embedded as much as possible.
A bit of a rock and a hard place, then - I am expecting he would not want to wait another year!

If MON is really imminently to be installed at Rapid Bucharest, then anything is possible!
Hang on, is this a cryptic clue the same as the other week that never got answered
Yes, same poster too. Naughty, @wwfcblue, or should I say, Gareth?
He's going to Bayern
Harry Kane, the new Bayo !
GA does speak Spanish, so I am wondering if there is some kind of 2nd division opportunity there.
La posesión puede hacer una

Spinal Tap have reformed. Unconfirmed reports that Gaz will be the support act.
@wwfcblue - can you at least give us a colour? When an ITK is proved right it burnishes your reputation magnificently, you know!
I just googled, 'spanish football team shimmering ape.' I need to get a life.
Yeah come on @wwfcblue ! If this is right you'll never be doubted ever again
Here you go
Lots of Spanish speaking countries in the World.
Colo Colo it is, then.
It's obviously Deportivo Mongomo, reigning champions of Equatorial Guinea
Dragon are the current reigning champions. Current season does not seem to be over yet or is in dispute???
He could get Bayo out of retirement and go manage The Strongest in the Bolivian top flight too.
Wait - now I am hoping for Rayo Majadahonda in the Spanish 3rd tier, as that would be so fun to say.
Bayo Majadahonda
Sorry, that was BEQK
So Dobbo wouldn't go north of Watford Gap, but he's going to follow Gareth over to Equatorial Guinea?
No, he is going to manage the Kazakh academy in Aktobe.

Now that's some inside knowledge!

It would be great to have Dobbo back in some capacity. Great guy!

Unless it's us....
Yep, still within the first year is OK. But if it does creep towards 2 years then he could easily fall out of the merry go round.
He’d fall off it wouldn’t he @Malone ?
Did I ever mention my granddaughter and the tea cup roundabout in Swanage?
