I am sure our owners are wise enough to have worked out exactly how much we can spend within the EFL rules, but there’s always someone who wants to rain on the parade.
I reckon we're one more CB short of a complete squad - although even that's probably not essential, I'd like to see us bring in another versatile midfielder or two for the devs. Perhaps another GK too, although we've always got the emergency loan option.
This is easily the best transfer window business since the season JJ joined us all those years ago. Very exciting and with a real good blend of experience and youth.
If the football gods look down on us kindly and we don’t have too many major injuries, then I really feel Matt now has the players to push for a top six spot.
Hmm I distinctly remember you pouring scorn on the idea of signing a new striker in the Championship January transfer window, saying that it would be deeply irresponsible to threaten the club's future by spending money that might be needed on a rainy day in seasons to come.
I do sometimes wonder if your only actual principle is to back whatever the club is currently saying/doing at all costs, never mind if it means you're completely changing your tune in the process.
We make some great signings. Probably the best group for a very long time and still we have the doom and gloom merchants moaning. Let’s just enjoy the moment,
Have a day off Alan. You could have just glossed over the comment but instead you’re doubling down.
People can be happy about the signings and also want to make sure we’re not heading down a financial hole while we do so.
Incidentally, What are your views in Derby County’s supporters lauding the over spending by Mel Morris when they were trying to spend there way to the promised land of the next league above - where everything becomes easier to make a profit (sound familiar?) - and not even making a cautionary comment on what happens when or if the money runs out?
I think the point is that we should just enjoy the moment. Yes we all want our club to maintain good financial practices but this really is a moment to savour.
Also, the club will be much easier for Rob to sell if we are challenging for promotion as opposed to fighting relegation. I still think we will have new owners by Christmas.
Credit to all concerned for their patience and perseverance over the summer. A few short weeks ago, it was looking increasingly likely from outside that we would be operating on a much thinner squad than in recent seasons, but the signings appear to be ideally balanced and should add to what was a good, solid spine when (if) all fit.
It should certainly be interesting this season and I am considerably more optimistic than I was (which in my world basically means we may finish as high as mid-table!).
I would imagine it will take a little while for the team to gel and it will be a real test of MBs experience and capabilities as a manager, but at least it looks likes he has been given the support from RC and co. to develop a team to his ideas and I am probably more excited and intrigued a week or so before the season starts than I have been for many a year.
(Oh and it is perfectly legitimate to voice concerns about whether there is a risk to the future of the club by all these positive acquisitions. We would be hypocritical in the extreme not to do so).
We are all excited, I'm like a kid in a sweet shop.
But we must temper this with the horrors of what happened the last time someone said "don't worry". You have already said yourself in previous posts we were 90 minutes away from not having a club.
The month of July is when 80% of the money is allocated for the season, when we get excited about who we've signed or not and also the very right time to question what looks like a very large spend for what we turnover.
It's easy to imagine someone buying a Porsche who would be both excited to drive their new car, but also concerned about how they were going to afford the loan repayments.
So. I’m confused. How many players did we let go and how many new players have we signed. Interesting day tomorrow to try to recognise all the new faces.

Amazing!!!
I can do both

Brilliant stuff Matt and team!!!!!!
It's not the EFL rules we have to worry about, it's whether the levels of spending are sustainable and good for the long-term future of the club.

Now if only we could sign this guy up for the drums ...

Absolutely extraordinary stuff
Nah, nasty little tory.
To be fair to him, he now claims to have been stitched up by the Sun and that he isn't a Tory. The Sun part I can definitely believe.
Good point, and P**rs M*rgan at that.
What does his political views have to do with drumming ability?

“Wycombe Wanderers calling. Wycombe Wanderers calling…”

Can you be excited about the new player, worry about the finances to pay for it all and think we need another one? 😉
(Just joshing @ReturnToSenda )

I'm thrilled about the signing(s)
I'm a strong advocate of financial responsibility.
I like a broad selection of cheeses.
Many thoughts, none are exclusive to each other.
I want to see them all on the pitch at once. Let's do an 8-8-4 and hope no-one notices.
Perfectly valid to be concerned about spending while enjoying the anticipation of the new signings on the pitch.
Odd though for it to be raised after signing a Kid on loan
I also enjoy the occasional platter of cheese and the introduction of a new cheese is a thrill although I am concerned about the cholesterol.
Yes, this is the thing I'm scratching my head about.
We haven't gone out and signed a string of 25 year old championship starters ?
So. I’m confused. How many players did we let go and how many new players have we signed. Interesting day tomorrow to try to recognise all the new faces.
MB's first full season, JJ's testimonial season, loads of exciting new players AND the possible threat of total financial meltdown?
League One here we come....!
And a possible new owner!
There's a small part of me wonders if this is the reason we are pushing the boat out so to speak, is there someone already around/involved ?
