Massive shoes to fill in both senses of the phrase.... This is now going to be a real test on who comes in and ensuring the right characters continue to develop and enhance our position in the league table.
I wonder if the recruitment will consider those who are FA Cup - tied ahead of our game against Portsmouth or if they will just focus on the league. I'd hate to see us play Portsmouth with a really weakened team as I think the next round is there for the taking and could give us a chance to get more notice. It'll also be great to see where we are now and what we (might) need to do to prepare for life in the Championship next season
We’ve been linked with Jellis in the past. Pretty sure he played non-league in the local area. Might even have trialled for us a few times. Wonder if we’re one of the L1 clubs that have bid for him.
Seriously? If anything, the game against Portsmouth should be one of our most important games of the season. It comes at a point in time where we are seriously looking at promotion through the automatic spots and it'll be a good benchmark to go to Rice etc and say, we can compete in these positions but are weak in these and target those to replace and/or enforce.
If we don't treat the game seriously, we could go into next season already at a disadvantage!
Totally agree and I think Dan and Matt will already be using this transfer window to get us along the tracks of being Championship ready. The Portsmouth game comes at a time where it is, dare I say, a distraction we really don’t need. I love the FA cup history and our very own history in the competition but I have to agree with @flymofrank , that we will play a weakened team, as will Pompey.
The Portsmouth game is huge as far as I'm concerned. That said, the timing of it is awful from our viewpoint, coming just a few days after a crucial league game against Huddersfield. I'm sure it will be a heavily rotated side, similar to what we saw against York and Wealdstone and you can't really blame Blooms for that. I'm just hoping that Pompey field an equally rotated side, which will still give us a chance to progress.
Would love to see Sadlier and Vokes back for that one. Despite our form, we've still missed these 2 in my opinion.
The Portsmouth game is not huge at all in my opinion. Our biggest game of the season is home to Huddersfield on Tuesday 7th. We will make nine or more changes for Portsmouth on Friday 10th. There’s no other way it’s feasible. That game will be our eleventh game in six weeks. Blooms has nearly fully rotated for every single cup game so far and I’m sure he will again for Pompey home because he has no other choice. The fixture congestion is too brutal and the Huddersfield game has to take priority. Pompey will be in the same position, prioritising their Championship safety and equally suffering with fixture congestion.
All due respect, do one with that comment. I am and always have followed Wycombe and would not base our success on recruitment on just one game against Portsmouth. I would however, use it as a chance to evaluate our squad and give us a fair idea where we will need to look in the current and next transfer window to improve & be competitive in the league above us.
Even if we do play a heavily rotated team, like Portsmouth might do, it'll still highlight which players might or might not be part of the squad next season at the next level.
Known the player for many years as my son used to play in the same league as him as a boy.Was a talented player at an early stage but temperament was an issue. Was with Leicester for a while having trials etc and then dropped into non league and then burst onto the scene with Tamworth before Walsall.
You tell me? Just because my view is different from you, there is no need to be belittle people if they don't share the same view as yours. Everyone on this forum should be allowed to air their views respectfully and should be treated as such. You know your comment was only written to get a reaction and to belittle the view that was against yours
It's an important game to win for that dream of getting a plum draw, or a long cup run that is in the memory for years. Not to mention some unbudgeted income. We might have a rich owner, but nothing yet suggests we're dollar dollar.
Like others said, maybe not that important for reasons of can we compete etc.
Portsmouth will be saying exactly the same thing about next weeks game as they could get relegated. They also have two very long away days either side of our game totalling well over a 1000 miles.
Both teams will have many changes I just hope our second string is better than Portsmouths.

Agreed. A real test for the management team now but I believe they would have planned for these eventualities. 👍
A real shame to lose Taylor, but not unexpected. Hopefully one of the several replacements we’ve been linked with will be up to the task.
Taylor going means that it is imperative to keep Joe Low at the club beyond this January. Get a new contract in front of that man asap.
Lloyd Jones would be nice

Played for both Aylesbury FC and Aylesbury United.
Hopefully they will put total focus on the League. The Cup is unimportant this season.
I wonder if one of my current team mates played with him. I’ll try and get some info.
(And Hemel Hempstead, and Tring, and Kings Langley)

It'll be a game between two heavily rotated teams - it won't tell us anything about our ability to compete with Championship opposition

I hope our recruitment approach is a bit more thorough than 'let's see how they got against Pompey in a one-off cup game'!

Here are CBs who have recently played a half season for us:
At that rate of improvement, I am expecting a high speed octopus who is allowed to tackle with four of it's tentacles.
We’re not going to win the FA Cup but we’ve got a real chance of winning promotion.
According to my football manager save, it's actually very easy to win the FA Cup and league one at the same time

I really hope we can hang on to Joe Low, near-future captain material for me and pretty close in standard to Alfie.
No need to snap now is there 😊
You all know it's the year no-one cares about winning the cup that we win it, right?
No need for the comment either, was there?
Did I say something offensive?
If we are going all out for the promised land, is it better to be an academy with a team attached in the Championship than in League One?
I'm greedy. I would quite like another round of the Cup as well.

I think you're right, but for the wrong reason.
