Lonwijk has not had many minutes this season, unless the injuries dictate I would be surprised if he is ready to play.
For me Wheeler is a great player for us but for whatever reason he has not been as effective in the middle with Potts and neither of their games have been brilliant together. Sometimes partnerships don't work. I would have Butcher and Potts in the middle. The conundrum then is do we bring in Early to left back and move Leahy into the midfield. If we do that Sadlier then is probably dropped. Which is an error. And we will also see how much there is in the Campbell playing guarantee. He's not earned a start when others have. The window has left us with a wealth of talent in certain roles so I hope we have recruited a team not just good players.
You have nothing to feel guilty about part of the reason for a forum is to give people an outlet for their concerns as long as they do it in a reasonable manner.
I would love nothing more than for Matt to prove me wrong and he’s made a good start with a promising transfer window and the BSM trophy win.
Here’s to a comfortable win today and humble pie for my Sunday lunch which I will eat with relish.
It looks like Butcher is left footed too which if anything makes the midfield conundrum even harder to work out as Potts in the middle with two left footers on the right and left of a middle three is a bit unusual.
Surely a good window is one where we sign players that people have heard of and would seem to fit in.By the same token we've had 'what no new players????' 'Who's that???' Windows that have turned out okay.
A good window would be one that turns our form around. Whether that’s from exiting players, or bringing players in.
Dont get me wrong, I am indeed excited and hopeful that those brought in in the last month will see us winning again. But I have also watched enough football to know that each one of those signings will be questioned if we don’t see a turn around in form.
And there are others who won’t wait 5 to 10 games I will and will write them all off if we lose this afternoon.
“We all seem to expect Southwood will move on, but GK no.1 spots are notoriously difficult to find - there are only 92 in the Football League, after all. Any rumours out there about where he might go? Any Championship or League One clubs need a keeper? Is he better than what they've already got or could get? Or will he settle for being a number 2 in the Championship?”
“I'm not suggesting its reliable whatsoever but someone mentioned to me a few weeks back that he may end up at Wycombe in the summer. It works location wise and they can offer better wages.”
Interesting. I couldn’t care less about that Stryjek error. I’d much rather judge him on the majority of the 50+ other games where he’s been largely excellent. I’d be very disappointed if he was let go.
Goalkeeping is very much "what have you done for me lately" and in this case, I think Max is unfortunate - after being Player's Player of the Season (which speaks to his popularity as well as quality, I should think), he gets stuck behind a frankly disastrous 5ATB experiment and loses his job over a harsh red card.
Max is still the goalie from last year, and I think it would be a huge misstep to move on and have to gel a new goalie all over again.
I think someone (probably @aloysius?) said at the time that maybe the reason the red card wasn’t rescinded is because we didn’t appeal... because it gave us an opportunity to play Ravizolli. At the time I thought this sounded a little too tin foil hat but I’ve come round to thinking it might be a real possibility.
I’d be surprised if Stryjek plays for Wycombe again, which is a real shame.
That is a great shame. The only reason I can think of is that Blooms is taking every opportunity to get his own players in and gradually cycle GA players out, as it makes no sense to get rid of Max otherwise. I was annoyed at him over the drop, but that is not a reason to get rid of him!
Sorry but Max is not good enough. He wasn’t good enough last year (his distribution was shocking) despite an award. And he’s not been even close to the average standards of last season either. A new No. 1 an absolute priority as Ravizolli also not close to the required standard I’m afraid.
I am terrified we are going to get a keeper who can play perfect flicks downfield but can't save a shot for the life of him, because of all this 'careful what you wish for' karma.
I made a point of watching the body language of Max from my vantage point at Wembley. He acted totally disinterested, didn’t engage with fellow subs, actively avoided at times. He is gone 100%. Disappointing end but not the end of the world.
Good insight, and interesting (but sad) to read. I guess we never know what goes on behind closed doors, but I really thought Stryjek was going to be a cult hero. As long as we get someone better, the world keeps turning and all that.

Have you missed Wheels?
Yes, Wheeler onto the bench in place of either Earley/Lonwijk to give a midfield option.
Still leaves 5 players out of the squad so assuming we have 1 or 2 undisclosed injuries a few tough choices.

Tbh, Matt doesn't have anywhere to hide now, he's been backed, got the players he wants, it's now down to him to deliver. It's all on him now.
I think he should've gone, but he's here and I want him to succeed as I don't want relegation.
No pressure.
Nah, Trevor is glasshalffull's venting second account.
I expect more for the first part, as can't imagine many disagree with the second part!
My starting 11 would be;-
Max
Grimmer, Taf, Low, Early
Butcher, Potts, Leahy
Taylor, Kone, Sadlier
I would definitely have Wheels on the bench.
I agree, the Couhigs have shown admirable loyalty it has to pay off.
I do like the players we’ve signed though.
what is the obsession with Taylor? he can only score or play well against u21 sides....bring in Kone
I don’t understand my own post !
Reckin I must have meant thumbs down.
Agree with your comment @Malone on that basis.

Butcher has played all across the midfield and is comfortable either side or centrally.

Restarting the rumour mill early, but this is from Cheltenham’s forum re. their goalie:

Would snap both your hands off for Luke Southwood
Crazy to think that not so long ago Max was irreplaceable. Personally I’m still angry at his attempted cheating antics v Barnsley.

We've come a long way since the non-loan of the keeper from Man Utd

Southwood saved two penalties against us this season. A very good goalkeeper.
Yes, I'm not terrified of getting him specifically - just a keeper who has amazing distribution but hands like those pinball flippers.
