I agree with all that you've said....apart from the fact that I think the reason you clicked is because we invite you to do so. We allowed you to play and that is why I think fans are so frustrated. Ainsworth's mantra from the start was press, get in their faces, work hard to win the ball back. Now we seem to be in retreat when a goal up!
Beginning to wonder what point there is playing other teams. For some on this forum the result and the performance of our team has nothing to do with the opposition. They just turn up with no influence over anything.
Have to say that 45 mins in the second half from Derby was the best League 1 performance I’ve seen since Peterborough had Ivan Toney and co come down to Adams Park. Derby were electric in that second half.
Derby are able to acquire players like Hourihane, scorer of their two goals, who was signed by Aston Villa for a reported fee of over £3m on an annual salary of £1.5m. It’s a world away from where we stand in the football hierarchy.
Based on their recent financial position it's got nothing to do with hierarchy. It's simply who much you want to push the envelope of overspending without caring about the consequences.
One of the interesting (aka frustrating) things about us this season is that we can go from playing like promotion certainties to looking like relegation strugglers (occasionally in the same game).
We have played some of the best football I’ve seen us play for ages at times this season (1st half Charlton, 2nd half Barnsley for example) but also some of the worst and most disjointed (Exeter, Bolton).
On paper we have a very strong spine through the team but the injuries and disrupted start caused by the Bishop saga and GMac sending off have, I think, contributed to a lack of cohesion in the team.
I actually think we won’t be ourselves until after the World Cup is out the way. I have the feeling that our usual Christmas and New Year slump may not happen this season. If we are closer to the playoffs than the relegation zone at the start of December I think we will be well placed for challenging in the second half of the season (although we may need better luck with injuries to succeed)
We are able to acquire Alfie Mawson who was signed by Fulham for £20m on an annual salary of £1.6m and Sam Vokes who cost Stoke £7m on an annual salary of £1.7m!
not sure he would leave to go there., done an amazing job for us but feel he has.little adaptability and.is clock work with subs , do not think he is tactically strong enough to manage consistently higher than league 1
Great post! I was thinking something similar about us having a purple patch. For some reason I have been thinking we are going to seem like we are cut adrift and then from sometime in November we are going to play with our hair on fire.
I agree he would not go. I have a lot of time for Rotherham (despite their phlegmatic, sometimes whiny fans) but they are a slightly bigger northern version of us in many ways. I think if GA was to leave his beloved Wycombe willingly for the Champo it would be to a club with clear PL aspirations.
Surely there is no chance he would go to Rotherham, a slightly bigger club with average attendance of somewhere between 8,000-10,000 since they’ve played at New York Stadium.
On the flip side though, Rotherham are well on the way to survival in the Championship and their chairman has previously stated he'll unlock further investment if they establish themselves in the second tier. It's also the one club which is the perfect match for Ainsworth's style of play - something other higher level clubs/fans have been sniffy about in the past.
I've just finished the BBC Sport Moment of Truth podcast and spent most of it thinking what a perfect fit Warne would be for us if GA ever left. I suppose the same equation works the other way.
The Rotherham switch makes sense to me, if it materialises. Gareth gets a second stab at the Championship, gets to play the underdog once more at a no-nonsense team of battlers (who have the ability to reel teams in and then surprise with a burst of unexpected silky culture) that suits his personality and style of management.
He will also be alive to the fact that if we finish mid table in League One his star will be on the wane. We may not think it's fair but that's the way football works - he'll be pigeonholed as a one-club manager who has shot his shot at the Championship in a world where chairmen tend to look for the bright, new exciting things with fresh ways of thinking.
There is also the slight unknown factor of Rob Couhig who's said he wants automatic promotion and isn't afraid to hold the manager responsible for on-pitch failure. That will surely prey on Gareth's mind slightly. A chance to get out now and not test whether it's just more empty rhetoric from Mr Couhig could prove appealing.
I really do enjoy that, depending on the circumstances, RC’s automatic promotion aim is either a cynical ploy to sell more season tickets or a non-negotiable that will cost GA his job.

Excellent summary, shame it takes a fan of another club to question the negativity.

Got to wonder why they bother really.

That is what I saw but others just saw Wycombe let them. These pesky opposition sides bringing their own good players and their tactics to beat us.

And I see that Derby have promptly relieved Liam Rosenior of his management duties. Strange!
Well they won their cup final - maybe they wanted to give someone else a chance.
For one hilarious moment I thought you were suggesting Mawson was on 30k a week with us.
Of course, when we signed Mawson, his salary was 0.
And when we signed Vokes, he'd just trousered a huge payoff.
We're relying on these sorts of wheeler dealering, whereas Derby don't seem to, despite their recent mess.
Who would you rather have though, Hourihane or Vokes?
I think the only acceptable answer to this is "in our system, obviously Vokes"
Will Trouser McTrouserson be returning to the Gasroom soon?

Wind up the rumour mill!

I’m sure you will agree that very different circumstances dictated how these signings were made.
On the Gasroom you can never be sure if folk are going to agree with you or not. Well in most cases that is…..

Would be an odd move.
Yo-yo championship club, massive distance away from home.

Needed a chuckle this morning. Thanks.

@aloysius You really made me chuckle as well on this. You’ve picked at a seam on a sleeve of a coat and totally destroyed it.
If I understood that, I’ve a suspicion that I might agree. But I don’t.
