The thing is, if a deal with Bishop has been agreed, why couldn't they just announce it ? All they need to say is " a deal with Man Utds Bishop has been agreed, and the player will join us when he returns from Utds pre season tour" ... done, sorted, everyone can stop guessing and panicking !
Maybe Gaz shouldn't have suggested it was imminent a couple of weeks ago. I mean, it might well have been, but it does spark PANIC if it doesn't go quite according to plan. I am a bit worried.
What if Bishop suffered a bad injury in America? Surely even a loan deal has to have a medical which can only happen AFTER he has played his last game for United.
And if he randomly ends up playing due to injuries and impresses maybe they'll have another choice to make. Doesn't benefit Utd one bit to announce something just to pacify our Twitter followers.
@mooneyman Exactly my thoughts. Be daft to announce whilst he still has games to play for Man Utd. GA suggested in the post match interview today, that the goalkeeper situation is all in hand and nothing to worry about. I'm happy to go along with that, although it is a slight concern he could get injured, but if that were to happen, better now than when he's already signed.
Gaz will have a list of keepers on his list - he has plenty of contacts. Lee has plenty of contacts. We will be fine.
There is only one GK position out of 11, unless you include David James going up top of course, and most top flight teams will have 5, 6 and maybe 7 keepers on their books. There will be plenty to choose from.
I’m not sure panic is the word but Ainsworth was very bullish in his interview with Phil C and said they were imminent and would signal our intent this year. Perhaps he spoke a bit prematurely and has taken longer across the line. Certainly would be good to get a couple before the first league game.
Gk is probably the one position you don’t have to panic about. It seems perfectly possible to call up a 7th choice Premier league GK earning more that the rest of our squad put together at 5.45 on a Friday afternoon and have them in between the stick for 3.00 the next afternoon.
and for those of us old enough to remember there is nothing quite like the combined mixture of humour and dread at turning up to the ground and hearing the announcement that your CB or midfielder will be playing in goal that afternoon.
Football can be too serious at times. It would be good just once…
If they were the two, I think most people would be very happy. Being totally greedy, another centre forward would be the icing on the cake. With those onboard, automatic would be a possibility.
Dave Bullock is the other one I remember. Twice I think. Certainly once at home as I can remember hearing it on the tannoy when I was queuing up to get into Loakes Park for what I remember was a fairly key game? I think he let 1 in.
the other less certain memory was somewhere like Walthamstow?
I remember winning 3-2 in a crucial derby game at Wexham park in 82-83, Slough had an outfield player in goal for the whole game, he was only about 5ft 7".Anton powered the winner from a corner that went straight through his hands.
Full back Dave Yerby. First choice keeper Frank Parsons was injured, reserve Bob Randall was picked but, shortly before kick-off, Slough manager Terry Reardon discovered he had never actually signed on, so Yerby was handed the gloves.
It seems surprising that United would think a glamour tour to Australia rubbing shoulders with big name prem players is better for his development then letting him get a couple of weeks of training in with us!
Just to add that KaiKai was also injuried (twisted knee / ankle) during the Oxford City friendly and its likely that he'll miss the first few games of the season
I also dislike Alan Green when he does the commentary for 5-Live. He keeps going on a rant about referees or managers and forgets about the game. There was a time last season he was ranting away and 5 mins of the game had passed before he brought himself back to focusing on the game

Alternatively, everyone could just stop panicking anyway. We're not going to start the season without a goalie.

Pretty strong Watford squad to be fair

Or maybe GA is secretly trolling the gasroom and has deliberately sent us into a tizzy.
The closed season must be pretty boring for the coaching staff with no players around - they have to get their laughs somewhere.
I would like to think that is the case @Twizz

Bishop and Mawson.
Get those 2 on board, and the latter be fit for most games, and we've got a hell of a lineup.

Rambo Bressington and Farnboro springs to mind.
He kept a clean sheet though.

Cue United’s huge fan base shouting why the f**k have we taken him on tour if he is off to Wycombe?!

Sulley can’t seem to catch a break, hope he gets a decent opportunity when fit as he looked positive whenever he played last year
Did they ever announce if tickets are available for Saturday's game in Southampton?
FFS that’s unlucky. I have such high hopes for him this season
FFS why is Pearce still allowed anywhere near a commentary microphone?
I liked him as the Robot Wars commentator (Christ, that makes me sound old!)

Bloody hell, didn't realise Green was still going
