The big man Andy Carroll is in our mould but probably not within our wage budget!
Think Reading currently have him on something like 1k a week!
How many zeros did you miss off the end there?
Did you miss the stories saying he's on an almost "unbelievable" low wage there on a short term deal? Plus the fact Reading can't renew contracts let alone whop big new ones out.
I did miss that but doesn't that make it more plausible that he could be who we are after? Ex England international could be the type of player we haven't been able to go for before re Gareth's clue . I'm guna stick my neck out and say we're after the pony tail boy wonder!
I've not seen or heard an interview with him in the last 4 + years, but the last time I did he still seemed like a cockwomble so I still wouldn't want him signed particularly. A decade is a long time for someone to grow up and change though
Andy Carroll has not exactly set the world alight since he left Newcastle has he? Temperament aside, surely GA and Dobbo look for quality players with something to prove.
And yes, I realise I have become involved in a discussion about the rights and wrongs of signing a player there is no indication we had any intention of signing any road!
Jermaine is probably reminiscing fondly about that game in 2000. I don't think I've ever seen a single player look so utterly beyond the other 21 on view.
Centre half is a priority. Agree that in Stewart and Tafazoli we have 2 very good first choices and in Forino a very worthy apprentice but if on 1st February someone gets injured out of those three we are looking at Grimmer, McCarthy or JJ at centre back and I would prefer an orthodox player rather than a makeshift stand in.
I just hope this isn't a Deadline day panic signing. Why don't clubs confirm a signing in Nov or Dec so that everyone knows who's coming in and what they have rather than getting this rushed and over the line in the last minute?

I think it was reported that Liam Moore recently purchased a house in Leicester which would suggest he’ll end up back up that neck of the woods?
Liam Moore was club captain and is the top earner at Reading, circa 35K a week. He’s just 28. No chance!
Depends - Vokes will have been on a fair whack at Stoke, but the must have paid him off

Lee Hodges or Chris Greenacre
Let’s hope so anyway.
Surely we don't want Andy Carroll?

Don't want that violent turd anywhere near our club. He won't pass the GA & RD background checks.
I had a violent turd last weekend. The curry was good, though.
Both of those are from over a decade ago....
If they were recent I'd be inclined to agree
I'm with @frequentstander - Carroll is Hylton level grim.
But yes, we wouldn't touch him with a bargepole. I think those incidents just get overlooked somewhat cause he's a bit of a meme.

He was 21 when he violently assaulted his then-girlfriend....
Are you really excusing it?
Let’s get back to Alfie Mawson. What a great addition that would be.

Defoe rumour circulating now.
Between us and Oxford.
Why would anyone join Oxford?

Someone he's never been able to sign before..... Payne at Swindon?

Not excusing him at all, but also not expecting that to be a footballing life sentence.
From that article it sounds like even she's forgiven him...
There was a rumour a little while ago
I suppose there are a lot of players that we have never been able to sign before.
I am starting to think that we were actually in for Connor Wickham but he went to MK instead.
I think I've missed this but where did GA come out and say that we could go and buy a player(s)? Is it in an interview or article?
A win for nominative determinism, but we don't need any more strikers!

On what basis? That his name is Wickham?
6:40 into this interview with GA @Otter87
