I completely agree with what's been said and it's disappointing that FIFA haven't had the nerve to strip Qatar from hosting the World Cup even though its been proven that the bid was won through fraud. (Altho that would mean having to pay back the money!)
However, does this not play into the hands of League 1 & 2 clubs? With no football for 6-8 weeks, would these clubs not be expected larger crowds from those Prem fans who are missing their "escape from the wife / Family / life" time?
I thought that League 1 and League 2 clubs wouldn't be affected by the World Cup as they will have FA Cup and Pizza trophy fixtures to complete and they would be able to complete their fixtures?
I'm so weak, I want to ignore it, but I know it'll be an excuse to go out and meet friends and family and have a beer or 2... especially at that time of the year that I'd normally be happy to hibernate
Just to add I'm not sticking up for them ! It's completely wrong and should've been taken off them and being played right now !
The target of their statements now includes the local MP, the FA and the league.
Also quite interesting to read that they no longer own one of the penalty areas of their ground! I hope they end up in the hands of someone who is better equipped to run a football club and I hope that they one day get to return to Wheatsheaf Park.
That’s an extraordinary state of affairs, @Gary . You certainly couldn’t make it up. I had to check that it wasn’t April the first. And the fact that the penalty area belongs legally to a local resident is pure Monty Sunshine. Sorry, Monty Python.
Whoever wrote that isn't a happy bunny naming and shaming plenty of people.
Don't quite understand how the current owners didn't uncover the fact they the penalty area was owned by a third party before buying the club.
Surely Land Registry documents would show that? I wonder just what the third party's relationship is to the other individuals/Downing LLC clearly identified?
"There definitely will be no one-night stands at this tournament. There will be no partying at all really.
The jokes will be about the first sentence but look at that second one, after all that has gone on and the immense expense for anyone who oddly still wants to go. (*Due to it being in middle of nowhere with insufficient flights and hotels rather than just distance)
Suppose it's appropriate that it's run as a big memorial event.
Premier League already complaining about the number of games between the start of the season and the November cut-off. Could be most of the Home squads will be crocked or exhausted either before the tournament starts or afterwards. Do we still think footballing authorities really have the good of the game at the forefront of their minds?

Yeah ridiculous really
It was amazing to go to Molineux yesterday. Chatting to local people about football. United against Twitter commentators who have no idea.
I've been around the World and I can assure you that England fans are the most knowledgeable, kind and the greatest in humanity.
Seeing the PL fixtures this morning with a big gap on them has just reinforced what a ridiculous season it's going to be

Every cloud and all that
Only if clubs can arrange matches outside the World Cup games. With three games a day every day for the first couple of weeks.

Depends if it clashes with England, although personally I wouldn't need to think twice about picking Wycombe if it came to that
I know me not watching the screen for the whole tournament is a very soft protest but l am ignoring the WC this time around.
Wasps still parasites I see https://twitter.com/BBCCWR/status/1537449961863905281?t=mz7qvYiF5gCMKkaeE7L6dg&s=19

Only possible clash with Eng game I think is first Sat in Dec if we come 2nd in the group
No club in their right mind would have a game that clashed with an England game in the world cup.
They'd bring forward the kick off and then tell fans to stick around and watch England afterwards
Such a historic ground. Nice to see the subway has been spruced up and branded cheerfully as well!
Some very good points on the increase to 5 subs (obvs we got a glimpse of it in 2020, but it's going to be interesting to see how it alters the game in the longer term) https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2022/jun/18/substitutes-jack-grealish-england-manchester-city-rule-changes
For those who have been following the Staines Town saga, it’s taken another interesting turn.

I was totally following until he started talking about the 'rings of uranus'

I wonder if any of the England squad will actually make it home after the tournament.
Or @LX1 for that matter.

Rotherham have just lost two of their best players - Michaels Smith and Ihiekwe - to Sheff Wed. Wow.
Perhaps The Owls are the ones to watch this season.
Clearly everyone wants to experience all their fans using the lights on their mobiles like Stockers mentioned in his interview.
Unless they get off to a complete owler
And their accounts the following season
