Thanks @railwaysteve for the updates, I hope you are on the mend?
If you have got my next game prediction correct at 11 away then i think you should win the title by default!!! Fingers crossed!
@eric_plant does retain the leadership, very fine margins between the top two. Congratulations to him. @DevC makes it to the top ten with the **closest of the season so far ** prediciton this week - moving up 4 places in the table. @JohnBoy was another big climber with a close Portsmouth game score. @Twizz and myself completed the quartet which set a new personal best for the season.

The 8th best forecasts were included in the score average this week and the 9th will be included next week after the 18th game. Once we reach the 20th game it will be the best 10 that count to the end of the season.
I should be updating rapidly now - this is the first of the three "Seven Points in Eight Days" Games.
Thank you all for your patience and support and a special public thanks to @railwaybeth who managed the end of game updates with more style than I do.
The intention is to do updates to the Tour de Season Table at this time - 6pm tomorrow - for the Plymouth game, and same time - 6pm Wednesday - for the Wednesday game.
Leaderboard after the Bolton Home Game
Many congratulations to the new leader @wwfcblue - top of the league is a good place to be. The margins are very tight between the top three and this was the first time the ninth best prediction came into play so there were alterations above and beyond those caused by the individual scores in the Bolton game.
Congratulations also to @a40 and to @Forest_Blue who both moved up exactly five places in the table with solid predictions.
A special mention for @robin who was the only one of us to record a new presonal best with the Bolton game. He is within easy reach of the sub 200 averages where the table tightens up.
A note of encouragement to @bigred87, @Wendoverman and myself who have been second short sighted so far. The game stablises soon with it being the top ten predictions which count every week and there are no further increases in the number that count. A sub 100 score for that average is easily acheivable.

Nine best predictions count for the Plymouth game - Leaderboard up tomorrow.
Ten best predictions count for the Sheffield Wednesday game - Leaderboard up Wednesday.
Occassional Predictors - new table for you on the third day!
Belated Post No 2 - Update after the Plymouth Game
This is the second of the three "Seven Points in Eight Days" Games, the one when we all underestimated the enthusiam in Devon for watching Wycombe. You might remember there were no double digit scores.
The intention is to do the last overdue update to the Tour de Season Table at this time - 6pm Wednesday - for the Sheffield Wednesday game.
Leaderboard after the Plymouth Away Game
Just the one change in leaderboard positions - we were mostly miles out with this game - although we were much closer to the actual attendance at 80 mins into the game than might be expected once the first thousand Plymouth supporters had left.
Many congratuations however are due to @Manboobs who actually had the closest prediction of the day - he said 12602 and the official attendance was 12833. That score of 231 takes up a creditable position as his 6th best prediction of the season so far and pulls his average up by close to 11, so lifting him one position.
@peterparrotface was the only other person to register a 'Scoring' score, improving his 9th best prediction.
Ten best predictions count for the Sheffield Wednesday game - Leaderboard up Wednesday. The additional prediction counting usually shakes the mix a little, and although the crowd was bigger there were closer predictions than there were for the Plymouth game, so I predict more changes tomorrow.
Occassional Predictors - new table for you too tomorrow.
Belated Post No 3 - Update after the Sheffield Wednesday Game
This is the final one of the three "Seven Points in Eight Days" Games, and this brings this thread up to date.
Leaderboard after the Sheffield Wednesday Away Game
Congratuations to @Erroll_Sims who was almost within 0.1% of the actual crowd, missing by just 25 with a crowd of 20761. Translate that level of accuracy to the Fleetwood away game and you are only missing by two or three.
That close prediction takes him up five places up in the table and close to the leading three, they swop places as they sometimes do because a) this is such a good competition and b) the 10th best scores counted towards the average for the first time this week.
Many congratulations to @our_frank who is back at the top of the table. It continues to be tight - in football terms you might say that only a point separates the top three and @eric_plant and @wwfcblue are only separated by goal difference.
The average of your ten best predictions count for this game and continue to do so until the end of the season. The competition might become a be a bit more stable and it certainly should be easier to see what is going on. Every game, the Leaderboard will show everyone's 10th best matchday score as well as the overall average score which determines the position in the table.
You can tell how far a perfect 'spot on' match day score could take you in the table by dividing your 10th best matchday score by 10 and subtracting that from your overall score. If anyone wants a more detailed explanation of how that works, please ask.
As it stands at the moment there are only '3 points' between the top five, but @HCblue in 9th could just take the lead if everything goes right, because his 10th best matchday score gives more opportunity to improve. Bit like a game in hand.
I ran a bit behind time today. @railwaybeth and I did some cross checks on the Sheff Weds game data before making this post - we think we might on one occasion both tried to have change the spreadsheet at the same time. This stuff is definitely all good!
It might mean that I catch of the status of the occasional predictors tomorrow.
Next Threads:
Burton at home on Tuesday night - intend to have the thread up tomorrow.
Wimbledon at home on Sat 11th - probably put the thread up over the weekend.
Congratulations are definitely in order for @our_frank, who was closest on the day, set a new own personal best and slightly extended the lead at the top of the leaderboard.
Translated into football league table terms - that looks like a 2 point lead now. @eric_plant and @wwfcblue are within reach of the top for the Wimbledon game.
Also congratulations to @NewburyWanderer who went against the grain with an early post suggesting a low crowd for this game and is the only forecaster to move up the table this week.
For a further view on what the scores mean in terms of a football league table, I will pick on @NewburyWanderer, only justification being a good example of an upwardly mobile forecaster - two weeks in a row - who is roughly mid-table. @NewburyWanderer is about 6 points off the playoffs. There is about 6 points spanning the automatic promotion places and the playoffs.
[Not that there will be any playoffs on this thread I hasten to add]
Oh, and congratulations to @bookertease for managing to get 10 numbers to have an average of exactly 100! That achievement may not be equalled this season.
The competition is more stable from this point onwards. From now to the end of the season each person's best ten predictions count. It is theoretically possible to win with none of your existing results counting.
I have not forgotten the occassional forecasters. There is a table under construction.
The Wimbledon forecast thread is somewhere up on the gasroom. Happy predicting.
This was a hard game to predict accurately - as others have said that is quite an achievement for them to nearly fill the ground for a mid week fixture. I have an opinion that football is attractively priced at £15 a game for an adult which seems to have been shared by many tractor persons.
Leaderboard after the Ipswich Away Game
The top thirteen all remain unchanged, two smart movers mid table @NewburyWanderer and @Forest_Blue who had double digit scores and move into the tightly contested zone where the scores are between 100 and 130. If this were football scoring that zone would be 3 to 6 points off the 'play off places'.
On a personal note I was pleased to land a scoring prediction, being firmly planted in the 'relegation zone'. Congratulations to @bigred87, immediately above me in the table who landed double digits and the third best score of the game, and with an early prediction.
I surprise myself sometimes with how competative I feel.
Happy predicting all for the Charlton game and another bumper crowd.
@wwfcblue said:
Does my prediction count for the Bolton game?
@wwfcblue - the short answer is yes.
When the Bolton game is played you will be credited with a zero score for that game. It seemed like a sensible and interesting prediction to me when you made it. You might need to remind me at the time.
I have done some thinking about this .....
All Forecasters - as @DevC has already pointed out this does make it, in current times, a reasonable strategy to predict that a game will be called off.
So - only the first person to predict a zero crowd will be credited with a zero score and a 'only one substitute rule' will apply - as it did back in my youth. If anyone posts a zero crowd forecast which turns out to be correct because the game is called off and that prediction is then your substitute for the game when it is played with a crowd, then that forecaster cannot use another substitute for the rest of the season.
Call this the covid and exceptional circumstances rule if you wish and I can see that I might need to rep
Two final thoughts - in the end of season wrap up the closest attendance prediction credits will go to forecasters for games with crowds and there is always a slight risk that a zero crowd prediction just might get a mention at the end of the season as the seasons most inaccurate prediction.
The scores were all added to the spreadsheet but nothing changed - Everyone was out more than 3000.
Leaderboard after the Sunderland Home Game
Many changes not to the top four. @floyd moves up from outside the top ten to fifth with a prediction that was just 27 away from the actual attendance of 7229 for the Sunderland game. @micra's reward for a score of 92 this game was to climb eight places in the table to eleventh place.
A special shout out to @SmiroludyBlue who landed a score of just 1 for this game and climbs seven places. @BSE completes the the big climbers of the day - up to twenty fourth with a score of 130.
Three forecaster now have the Sunderland at home forecast as their personal best - @SmiroludyBlue of course, @robin and @Glenactico.
Apologies for not managing this post before the Oxford Game. That update is ready and will follow shortly.
This game belongs to @wwfcblue who was the first to predict that the original Bolton game would be called and so scored a one off zero, hopefully now not to be repeated.
This level of foresight takes him to the top of the table, although the top three are as tightly bunched as ever.
For the rearranged game - @thedieharder and @twizz were joint closest with scores of 84 and both move gently up the table
@BSE was a big climber for the day for the second game in a row. With a score of 92 and in mid table where the scores are close 15th place is reached from 24th.
@wwfcblue was the only forecaster to gain Bolton away as their personal best.
@wwfcblue retains top position. @eric_plant moves from a close third to a close second and incidently becomes the first person to have all their top ten scores less than 100.
@NewburyWanderer recorded a score of just two for the game with an epic prediction and tucks into fifth place.
@DJWYC14 also has a substantial move up the table as a result of a score of 48, which co-incidently was the equal third best score with @eric_plant, @eric_plant forecast 8053 and @DJWYC14 forecast 7957.
@MindlessDrugHoover (score 18) and @NewburyWanderer were the only two to record this particular glorious game as a personal best for forecasting.
@eric_plant said:
10 out of 21 predictions within 100 is pretty decent eh?
Pretty decent indeed. @our_frank has the 9th best within 100, but no-one else has better than seven under 100. Yourself and @our_frank are close all across the first nine of the ten best.
At the consistent extreme accuracy end @NewburyWanderer has two single digit scores, plus one of ten exactly, and @wwfc has the zero from the Bolton game and a single digit score.
@eric_plant recorded the best result of the tight top three and goes back to the top of the table closing in on a sub 50 average score - remarkable consistency! @our_frank in 3rd now has a sub 100 best ten. @NewburyWanderer in 4th continues a very fine run of form and now is actually within touching distance of the top three.
Almost everyone moved positions - @our_frank held onto 3rd and @bigred87, @Wendoverman and myself consolodated our hold on the other end of the table, despite all recording good scores.
@Alexo was the only player to move five or more places - @bookertease and @micra arrived in the top ten.
Much of the season still to go and nothing is settled yet!
Early posting today - partly to take my mind away from the result and more importantly to mark the achievement by @DJWYC14 - who nailed a spot on forecast for the attendence. In consequence he is back in the top ten and into 6th place.
The top three remain unchanged, however a mention for @NewburyWanderer, who landed another scoring prediction of 127 and moves ust a little bit closer to the top three.
A mention for @ryan_w_kirkby2 who makes it into the top ten and @thedieharder who moved up six places.
@DJWYC14 is the only forecaster to have franchise (h) as a personal best.
Good luck to all with predictions for the Shrewsbury game.
Significant changes all over the table this week - most of us were a way out, and although nobody was very close, some cany forecasters were quite close.
At the top: @our_frank retakes 2nd position and is the equivalent of a couple of points from the lead.
It remains very close at the top. @NewburyWanderer continues the fine run of form and joins the top three in joint 3rd place with an identical score to @wwfcblue.
It is the same names in the top ten, @micra - you have a special mention for holding onto 10th place while @ryan_w_kirkby2 and @Erroll_Sims swap places just above you.
Middle table: @DevC lands the 2nd best score of the day and moves up to just outside the top ten. @ValleyWanderer checks in a good score and becomes the 17th player to have a sub 100 Best Ten average. Slightly higher up @a40 also moves up.
The scores for those in the range 100 - 110 are very close together and there is another tie for 22nd place between @Forest_Blue and @mooneyman.
Far end of the table:
One big change - @perfidious_albion joins the main table having made a 15th prediction this week. The achievement is notable as his best ten predictions are comparable to my own for half the number of predictions and I know how hard I try to think about it. @Glenactico is in a similar position with just 14 predictions and will possibily appear after Saturday's tricky game.
Usually the far end of the table is comparatively stable, but the arrival of @perfidious_albion and good scores this week by @Shev, @robin and @bigred87 has thrown the order into turmoil.
Good luck to all with predicting the attendence at Lincoln.
No change with the top four, with none of them recording a score that would count - @eric_plant was close to the attendence at Lincoln, 102 away and the third best of the day - but not quite close enough in the thin air at the top of the table.
@a40 moves up 5 places and into the top ten for the season with his personal best and the closest prediction of the day, and @DJWYC14 and @ryan_w_kirkby2 also move up in the top ten. @peterparrotface also climbs a place with his own new 9th best prediction of the season.
All of us underestimated the crowd for this game so only four scoring forecasts.
@NewburyWanderer with the second best score of the day - 93 - moves up to second from third equal in the table. The top four remain very close together.
@DevC with the third best score of the day - 121 - moves up one place to 12th. There are fine margins in that part of the table too.
@peterparrotface made the biggest impact of the day with the best score of the day - 33 - and in consequence moves a considerable distance up the table.
@Glenactico joins the table, registering a 15th forecast of the season, with a scoring prediction.
A good few good forecasts this week and some very good ones, although nobody has a new personal best.
'Forecaster of the Week' - @ryan_w_kirkby2 - climbs to 5th in the table and now is in touch with the top four who remain unchanged.
@Commoner moves smartly into the top ten and the @mooneyman ascends the most places. @mooneyman and @SmiroludyBlue now both have sub 100 averages. There are twenty forecasters now in this happy state, which is impressive.
@Wendoverman does demonstrate the risk of sacking the manager and not yet making a permanent appointment as @Glenactico slips by.
Good luck to all with the Accrington away prediction - mayhap the numbers will be small and everyone will be close.
First time I have published a top twenty in ages on the Match thread - many people were close. There may have been a lot of missing season ticket holders, but there was some solid predicting of this.
Congratulations to @NewburyWanderer who remains at the top of the table and has more than a three points lead - no-one can catch him on Saturday. It remains very close behind and the chasing bunch seems to grow in size every match. @DJWYC14 moves into 2nd place with a score of 75 - personal 7th best of the season. @Floyd moves into 4th place with a score of 36 - personal 3rd best of the season. @Erroll_Sims regains a place in the top ten.
Again congratulations to 'Forecaster of the week' @PJS [Score 8] who is one of two people to now have Cambridge home as the personal best score, the other being @A_Worboys. @PJS is one of the two big movers of the week and joins the elite club of those with sub 100 averages. @Manboobs was the other big mover and just misses out on the 100 club by a fraction.
I hope to manage to put up the Crewe thread this morning. This should be another game with a smaller crowd where it is easier to register a scoring score.
Apologies for it being later than usual - there was a small dose of mistaken news, from @crewealexfc.
Our predicting was good despite the confusion - three single digit scores and ten more double digit scores.
@NewburyWanderer retains the spot at the top of the table, @wwfcblue moves into 2nd place with a match score of 69 and can now catch @NewburyWanderer at the Rotherham game.
It is then very close indeed behind @wwfcblue, @DJWYC14 needs only to better the attendance prediction of @wwfcblue for the Rotherham game by 2 to retake 2nd place.
Everyone down to @ryan_w_kirkby2 in 9th place can reach 2nd place on Saturday if the figures go their way. This is partly because @Erroll_Sims and @BlueBoy now in 7th and 8th places respectively, both recorded excellent single digit scores for the Crewe game.
There was lots of movement throughout the table, notably @BSE moving up six places to 16th and @peterparrotface moving ten places to 19th.
Four forecasters recorded a new personal best for Crewe away - the single digit scores did that for @BlueBoy and @Erroll_Sims and also for @bigred87 who deserves a special mention for nailing that one. My own score of 27 is also my best for the season so far. I might still make a sub 100 for the best ten predictions!
A note to those at the top of the table
- the last time we completed a season with 46 games which we could see was the 18 / 19 season. @Shev won the competition that season with a 'best 10 average' of 34.2. @DJWYC14 was second with 40.8 and there were a total of 9 forecasters with a sub 50 'best ten averages'
Good luck and happy predicting to all for the Rotherham game.
Fewer changes this game compared to after the Crewe away game, but there were some spectacular changes.
@BlueBoy is the tipster to watch - after moving into 8th place with a single digit score in the Crewe game, a second close prediction in a row resulted in a leap to 2nd. @BlueBoy and @wwfcblue can catch the leader @NewburyWanderer on Tuesday evening.
[Apologies to @BlueBoy for jinxing it]. @bookertease and @Manboobs made the other spectacular moves up the table into 11th and 16th places, @bookertease collecting a new personal best score of 15 on the way, the only new pb of the day.
Not much change at all as everyone overestimated, but @LDF was very close and records a new personal best for the season - @LDF doesn't quite yet meet the criteria which have become standard for featuring in the overall table.
The top ten remain exactly the same. @DevC moves up one place with a 7th best personal prediction so far this season. @perfidious_albion moves up one place with a 5th best personal prediction so far this season.
And that is it. Happy predicting to all for the game at Pompey. I have my ticket for the game and I am really looking forward to it.

@BSE was a big climber for the day for the second game in a row. With a score of 92 and in mid table where the scores are close 15th place is reached from 24th.
@wwfcblue was the only forecaster to gain Bolton away as their personal best.
Leaderboard after the Oxford Home Game
This post follows shortly after the Bolton Game one - that was late.
Onto the Morecambe game .....
10 out of 21 predictions within 100 is pretty decent eh?
Excellent @eric_plant. Will take some beating.
Leaderboard after the Morecambe Away Game
Some fine forecasting for yesterday's game.
@ValleyWanderer, @Twizz, @Wendoverman and @perfidious_albion all recorded personal bests for the season. Particular congratulations to all four of you.
Leaderboard after the franchise home Game
Well done @DJWYC14 ??
Leaderboard after the Shrewsbury home game
Significant changes all over the table this week - most of us were a way out, and although nobody was very close, some cany forecasters were quite close.
At the top:
@our_frank retakes 2nd position and is the equivalent of a couple of points from the lead.
Middle table:
@DevC lands the 2nd best score of the day and moves up to just outside the top ten.
Leaderboard after the Lincoln Away Game
No change with the top four, with none of them recording a score that would count - @eric_plant was close to the attendence at Lincoln, 102 away and the third best of the day - but not quite close enough in the thin air at the top of the table.
@a40 moves up 5 places and into the top ten for the season with his personal best and the closest prediction of the day, and @DJWYC14 and @ryan_w_kirkby2 also move up in the top ten.
@peterparrotface also climbs a place with his own new 9th best prediction of the season.
Leaderboard after the crazy Cheltenham Home Game
All of us underestimated the crowd for this game so only four scoring forecasts.
@NewburyWanderer with the second best score of the day - 93 - moves up to second from third equal in the table. The top four remain very close together.
@DevC with the third best score of the day - 121 - moves up one place to 12th. There are fine margins in that part of the table too.
@peterparrotface made the biggest impact of the day with the best score of the day - 33 - and in consequence moves a considerable distance up the table.
@Glenactico joins the table, registering a 15th forecast of the season, with a scoring prediction.
Next game Wigan at home.
I've sacked my manager.
Phone call to Rob imminent I presume!
Leaderboard after the Wigan Home Game
Leaderboard after the Accrington Away Game
A whole series of good and excellent predictions across the board this week.
Respect to @NewburyWanderer who continues a run of scoring every week and now heads the table for the first time this season.
@NewburyWanderer is now one of three who has all ten best scores less than 100, the others are long time leaders @eric_plant and @our_frank.
@DJWYC14 moves up from 6th to 3rd with the second best score of the day (20).
@Devc also moves up three places into 10th.
In mid table @Alexo and @Forest_Blue join the club of those whose average qualifying score is less than 100.
@perfidious_albion was the forecaster to register a new personal best score in this game.
Overall 17 forecasters registered scoring scores -
1 personal best
2 second best
5 fourth best
2 sixth best
2 seventh best
3 eighth best
2 ninth best
A good all round performance by the Gasroom Forecasters, for the attendance anyway.
Cambridge attendance thread up soon.
Leaderboard after the Cambridge Home Game
Up the Blues.
The Crewe Away Game
Oh and @micra rejoins the top ten.
Leaderboard after the Crewe Away Game
The Rotherham Home Game
@Shev joined the sub 100 club and @perfidious_albion joined the sub 150 club.
Happy predicting to all for the Fleetwood home game on Tuesday.
