I think it's worth pointing out that Wycombe target players not just based on talent, but also on character, the latter to a finer degree than other clubs. Was it in 'Close Quarters' where Dobbo told the anecdote of them scouting a player, only to see him gesture angrily at the manager when being substituted, which was enough to remove him from consideration? So unless a player has played for us before, it is really hard to know which available players would pass muster on the character front in addition to talent.
I do wonder whether to take this whole 'we judge a player on character' thing with just the slightest smidgeon of salt. Anis Mehmeti and Josh Knight both strike me as players who would express dissatisfaction at being substituted. Adam el Abd had a hard man image but was brought in as captain.
Point taken, but I do think we do things differently - even the way our substitutes supported the team during the L1 playoffs compared to the opponents was noticeable, and more than one player (if I remember rightly) has commented on how rare the team spirit is (with details that indicate it is more than just standard platitudes).
I don't think it means each Wycombe player has to be an angel, more that they have certain traits that will mesh well with the dressing room.

I'd be more concerned if my player didn't show dissatisfaction at being subbed, tbh.
I think the nuance is the player was gesturing angrily at the manager, which is a step up from just appearing disappointed to come off. There is definitely a difference.

Yeah, fair enough, although I think you can gesture angrily at the manager in a 'reasonable' way - when it's disappointment more than 'I want to punch you'.

True - not everything has to be Kevin Ellison to Derek Adams (though that was not a substitution, or even the same team!)
Not as mobile and doesn't have the same kind of individual skill/flair as Uche, but then the likelihood of finding another, affordable player with that skillset is slim to none, I suspect. FI are generally reliable for EFL stuff - called the Tafazolli move a little while before it happened.

The interweb seems to suggest he's on 33k a week!
So unless Stoke are happy to massively fund his wages on a loan....
Well I understand that Stoke want rid so as is always pointed out at such a situation..... He will be on £0 a week. Getting towards the latter stages of his career. Might just fancy regular football and a steady income.

Apparently they'll let him go permanently - only a year left on his deal.
They might need to give him a few quid to leave if he's contracted for £35k pw for another year , either that or let him out on a heavily subsidised loan

Exactly.
There's no chance he's losing out on that last deal.
It's not like he's on £3,300 for a year, and we're offering £2,500 for 2 years. He might walk away from that.
But £33k to £3k? Even for a 3 year deal, no chance!!

This is a rare case where the 'He's on £0 at the moment' argument might actually carry some weight.
Except he has a year left on that deal.
Which they could mutually agree to terminate. I'm not saying it's likely we'll get him, but I don't think it's as bonkers a suggestion as people think.

They certainly want rid so they might pay him off. I think the heavily subsidised loan option might be safer for us in case we can't get him going again for whatever reason.
I'm not sure about the wisdom of this myself, if it is true. I cannot believe we would possibly miss out on good young players with potential in order to pay above the odds for such a player who might prove an expensive disaster. Like may of the usual doubters though, if he is the 30 goal a season man who gets us back up I will be happy to be proved wrong.
Vokes would defo be a great signing for us in L1. Hes obviously has had a great career generally and would be happy to see him in the quarters. Only problem is I dont know if we can see him as a 'long term replacement' for Uche, but definitely a good signing otherwise.

I would love to see Sam Vokes in a Wanderers shirt, proper old fashion battering ram !!
A bit of an Andy Rammell type signing. A great move if it comes off.
Sam vokes would be an unbelievable signing if we got that over the line
He's had a fairly shabby last couple of years but if we can get him going it could be a phenomenal signing
Would be a sensational signing if there is any truth to it. Fingers crossed

Well.... I guess we will all have to wait and see....

Slightly off topic, but this is absolutely sensational content from Newport.
Didn’t Stoke pay almost £10m for him just a few seasons back? Would be a real statement of intent if we can pull this off.
Haha, Sam Vokes to Adams Park!
That's about as likely as Wycombe playing in the Championship.
Oh hang on a minute, I see what's happened ...
Cue the big announcement before the leceister friendly!
Genuinely would be over the moon if we sign Vokes, would certainly be a statement signing.
I'm sucker for a big burly intelligent striker with loads of guile.
I'd be ecstatic with Vokes arriving !!
