You seem a bit confused, do you need us to call someone for you, nurse or something? We did spend most of that season fighting to stay up, the one game that we failed to do so made me pretty annoyed because it was against a team in appalling form who were our main rival for that last relegation spot at the time. I never got annoyed at any other performance that season, because we at least tried to win those games or sat back on a point against the top / in-form teams. That day we were playing against the only team below us in the form table and we didn't bother attacking. I stand by every word I posted in that thread, and funnily enough if we had scored a goal in that game we'd have stayed up.
I remember the game, and I agreed with @drcongo at the time. It was home against Birmingham, and we absolutely looked like we were just trying to make sure we grabbed a point (which we did, 0-0). There is a difference between "not trying to win" and "trying to lose". It genuinely came off as "trying to draw".
Not to absolve players or staff of blame but perhaps natural to lose a bit of fight when you've tried everything for months and got little or no reward. There was one point where Rob gave them a bit of a rocket and they picked up a little bit, not advocating for that either but everything had dropped a bit and even the commentary was a bit dreary.
I seem to recall having to explain the semantic difference between "not trying to win" and "trying not to win" to someone before, probably @our_frank given his confusion at basic language again.
True. I think there was also the subtext of having just lost 7-2 at Brentford, so GA wanted to get something on the board for the next game, even if it meant being unadventurous in the extreme.
I remember feeling really hard done by in this game, we were well in it until the referee made some questionable decisions and it really got to the players mentally. Brentford took full advantage of that.
We had some rotten decisions go against us that season and it really never did even itself out - the Horgs goal that never was and the gut punch at the end of the Norwich game also stand out.
Apart from not being able to see any games (or 2) my big regret with the Championship was our recruitment. 2 headline signings were injured for most the season and the rest didn’t set the world alight. I excused the summer window as everyone was all over the show, January we didn’t give it a go.
They have some decent senior pros but have by far the smallest over 21 squad in League One.
They have some superb youngsters and one of the best Training Ground set ups in the country. If the youngsters can mature quickly they will move up the table over the next 6 months

This is true
Were we fighting for it or not, though?

Man, those saves from Ryan Allsop

Quite something weren’t they.
I need to watch them again. I'm certain at the time I thought the 2nd one was one of the best I'd ever seen from any keeper, let alone a Wycombe one
One of them was absolutely outrageous
Dejan Tetek signs for Aldershot.
lumme.
Forgot about him tbh, another one who might be talented but needs to play before anyone will commit to signing, wish him well.
I’m gonna guess Ainsworth won’t see the weekend out.
My QPR supporting colleague is already messaging me fuming at how bad they are
It'd feel odd to see them let him off with a home battering, and 2 week international break, only to then pull the plug the next week?
I am genuinely not sure they can sack him without violating FFP. They are right up against the line.
Doubt they've got the ready cash to pay him and his staff off at the moment.
Surely appointing/sacking managers can't get caught up in FFP?
That'd be madness.
Ironic because if for the second time in his career he can’t be sacked because his club can’t afford it. Worked out ok last time.
Neither Gape nor Mellor featured for Sutton today.
Mellor could be done in pro football for the foreseeable
He probably just needs to find his level and hit a bit of form...perhaps too early to totally write off a career.
I'm sure it'll be fine as long as their replacements will work for free.
Slough town appear to have signed funky elephant. Huge step down for them
I wonder if Lewis Wing is regretting his choice over the close season yet. I just can’t see how Reading can turn it around this season.
