Re: JJ needed security article.
JJ is not responsible for the actions of the Israeli Government and is well within his rights to express his horror at the inhumanity of the Hamas terrorists on October 7th.
An ordinary Palestinian is not responsible for the actions of the Hamas terrorists and is well within his rights to express his horror at the inhumanity of the Israeli Government since October 7th.
Not hard concepts to grasp surely.
Re: Match Day Thread: Bradford (EFL Trophy)
Has Richard Kone been given enough credit for his assist by the way?
First of all he has to win the ball back but then after creating a bit of space for himself he drops in an absolutely perfect pass to Matt Butcher. It was a brilliant pass
Re: EFL Trophy
Just wanted to pop on and say very well done on getting to Wembley and I wish you well in the final. As far as revenue is concerned we (Bolton) did really well financially out of it with up to about £500k net at the end of it. Granted we played Plymouth and had around 80k there which clearly you and Posh won’t have but apart from the cash it’s just such a great day out and the opportunity for your players to actually play there and for the club to win a trophy is something everyone will remember. Even if you lose, it can still be a fantastic day out and something you’ll always remember and I know, I’ve done both win and lose. So best of luck and hopefully you’ll thrash those posh buggers and have a great day out. too 😉
Re: Match Day Thread: Bradford (EFL Trophy)
Just back from Bradford. Super support! Difficult conditions, Bradford clearly advantaged by recent games on that surface. We didn’t look ourselves - nothing like the control of Saturday, but not surprising, it’s a lot to adapt to immediately, after playing on our carpet. However, we stuck to it, dug in, fought for each other, pinched it, and it’s just totally delightful...! Just a bit deflating coming back to read some of the defeatist claptrap on this thread (again).
“We’re at Wembley!!”
“Yeah, but we’ve only played against kids up to now ... we were shit tonight... We don’t even deserve it... Worst team ever to get to Wembley... blah blah blah”.
CLEAN SHEET? - Yep!
VICTORY IN 90 MINS? - Yep!
WEMBLEY? - Yep!
Thank you and goodnight - and enjoy the shirt, young Kirbys!!!!
Re: Match Day Thread: Bolton
Cheers Shev and for what it’s worth I thought you were unlucky not to take a point last night. We were just awful first half and especially our passing out from the back which just played into the hands of your very effective high press so it was a relief when we broke the deadlock albeit against the run of play. After that we settled down and second half we began to take over and apart from one glaring miss by you we always looked more like scoring and eventually did. We’re really missing our first choice keeper Baxter and Santos in the centre who bosses the defence and controls the passing out. Baxter could be out a week or two sadly but Santos should return next week.
Unfortunately we’re also missing our cutting edge as Charles is really off the pace at the moment but we’re managing to find ways to score without him. We’ve got Charlton here Saturday then one of our games in hand at Cambridge on Tuesday and we need six points and I think we’ll get them. I don’t see any dangers for you this season, you showed last night and Saturday what a good team you are so good luck for the rest of the season and thanks to yourself and all of your guys.for allowing me to post. 👍
Re: Everton Stadium
Will try and keep it brief! From a young age 5 or 6 I'd do a footy coupon and Wycombe would be the only non league team on it each week. Felt like they'd never let me down and always won. Started looking out for results and would get a Wycombe kit for Xmas off my aunties.
Got to my first game at Wigan away in 93 and I'd of be 8 then. The next season (just looked up the fixtures) Stockport away I went with a envelope with my address on, asked 4 or 5 Wycombe fans if they'd take my envelope and some money and could they send me a pendant. They took the envelope but no money, shortwhile later I received a load of Wycombe goodies, hat, autographs, car kit the lot. I was probably already hooked but this just took it to another level.
As I got a little older and into my teens I'd mainly the north west games, met some good lads who I'm still in touch with today and just gone on from there really, loved nothing more than travelling on the train to a home game, meet up with some mates and watching the football.
Been to some good and not so good games in the past 30 years, met plenty of good people, watched my mate from by ours play for us (Peter Murphy) and now I enjoy taking my kids with me.
Never counted how many games I do a season but probably average around a dozen. Biggest regrets was missing the semi final against Liverpool (went to watch Everton v Man City instead) and Torquay away but like to think I've been lucky to see plenty of the big games in that time.
I've always gone the Everton game too since a baby and still do to this day. It's getting a little harder with the kids growing up and my eldest playing herself now but got Bolton and Bradford to look forward to in the next couple of weeks.
Re: Match Day Thread: Peterborough
Final stat before my bedtime….it’s 21 years since Peterborough won a league game at Adams Park and on that happy note I’ll say good night.
Re: Oxford to share AP ?
£1.2m for three sides of a stadium - I make that £1.6m for a proper stadium.
Re: Saxon Earley just signed
Just thought I'd pop in to offer a Plymouth perspective on Saxon.
We signed him this time last year from Norwich, though he'd been on loan at Stevenage where he'd been playing left-back. Their fans were gutted to lose him and so was their manager. We played a back three at the time but he seemed to adapt pretty well to wing-back. He doesn't have electric pace or fancy footwork but he is a natural defender - aggressive in the tackle and positionally sound. He even managed to grab a couple of goals for us by being in the right place at the right time.
We started this season playing a back four and it looked like Saxon would be a semi-regular member of the team. He played really well in a 0-0 draw at Watford in August but we haven't seen him since. If he can rediscover his fitness then you've got a very good player.
Nigel Lonwijk is another promising talent. He's very comfortable on the ball but he does occasionally lack focus and he made a few costly errors for us last season. That said, he was playing his first proper season of senior football and in a team who played high-risk football from the back. I liked him and think he'll do well for you.
Butch, meanwhile, is a solid pro who won't let you down. He's one of those steady eddie players who won't necessarily catch the eye but will do all the basics well. He also has a handy knack of popping up with the odd goal from outside the box, including one against our friends up the A38 that will go down in Argyle folklore.
You've basically got three League One title winners in your squad now and I think you'll have no problem staying up.
