FA Cup Poem 2022
The snow fell hard, on a humdrum town
This club has dragged you down
It's December 1990, Gazza's in his prime
But down in deep High Wycombe
It's challenge trophy time
Look, it's hard to understand this
But I swear to God they cheered
All around the local community
Peterborough were revered
A different time, but the same old (new) place
Adams Park, so fresh and new
Local interest, national interest
Just what can (little) Wycombe do?
Tuns out nothing
It's a Football Focus meme
Motson in his hated coat
Killing all our dreams
God, the profits outsiders made that day
As the angel snow did fall
While we lost some decent revenue
And no-one kicked a ball
That sheepskin coat shaped football
For 20 years or more
When all it was in truth was bad news
For the backroom lads on Final Score
Time's moved on, things have changed
It doesn't snow these days
Motson's coat is in a skip
Somewhere out near Hayes
So drink it in, the FA Cup
Remember that brown coat worn by Beeks?
And somewhere in a flatland field
A Swann man turns and shrieks
Re: Match day thread: Peterborough
A word of praise for Stryek, what a find he is proving to be. As others have said, his kicking is inconsistent but we are comparing him to Stockdale whose distribution was exceptional. He commands the six yard box and when he makes saves he always pushes the ball wide so there is little danger of it going to an opposition player. I think he’s been excellent.
Re: Match day thread: Peterborough
He can’t. I’ve banned him for being an insufferable prick.
Re: Match day thread: Peterborough
Love that! He really is a nasty piece of work and when I emailed him at the end of last season to politely point out that Wycombe got more Championship points than his team he replied with a barrage of insults about Wycombe and me personally. I have nothing against Peterborough but it would give me enormous pleasure to win today for that reason among many.
Re: @drcongo and @ReturnToSenda
Seeing as people seem concerned (I appreciate it, but there's really no need), I'm fine. Idk if I'll be back properly, but at the moment I'm just taking a break. I reckon I've quit Twitter for good, was becoming exhausting and I can do without it.
Re: Match day thread: Burton
Really bad day for the bedwetters yesterday, not least with the flurry of posts following the announcement of the team.
That pass from Scowen to set up Wheeler for the first goal was out of this world. If he's adding that + the type of goal he followed up with to his game then we have an absurdly good footballer on our hands.
Then you've got Anis Mehmeti who is set for the season of his life. To be honest, at this point I just want to get to the end of August knowing he's still our player.
Sam Vokes, who wins everything, Garath McCleary who is a superstar at this level....this squad is unbelievable and the best we've ever had. If you can't get excited and carried away about where it might potentially take us I feel sorry for you.
Re: Rob Couhig - misplaced optimism?
The last 3 seasons under the Couhigs have all been fantastic - promotion to the Championship for the first time in our history, nearly surviving the Championship relegation against all odds and due to some rampant cheating, and then getting to within 90 minutes of an immediate return to the Championship.
The facilities are improved, the crowds are up, the merchandise revenues are up, we even have a substantially bigger global fan base than before.
Yet Couhig is now a glass half full dickhead this year because, before a ball has even been kicked, with a transfer window that has weeks and weeks left to run, we haven't signed 4 top quality players?
These young players we've signed are not meant to be like for like replacements for Stewart, Stockdale and Bayo. They are not meant to be statements of intent. They are for the future, unless they do a Memehti / Forino and excel straight away, and even our most cynical fan chants their names now.
We will still sign a few first team names, and maybe loan a few more.
And lest we forget, we're still Wycombe. We get gates of 5k, in an expensive, competitive part of the country. If you need top quality, household name talent being signed year on year, go down the road and support Chelsea. This isn't the club for you.
Re: Match day thread: play-off Final
Afternoon everyone, SAFC fan here in peace.
Firstly I'd just like to say commiserations yesterday, having been to Wembley four times previously myself and lost the lot, I know all too well how it feels so I'm certainly not here to gloat.
On the balance of the game we deserved it, I think the early goal scuppered your game plan a little bit and it was HT before your lads had the opportunity to re-group.
Second half theres a couple of moments where you may have got level, the Vokes one where it wouldn't sit for him (Pattison did marvelously mind) and the Hanlan one where he picks completely the wrong option with numbers up in support. Of course about 90 seconds later we get the second and the game was won.
Obviously I'm absolutely over the moon, we've paid our pennance in this league and then some and hopefully its the beginning of getting us back on a positive footing, Alex Neil the mastermind of that.
As far as Wycombe go you'll always be competitive with GA, its his entire philosophy at the club that drives it on and I'm sure he'll be identifying players to come in and play their part. I'm sure Akinfenwa will be a massive miss to you all, I could sense the lift every body got when he came on.
Anyway I'm rambling. Best of luck for next season!
Gasroom 2.1
Hey kids. This is your new look Gasroom. Things of note...
- Quoting is now much more space friendly - @AlanCecil and @micra I think you'll like it
- You can finally upload images - just in time for everyone's Wembley pics
- The site is now responsive, so it should work on any screen size (personally, I have it zoomed in a bit Cmd+plus on a Mac, dunno how you do it on Windows) including mobile
- It should be a lot faster
- The thumbs function now contributes towards the "Best Of..." feature in the menu up top there. Highly upvoted posts will always be easy to find. Moderators get an extra button too called "promote" which is basically the equivalent of 5 votes or something, so we can help highlight particularly useful posts. Too many downvotes and a post will self destruct. Or something, I don't know what yet. I trust you all to be grown ups and use these features responsibly.
- All the old posts are there, but the new version stores the data slightly differently, so this means quotes in old posts still look like they did before, and emoji in old posts is broken, which you'll notice especially in the Wordle threads.
