  • There is logic about if you're in 2nd, you have to show you're better than the players currently holding the shirts.

But as we're barely winning a game and are something like 14th in the 2month form table, surely there's a likelihood we should switch it up a bit. Especially further up the pitch.

  • Didn’t watch the game - the first one I’ve missed for a very long time.

However, each of the people I’ve spoken to suggested it was a poor advert for Wycombe and League 1 football in general. Limited quality. Lots of long ball. Bus situation was disastrous. A long, expensive day out for families. It does feel as if we are cursed with these sorts of high attendance / family-focused games.

  • There were certainly plenty of comments about whether this was a top or bottom of the table clash.

And there not being much danger of the 4,000 once a season game fans coming back!

  • Morley was my favourite player this year (alongside Harvie) and was absolutely gutted when he left. However, and this could be complete BS, but I’m sure I read either here or elsewhere that there were rumours that Morley was outside of the data parameters hence why we only put in a small bid for loan extension. Which also goes to show that a data driven model is going to take some getting used to.

  • The data should be only one tool as part of a wider conversation but there's really no statistical measure for calmness, leadership, judgement, taking the heat out of dodgy moments, getting us playing with flair and another thousand factors very obvious to game going fans and experienced coaches, as someone put earlier this all makes a bit more sense if the new signings are 18/19 with an eye on the future.

  • Well said @glasshalffull

A massive blow but still lots of games to go. I still can't work out how Wrexham managed to nick these one nils but have to accept it's more than luck now.

  • As an armchair supporter, I would have gone to Evatt with a bank cheque book and said name your price. We’ve simply never been the same team since he left - we lost like, one league game with him on the pitch didn’t we?

  • If that's the case I for one am glad we did not get him...or would Sam Grace still be caretaker while a bloke who had not managed much for a few months worked his way towards the bench to manage in 6 minute chunks every now and then?

I can't work out how good or bad the new signings are yet and it's a bit unfair to try given how little we've seen...but anyone who thinks Reach should be dropped while Harvie is injured needs help.🙂

  • Disagree with this. I thought there was a great atmosphere and until the enforced break was quite an intriguing game that could have gone either way. I think you'll find the 8 million people never coming back is down to Norris poor distribution and Mike Dodds not chewing his gum proper.

  • I appreciate your optimistic take, but for a lot of the game I thought it would be hard for so many to make less noise.

However, back positive, they will be back, for our championship 1st home game next season.

It's just that we're doing it the Oxford way - 2nd for ages, change manager, struggle, slip into play offs as 5th THEN go up gloriously, arguably even better than as 2nd.

  • I do agree with you, and I've even made comments like this myself in this very thread alone. Reading it in the way you've said it however, is perhaps not a sensible business move for the club.

At the end of the season, I'd imagine that we will lose:- Fred, McCleary, Vokes, Humphreys, Taylor, Low, Kone, Kodua., Taff, Hartridge, Butcher

Then we have question marks over: Sadlier, Scowen, Ravizolli, Reach, Simons, Udoh, Bakinson, Hanlan

To sign one player for that amount of money would perhaps have been a little irresponsible, especially when before he came to us he was probably worth about £350k. I remember MB saying we'd be "tracking him for a while". If only we'd stumped up the cash then.

I actually felt sorry for Westergaard yesterday. He looked as out of depth as I've ever seen any player. To carry that fee on his shoulders must bear heavy. I hope he comes good but I just can't see it, and it has to be a written off as a mistake by the club. Matt Butcher was better....

  • I was sat next to one lady who sat motionless in silence for nearly the entire game, she only moved during the pause, to leave the ground.

  • Morley was the heartbeat of the team and we seriously messed up by not signing him but wasting well over a million of on players who’ve been little or no use to us, particularly the Danes.

  • Most of the "out" list are probably likely, but why Fred? Assuming he's not on out of contract?

Not sure Westergaard was particularly bad was he? Just couldn't really get into what what a bit of a physical long ball game in the short 10mins he was afforded. Just unlucky one ball got stuck under his feet when he could have broken.

  • To be fair, we don't know that Bolton wanted to sell. We made a loan offer with a fee, which for a player that Bolton didn't want at the time was a fair offer. Morley wanted to stay by the looks of things - which can only mean that Bolton didn't want to sell, or we couldn't agree a fee. All the hype around our billionaire owner and how much we wanted him to stay meant that they could play hardball,

Bolton were in a win - win situation. Either we paid the fee they wanted, or they had a "new signing" on their hands.

I'm not sure it would have been right to fall victim to that.

The mistake appears to be the judgment of these new signings. It was always suggested they were signed for the future, so let's judge them then.

  • He could still be one of the leavers, but probably not.

Big turnovers of players in a summer doesn't ever feel a great idea, unless you have the near disaster Torquay season situation.

  • That's a lovely touch. Worldwide recognition for what a club we are.

  • We know Bolton were prepared to sell because they publicly stated they were prepared to listen to our offers, we just don’t know how much. It seems they wanted 7 figures. The loan fee offer was always going to be turned down, as you allude, Bolton held the cards.

But Bolton were also in a dire place at the time.

If the rumours were true about the data and Morley, and Morley was in the catchment window of that data, I believe we would have paid a transfer fee.

It’s history now, we have Simons for the rest of the season, but I will 100% stand on the hill and die on it, Morley, over Kone, has been the biggest miss of this club. He was the conductor and opened up all three channels, hence why we were scoring for fun, as Cam was literally in his sweet spot with Morley pulling the strings and Scowen was sweeping back and and forth like the bulldog he is.

  • Totally agree. I remember the first game Morley and Cameron played together and it was incredible.

Unrelated - I think there's a very good player in Westergaard. I think he'll be a key player. He's quick, can slot a pass, dribble and will get stronger. He's obviously settling in to the intensity of English football.
