A points a point. Pretty poor game and they came for that.’kid a quid’ game was bound to be dull as whenever we try these initiatives the game almost always fails to deliver.
Few people going to calm down and regret their contributions to this thread I reckon.
There will be loads more games like this between now and the end of the season. All part and parcel of challenging for promotion. As the season progresses the pressure increases. You simply don't win promotion by cruising to 3-0 wins every week I'm afraid.
Dull game but a word about the Wigan ‘fans’. my son works the turnstiles and said the Wigan fans were the worst he’s had to deal with. Got verbally abused and threatened 4 or 5 times - don’t think a young lad should have to put up with that. I certainly wouldn’t at work.
Only saw the last ten minutes of the match. Mostly pointless long ball (had hoped we'd moved on from that - but if that is going to remain a weapon in our locker, surely we should be making sure Sam Vokes is in the squad?
I am verging on being disappointed in Mike Dodds - he has so much talent at his disposal, we shouldn't ever set up to beat Wigan by the odd goal. I want cavalier, sexy football. We have the players for that, now let's see it consistently.
Exactly. I've said this before, but it's worth mentioning that we have struggled to break down these teams coming to AP for a few months now, including many games under Blooms and Sam Grace.
Just like Wigan, each of Mansfield, Bolton, Reading, Huddersfield, Northampton, and Exeter came to AP, packed the defence, sat back for a draw, and barely even tried to threaten our goal. We very fortunately beat Mansfield and Exeter, but it's not like today was an outlier. It's extremely hard to play against these tactics, and I don't think the manager (Blooms or Dodds or Grace) can really be criticised too much. You need an opposition error or a bit of luck in these type of games, and we haven't got that recently
I think the pressure of a promotion chase is getting to the fans (collectively speaking) more than it is the players. Big game next week and an occasion to savour. Let’s regroup…
I’m going to live up to my nom de plume. As a spectacle today was certainly disappointing, but if Wrexham fail to win tomorrow it will mean that none of the top 6 have collected 3 points this weekend. Those being hyper critical just imagine how fans of Stockport, Huddersfield and Orient will be feeling. There could be plenty of games like this on the run in and let’s not forget that we have become very hard to beat which is a good omen. Wigan have conceded just 31 goals in 32 games so that was always going to be a difficult game.
Any criticism of Dodds I find quite ….mystifying? He’s come into a new club, getting to know the players, has a load of new faces at different stages of match readiness, a new coaching team and a club very much in flux. Is there anything else that could be thrown at the guy? An ambivalent fan base maybe?
We are second guys. We have some great talent on and off the pitch. We are being backed to the hilt. Life should be good. Let’s celebrate it.
Could be a very half-full/half-empty outlook tomorrow, depending on Wrexham’s result. If they lose or draw, fantastic. If they close within three points ahead of our tricky trip to Birmingham then no doubt it’ll get twitchy. Our healthy goal difference could still be a significant factor come the end of the season. Maybe these shutouts ain’t all bad!
You have to give Birmingham respect as this type of tactics is just about every game they play . They have found ways to overcome this for the majority of games . We need to learn from them and see how they deal with it .
Disappointed not to win a game we controlled but it's the business end of season and we did not lose. Haven't read the rest of the thread but if we are falling out over a draw, we must be doing something right.
I thought the game was fairly similar to Tuesday. Had we got the breakthrough it would likely have been a relatively comfortable win.
Main gripe is that we don't really push the tempo of the game up much, which is disappointing when you're at home and going for promotion. It's very methodical, controlled football and we rarely seem to speed up the game or try a riskier pass. I'm sure it's an effective way to win games but at times it can be quite dull to watch.
Looking forward to the games against Birmingham, Wrexham, Huddersfield and some of the mid-table sides that look safe as you'd expect them to come out and attack us a bit more.
To me Wigan looked like a team who came with the sole intent of not conceding and I’m sure went home delighted with their point and performance. They’ll probably be happy if they play out nil nils for the rest of the season.
Had we scored early on I think it would have been a very different game but once Wigan worked just how to park the bus that was all she wrote. Work for Dodds to do on how to flex his system in games like this. If he’s smart he’ll get there.
The bloke next to me seemed unimpressed with our tidy passing around our back line and his daughter seemed unimpressed with everything. They won’t be back. Sadly think a fair few new faces will feel the same after today. Ah well, maybe a few more will turn out for Wrexham?
As for this place, if we come out fighting at Birmingham and pull off an upset perhaps the Gasroom will return to civility? Until then, I’m off to read about whatever Trump’s been up to. Can’t be more depressing than this place can it?
I'll explain - several on here thought it was a dull game and said so. We were then told to "move on" (from what? It's today's game) and "grow up".
In short: the same people who acted desperate to "move on" from Bloomfield then find a new issue to "move on" from when we try and talk about today's game. It's absolutely fine if you feel it was pulsating excitement - that's what debate is for! Acting superior and because you didn't find it dull and finger wagging those who did? Pompous.
Again, Dodds is the current head coach. It should be absolutely fine to say the football has been a little on the dull side so far. I very much want him to succeed, and he had nothing to do with the other thing people supposedly don't want to discuss but keep bringing up.

You just have to not wet the bed about it.
I agree. It would be worse to be Stockport or Huddersfield today.

Dodds set the team up in exactly the same way that Bloomfield was setting the team up previously.
Agreed 👍👍

I dread to think how some people will cope if we lose to Wrexham and this goes down to the wire.

And just seen Fred got racially abused by a Wigan fan. Their club needs to sort this shit out.
Sad day really, what with people falling out on here and now Fred having to endure abuse from a complete knuckledragger.
At least members of the Blooms Appreciation Society will be able to celebrate an easy win tomorrow.
If it wasn't basically £50 for my thirteen-year-old and I to attend today, I'd probably be a lot more philosophical about that rather dull point.

That's some going on kid a quid day

What criticism?
(Other than @aloysius whose comments in general are usually mystifying)
Surely the stewards should be turning these people away?
From where I was perched in the north some chap in a yelllow coat got ‘asked’ to leave in the first half - hopefully it was him..
only noticed as it was a bit more interesting than the game at that point..😞

Was the reading Birmingham 0-0 more exciting?

Still second.

Well that was an edifying read.

Unfortunately, we classify a kid as eleven and under.
Glad to hear that it's not just me thinking that "it's some going"!
