It is very unfortunate timing given there’s a slim chance there just might have been an opportunity for him at some point during January to show what he can do. And also given he’s match ready having played about 15 odd matches for Dorking, whose fans think plenty of him.
made the schoolboy error for a second of seeing the “watch interview on Wanderers TV” link and thinking, “why the hell are they showing an interview from our site…oh.”
He might be accomplished, but if he was anywhere near our level he wouldn't be out on loan in the sixth tier. He's out of contract in the summer, isn't he?
As someone who suggested a couple of days ago that the club now recruits players seen to have Championship potential, my suggestion that Jack Young could possibly now do a decent job for us does seem slightly ridiculous but he has plenty of talent/football intelligence and four tier leaps have been known to work on occasion.
I think you have to be careful with broad brush statements like that, I’m sure if you went through the Bolton message board in August you’d find some berk arguing that if Morley was good enough for Bolton he wouldn’t be out on loan at Wycombe.
Player development isn’t linear and any division - even the sixth tier and below - will have players that are good enough to play much higher, players that have reached their level and players that aren’t good enough.
Jasper Pattenden, Richard Kone and Declan Skura are all good examples of players that had the potential to play higher.
For what it’s worth, Morley hasn’t updated his Instagram bio “professional footballer WWFC’ and his display picture is of him in action for WWFC. This is despite him appearing to be fairly active on the platform.
One problem / opportunity could be that Evatt has now staked quite a bit on Aaron Morley coming back and playing well. If he doesn't and he doesn't propel Bolton up the table then Evatt's future at Bolton is further unbalanced.
Thinking about it from Aaron’s point of view, he’s going back to play for a manager who clearly doesn’t really want him because he’s already set a fee for him to go yet he’s been allowed to return from a club who appear to rate him yet don't seem prepared to make a bid for him other than on loan. I wonder what that says to Aaron? I still believe a deal will be done because I believe all parties want it done so it just depends when? Of course your owners may not want to have him permanently in which case Aaron stays with us and we see what happens at the end of the season. Seems like the only thing we can all agree on is how much of a dickhead Evatt is. 😀
I really don’t understand the strategy of trying to get an extended loan period. I am with you @FarmerCee , we know what he is capable of and he is still young and certainly fits our pattern of play, so just agree a deal for a permanent move.
As you say, the lad must be confused with the current scenario.
People increasingly use loans with fixed fees to shift payment a bit later or just for time to allow us to agree a fee if we are close, no good to Bolton if they want to replace him probably, also possible ML doesn't fancy being our cash machine in quite the way some suggest.
Yes, in public they’ve always been hard done by and a loss or draw has been out of his hands. Behind the scenes Sharon has told him he needs to improve his results as it’s down to him but publicly he’s had the dreaded vote of confidence.
Lets hope Evatt stays at least this month as we have more chance of getting Morley back with him at the helm.
Can't speak for Bolton but I'm sure Morley would not have left us confused about our stance and why things have panned out as they have. Bloomfield and Co are straight, honest people as far as I can see.
I understand some posters hate to write a player off, and like to be kind etc.
But it's pro football, it's ruthless. He's been here 3 years, barely got near the pitch and it's not unfair or unkind to suggest he's probably not currently up to our level - which is a strong level of football. Not to mention that we're aspiring to be an even higher level next season.
He might come back strong and have a decent league career, but right now he's well off.
I think he will have a career but probably not at a high level. People can have more success under different managers with different theories but have we ever had someone hang around for this long without playing and then suddenly make a spot their own?
Aside from how the shenanigans from both sides in negotiations might put Aaron out of joint, from the Wycombe perspective a loan deal for the rest of this season would be advantageous on the basis of balancing the SCMP equation for this season. A deal can be pencilled in if Wycombe get promoted, where the cost control protocol would be different to League 1.

I didn't realize, poor lad!

I think the downthumbers would be pleasantly surprised if they could see how accomplished a midfielder Jack Young now is.
Don’t rule him out.

Jack Young and the Downthumbers would be a great band name, folk rock with slightly edgy lyrics, I think.
Yes indeed.

More Evatt Morley chat for those that can stomach it...
"From what I have seen he has done well (at Wycombe) and I am sure he will do really well for us now for the remainder of the season"
Evatt is just playing games at this point.
For what it’s worth, Morley hasn’t updated his Instagram bio “professional footballer WWFC’ and his display picture is of him in action for WWFC. This is despite him appearing to be fairly active on the platform.
If Morley scores today, surely it will be a record of having scored for a different team against the same side within a week?

Not meant to be a broad brush statement, just an observation on his trajectory. I don't expect him to play for Wycombe again.
And absolutely player development isn't linear, but he's not a kid - he's 24.
No, nor me. Although I’ve a feeling it might be one we look back on with a degree of regret.

May I humbly suggest that what Evatt chooses to say in public may bear little relation to what is actually going on behind the scenes?

Not sure that works with this transfer window but maybe longer term

His deal was unusually long wasn't it
Maybe it was thought of as a bit of a coup and securing him on the cheap for years to come. Suspect it will be called doing a Chelsea in the future.

Football supporters on social media in 2025.
No idea what that’s about.
Guessing it's Evatt. Vile regardless.
Mmmm, suppose.
