  • He played deep for us, with Scowen , our outstanding dm further forward, nobody could work out why for a few weeks until Morely started the spraying of passes and Scowen was keeping the ball in the opposition half with others attacking as well, was a joy to watch for a couple of months, no idea if we can do it without him or have to come up with something else.

Interesting to hear you say you think a transfer is still on, I assumed after that goal he'd now be sainted and untouchable with any suggestion of a sale career threatening for Evatt. Funny old game. Think people, including many on this forum forget we are shouting along and watching things happen and not much else.

  • Did I misread this? Morley solely played as the deep player for us, so i'm not sure any of us would agree he's better further forward?

  • Time to shut this thread down. He’s not coming back. Thanks for the memories.

  • We have Sheehan and Matete in the deep role but Morley whilst he can obviously play there was better further forward where his passing, shooting and set pieces were his strong points. I suppose a good player can adapt to any position and I’d class Aaron as that certainly at this level. I personally hope we keep him but I still believe he’ll finish the window with you because Evatt vlesrly has other targets in mind.

  • As much as I like him, we should move on now, there are plenty more fish in the sea.

  • Wonder if any other player has scored the winner against the same team in consecutive games for different clubs???? 🤔

  • Good trivia question.....at least I thought so.

  • For all we know, we could be paying him minimal wages, which may have been deemed a decent gamble at the time. Seemed odd though, I agree.

  • On Morley, it further proves Evatt's ineptitude as a manager. How they could have done with Morley for the first half of the season.

Bet he secretly wishes he'd never let him go. They will hold out until the summer now, and if he is still up for sale then, we will get outbid.

  • "An aspiring young footballer signs a three year deal for minimal wages". That doesn't seem very likely.

We must have made it seem attractive to him at least.

  • Before we gave Kone a new contract, do you reckon he would have been on big wages? And Skura? And Mehmeti?

For those who like to believe in things like hope, here’s some fuel…

AARON Morley celebrated his return to Wanderers with a winning goal but admits he does not know what the future holds in the January transfer window.

The midfielder scored in stoppage time at Exeter City to seal three important points for the Whites in what was his first start for the club since last February.

Morley spent the first half of the season on loan with Wycombe, who still hope to bring him back to Adams Park in some fashion before the end of the month.

Wanderers have named their price for a permanent deal – but the Chairboys are yet to meet it, and have had one restructured loan offer rejected.

Morley wants to keep his foot down after one of the most productive spells of his career, regardless of which club he represents.

“I don’t have a clue what’s going to happen, I just want to keep my head down, keep playing football and you never know,” he said after the final whistle.

“I enjoyed my time at Wycombe but I am still a Bolton player. We just have to see what happens.”

Morley had scored the winning goal for Wycombe against Exeter on New Year’s Day, concluding what had been a successful spell in Buckinghamshire in which he played 23 times.

The 24-year-old got some ribbing on his return to Lostock on Friday but feels his time with the League One high flyers has done him well.

“I played every game, we were top two for the most of it. I have definitely benefitted from it, I am fitter and stronger and hopefully I can continue that,” he said.

“I has done me the world of good, I loved my time there. But I am back, and I want to enjoy my football.

“All the lads have been great with me, coming straight back in, backing me.

“And then for the fans singing my name after so long, it’s a great feeling.”

Morley admits he knew little about the winning goal at St James Park, a cross-shot which dropped into a crowded penalty box before bobbling into the net.

“I have to apologise to them (Exeter), I haven’t got anything against them, two winners in a few days is a great feeling.

“I actually didn’t see it drop in. there were about four people in the way and when it did go in I didn’t know if someone had got a touch to it, or if it was mine.

“It feels great. The gaffer chucked me straight in, I’m fit and I’m ready, so let’s hope we can back it up on Saturday now.”

Peterborough United have confirmed that a bid has been accepted for midfielder Joel Randall, which will see the 25-year-old leave London Road just a few months after signing a new long-term contract.

The identity of the club has not been confirmed but Wanderers had a £1.5million bid for Randall turned down in the summer and are known to be searching for an attack-minded midfielder in the January window.

Randall was left out of the Posh squad for their 1-0 defeat against Wrexham on Saturday.

  • If they are signing Randall then I believe that gives us real hope. I think it's well known that Evatt has had his sights set on targets but needed players found out the door as well in order to fund them

  • I imagine with our current moneyball approach we'll only sign Morley if it's on loan, and I can't imagine Evatt will be keen to loan a league rival a player that is so vital to them.

  • Well at the moment with Morley back we can’t sign anyone because we have reached the 22 limit so even if we have agreed a deal with Posh for Randell we can’t complete it until we make some space. We should get news on Dempsey’s injury this week and if it’s long term we’ll de register him but otherwise it means moving players out either permanently or on loan. I’m still convinced that a permanent deal will be done with you for Morley but I can’t see an extended loan. It wouldn’t bother me though if he doesn’t leave, he will make a difference to the team if he does stay but I still don’t think he’s in Evatt’s longer term plans and deep down I think Aaron knows that.
