  • I didn't want us to lose obviously, and am a bit annoyed with that performance. But, after a few minutes of reflection, I'd rather lose our unbeaten run in that game than a league match ! So, hey ho... whatever

I don't think every player is that bad - for instance, Butcher was very good for us in the second half of last season, after playing in a Plymouth side who won L1. I think he is just suffering from a lack of game time. We also know Skura can play very well in more important games than this one. Obviously GMac and Udoh are usually great.

Most of the others who started, though. Sheeeeesh.

  • When Aberdeen won the cup in 83 Alex Ferguson called their performance a disgrace.

Bloomfield should channel a bit of that tonight and give the players a kick up the arse.

By the way, I have been doing MOTM threads for cup games as of earlier this season, but I...just...can't...bring myself to with this eye bleeder.

  • Wow, that was poor. Not many if any pushed their case for starting in the first eleven. Shame the unbeaten run ended almost without a fight.

  • At least we can all move on from the winning run.... and now the unbeaten run. Its done now.

Don't need any added pressure of teams or broadcasters banging in about our unbeaten run. It's an unnecessary added pressure or expectation I'm glad we lost in the tin pot cup

  • We still have a league unbeaten run. I don't think Ravs, Low, Taylor, Grimmer, Pattenden, Harvie, Kone and Fred feel as though they have been beaten for a long time!

  • So who do you think will go? McCarthy and Wheeler 100% Taff possibly. Hanlan hopefully but unlikely

  • The above-mentioned commentator is going to go ballistic when he realizes that it is a night of absolute giant killings, with Bradford beating Stockport, Cheltenham beating Cambridge and Chesterfield beating Wigan, in addition to our incredible result.

    What a night of drama!

  • It’s a pity when games like that happen. Players didn’t want to be there, fans barely engaged before, fans totally disengaged after. It was lose lose all round. I suspect some players know their future is not in a blue shirt and it’s a shame that their swan song was that.

  • Perhaps this will simply give us the right level of urgency in January, similar to what others have said above.

It was nice to have a day at Wembley last season, but no one would miss that competition if it got binned - and that's one of the solutions to the international postponement problem imo.

  • ‘Nothing to see here’

All winning runs have to end. The longer they endure the more onerous holding onto the run becomes. It’s now confined to history as is this Mickey Mouse comp. We regather, win the league matches that matter, push for promotion. Oh and we know that some ins and outs in Jan are probable.

    Onwards.

  • The solution is to play EFL Trophy matches on international weekends.

  • Mate..... you crack me up 🤣

Still my favourite gasroom poster by far

  • Was going to say it was a sluggish, lethargic performance but I could barely be bothered to switch the channel over to watch so I guess that sums it up.

The likes of Wheeler, Butcher, Taf,Skura, Hanlan showing why they aren't starters. McCarthy's final Wycombe game I'd think.

I think Hanlan will rehab with us again but leave once healthy.

    McCarthy is gone, surely.

Taff will be kept for backup unless we land an absolute coup in January (and keep Taylor).

Wheeler should go, as he is still plenty talented enough for many teams in this division, but not for us.

  • Buck up folks, players no-one thinks will be here much longer lost a game in a cup no-one likes, none of our first team got injured and it's not going to put the fans who didn't go in their droves off from the next home game. (Unless you brought your mate/kids/boss who say they never want to come again!)

    Our poor run ends here.🙂

    * I admit I didn't see the game

  • GA targets should include McCarthy and Wheeler. They would do a job there. He won't go for Taff owing to the injuries.

If he is getting the band back together, bring Samuel back down from Ross County, as long as he has someone who can take the freekicks Alex would win in the channels! Samuel would actually fit what Shrewsbury need to do to scramble to safety.

  • Personally I'm really disappointed at losing that and the performance. It might be a good thing in the long run, but it could also count against us later in the season if we need to rely on players who perhaps haven't played any competive matches for a while.

With the exception of Lubala who was lively when he came on, I don't think anyone has done themselves any favours there. I suspect a few will need loans now. Skura who looked so good earlier this season, looked horribly rusty tonight. He'll surely need to get some games somewhere.

On the plus side, it frees us up to enter the B&B!

  • We’ve taken another step towards seeing whose wages can be used to bring Morley in permanently.

  • We wouldn't have been able to defend the trophy next season anyway

People are forgetting we are going to win the FA Cup, too. That's six more matches.

Edit: Not that I would want this lineup anywhere near the cup!

  • Extracted ourselves from a pointless competition, increasing our chances of winning the FA Cup, whilst arrogantly scoring at the end to maintain scoring in every game.

    Excellent night's work.

  • Terrible match, I fell asleep watching it on TV.

  • we were always due a poor game at some point & lets hope it was this one...would rather we played like pish in the tinpot than in the league.

To be fair to the players brought in they probably had one training session as a team so to bemoan the strenght in depth is a little harsh.

Bishop is coming back from injury & was stuck behind a makeshift defence that will have hardly if ever played together, having said that he filled me with a lot less confidence than either Rav or George, so am unsure why we would or if we will hold onto him come 1/1/25.

Skura is a solid prospect who has performed well when in between 2 experienced defenders who can talk him through the game. Woodhouse has played consistently well for The Daggers & whilst probably isnt yet ready for L1 is definitely not far off. neither were helped by having two very rusty & frankly lethargic players (McCarthy & Taf) alongside them today.

As for the others Bakinson is solid & is probably 4th choice CM after Scowen, Morley & Humphries: Leahy is a bench player at best, Butcher is a huge concern as he looked so good last season & yet his form appears to have nose dived off a cliff - the coaches need to figure out how to get him reinvigorated. Wheels is a legend and model pro but is very rusty & a bit off the pace, I cannot see out of our first choice 18 who you would leave out to accomodate him.

The forwards are all pretty decent, MB needs to just figure out the combinations that do & dont work especially given his propensity to often rotate them heavily.

I think on today's evidence unless we have an illness or injury crisis of immense proportions I struggle to see either McCarthy or Taf playing in the quarters again.

  • Not a great spectacle tonight. Lost the battle in the centre of park first half which set the tone for most of the evening.

Actually think there was only one good individual performance tonight and that was from Taff - watched him closely tonight and he was good and should be our back up centre half. Don’t think too many of the other current fringe players did themselves any favours but saying that neither did the few that normally start.

Hopefully get back on track this weekend!
