Game in doubt?
Has a game ever been postponed due to high winds?
Had a little look yesterday after the weather warnings and thought to myself i wonder at what point would a game be unplayable with high winds. Is there a set limit? Can't imagine premier teams would have any issues with their bowl like stadiums but with Adams park being quite open is there any danger of am abandonment during the game?

As far as I can see the wind is expected to reach 20mph. Dangerous wind speeds are in excess of 40mph. So other than it being a windy day tomorrow there shouldn’t be any other problems.
Looks like we'll be fine, although I can see games in other parts of the country being called off.
Up here in Manchester I think games could go - we've got gusts up to 56mph, and my XC race has been cancelled
The face painting at the game tomorrow is already off.

Queens Park Rangers at Adams Park in March 2004 is one of the only games I can remember being spoiled by strong winds.
It was of course also memorable for Matt Bloomfield's first ever Wycombe Wanderers goal.
This is what I found on the BBC just now for High Wycombe - I believe the wind speeds are the highs during gusts. Am I right in thinking that the wind direction would be across the car park, over the Origen Stand and from side to side across the pitch to the Frank Adams.
That match was exactly my first thought. I immediately fished out the highlights as I recall their second goal being massively impacted by the wind...didn't look anywhere near as wind affected as I remembered it
Only game I can remember being called off for high winds was a Celtic game about 25 years ago because of guttering that had become loose and posed a danger.

I tend to avoid xc races as a rule but one locally is said to be at risk too down here
I think the only way this gets postponed is due to the risk of flying objects from the stands, advertising hoardings etc. I wouldn;t think it would go for the impact on the ball whilst in play.
Although, if we get a huge amount of rain, it might make the surface unplayable

Make No mistake 50s are very windy. Today as a comparison is lower than 10
From Met Office, with 'mean' and 'gust' wind speeds. 'Feels like' is 0 degrees.
Keen would be an understatement if you asked most of my friends and family! I do love it. It’s the risk to gazebos that is the main reason they’ve cancelled actually

With all the rain and storms we’ve had over the past few weeks do the trees behind the Frank Adams get checked regularly? If one of those came down towards the ground that could be very nasty.
A race down here was called off for exactly that reason a few weeks ago too.

I've always found the Valley Terrace to be particularly windy. Especially during the Boxing Day game

Info I saw had now refreshed to gusts of 50mph. 50mph is only the starting point for any danger so still hopeful that it will not cause any major impact - other than preventing any fairweathers from coming.
Weather is a powerful clickbait technique for media organisations nowadays. Snow-bombs, Arctic Blasts etc are all the rage online. Accordingly, the BBC now promotes ‘gusts’ to grab attention.
Pretty certain that you’ll get a match every season that’s similarly windy. I can’t remember when exactly but there was a game at AP where the wind was blowing straight down the pitch and the away fans on the old terrace were lined-up against the back wall, trying to stay dry.
