Let’s get back to Aaron Morley. Far more interesting. I cannot see Bolton not recalling him in January or saying if we want him , it’s going to cost x. Not sure we would pay what Bolton would require but other teams might. It will be a massive blow if he left because he has made a significant difference to the team and he seems to embrace everything about Wycombe. His celebration to Leahy’s goal against Mansfield is priceless.
His last game for us will be away against Charlton.
We should not be paying a huge fee for any player even if we have an exceptionally wealthy owner. We’ve already proved with good connections and recruitment we can pick up excellent players on loans or frees.
He will be a great loss, let’s hope Scowen is back playing by then otherwise we will be very light in midfield
The funny thing is, if we lose Morley I am going to have a sense of sadness, obviously - but also excitement as to who we get in to replace him! We are so good at recruitment currently.
We can, but it's a no-brainer to make this a permanent deal. He'd be right at home in the Championship. Again, we have a billionaire owner - we're not on a shoestring anymore!
My stance is this: if Matt Bloomfield thinks we should buy Morley, I agree. If he thinks that we shouldn’t, I also agree. If he wants too and we can’t do a deal, then that’s football
I would love to see us make Morley a permanent signing, I am sure he would like that too; but & it is a big but, the seller sets the price & I suspect Bolton will ask more than our management team think he is worth.
The problem is we do not know how much Bolton value him and how much that equates to in terms of a purchase price. FWIW I would be incredibly surprised if we valued him at much more than £250-300k plus some modest extras based on appearances etc.
The fee won't necessarily even be the deal-breaker. We didn't pay a fee for Fred but must be paying him a serious amount in wages - you don't drop down two divisions otherwise.
I think with Fred it’s more that there wasn’t a great deal on the table from higher up the pyramid, for whatever reason. He was reportedly on trial with Stoke and that clearly didn’t work out. We were the benefactors but surely he would have gone elsewhere had he been offered something in the Championship.
I suspect £500,000 plus would be needed, that to me seems reckless when it’s club money, not Mikhails money, unless of course he’s gifting it to the club.
I’m already nervous at the huge wage bill compared to our turnover.
According to transfermarkt.co.uk, Morley has a current value of £900k, although I'm not sure how they calculate that.
But I'm quite sure that Blooms, Dan Rice and the money men have already anticipated a possible recall to Bolton in January, and have a number in mind that they would offer to buy out his contract, if he is deemed essential to the squad,
We are looking at it as fans, from an emotive perspective. On that basis, I would love to have someone else gift us £500k to buy him.
But I’m sure the club will be looking at this from a data perspective. What is the value to the club of having Morley on the team vs an alternative (I.e. new loanee with different qualities). What points differential would that expected to make compared to an alternative? What would those points mean in terms of finishing positions? Prize money? Promotion? In short, what would the potential return be upon that £500k compared to investing it elsewhere.
Personally I prefer to stay as a fan and make irrational, emotive decisions on players that will change week on week
The only reason morley will be recalled is purely to disrupt our season , unlikely he will be going straight in their team and unlikely they will overtake us. I think we should buy him he is a proven player not a gamble. Considering the cost of the level of back room staff at the moment I think the odd purchase it sensible . I do not want us to be one of those clubs who throw money at players however there are exceptions.
Think Morely offers something we maybe haven't ever quite seen, can't think of anyone who sits back and picks a pass like that since maybe Rob Lee but also loads of interceptions, set pieces, short passes and general encouragement for the younger squad members. Only Dan Rice, ML and his representatives know what the plan is financially and wether an extra signing or two and a real promotion push helps them get where they want us to be.
Sounds like the press up there want to antagonise Evatt by constantly asking him and reminding him that one of their discarded players is ripping it up here but at the same time he could either get them going better without him before the transfer window opens or be out on his arse.

If you can’t tell the difference between sometimes being a dick and bullying someone with literal legal threats then that’s on you.
Whoa, this thread took the wrong turn rather abruptly.
I wonder if Dan Rice has been to Penn recently.
I thought both were out of order, because I don't think abuse is ever justified, which is a major part of my point. Do you believe otherwise?
I believe there is value in making distinctions between things that are different from each other.

I'll have to agree to disagree when it comes to mistreatment of other humans.

If we're serious about promotion then I think we'd absolutely bonkers not to try and sign him. Why on earth wouldn't we?!
I don't doubt that we'd find a suitable alternative, but every player has his price and we should be making him our number 1 priority in Jan.
Chas or Bargey?
Can we not be serious about promotion without paying a huge fee.
We could loan in two centre mids, a left back and a centre back for the rest of the season for what it would cost to buy Morley.

Do we know that Blooms has full control over recruitment?

If that is your case then why on earth would we buy Morley when we could afford someone with a much better pedigree.
Someone like Gabriel Sigua from Mikhail's home country could be secured on loan as he’s not playing much for Basel. This is just an example.
Personally I would prefer we spend on depth of squad, not on huge transfer fees. We have the management to get the most out of our squad.
A first world problem, after we’ve had so many years with third world issues.
There's clearly a limit to what would be sensible, but a few hundred thousand for Morley would hardly be reckless.

I think all the loanees will stay myself. (But I did also predict the Lincoln and Mansfield games would be draws)

Have you ever bought a newspaper/magazine? Why should work be given away for free online?
We've never had more options in midfield.
Bakinson, Butcher, Leahy and Wheeler can all come in.
We'd just have to tweak the way of playing.
