I think this is really interesting because until recently I probably held the same view as you.
I am starting to question this perspective, perhaps as a consequence of the Aaron Morley situation.
Given our current owner’s wealth, he’s expected to shell out half-a-million on one player. I don’t think we’ve seen this level of demand / expectation before.
It’s partly as a result of our outstanding performances and results this season. Aided by the outstanding performances of Aaron Morley himself.
Why should an owner be expected to spend their own money though? Would the same have been expected of Rob Couhig or Steve Hayes?
Is that expectation reasonable? If so, how much should they be expected to spend? Does it depend on an individual’s wealth?
I’d be a bit put out if someone told me to buy some new curtains because I’d come into some money.
It was only a matter of time before the "get your chequebook/Kazakh digital banking platform out" posts would break out the moment a player could be ours for an unspecified large amount of money. It's not limited to Wycombe Wanderers fans, generally fans have the opinion that when someone richer than god takes over a club, that the club basically control their current account. Or that they can liquidate assets from relatively cash-poor high-value individuals at the drop of a hat.
As much as I love watching Aaron Morley play for us, we could seriously have our trousers pulled down by Bolton if we have the attitude some people on social media have towards WWFC spending money that we don't have. All of which would need to be covered by a(n additional) capital injection before the next SCMP year.
I must admit I prefer the competing at the top of the table with teams splashing the cash thing more than the 'Come on, ML, get the chequebook open and secure The Player to deliver promotion' thing.
Not enough to pay for the subscription with no ads though?
No love for big corps paying to dominate the market and then using that position to fleece people but why would we expect it all to be free? From either those creating content or those hosting.
I doubt even the good doctor would want to keep this place free at his own expense after we win the Champions League and half of China is logging on daily to say how far they are from Shenzhen and make cheese puns in a language we need Google to translate .
I wouldn’t pay for a subscription out of principle (it’s the internet, all hail Tim Berners-Lee) but even more out of spite following their insidious advertising, deliberately designed to coerce money from saps.
@drcongo has more class than to charge a subscription.
That's the internet. People seem to remember it as Bargey bad guy, Chas good guy. But forget Bargey didn't just meltdown over nothing, he was prodded to oblivion first.
It's always interesting seeing the different approaches people take to conflict. Some seem to need to battle it to the death, when the healthier option is simply not to waste time engaging.
To be fair to @bargepole he takes most of the ribbing in good stead, something @ChasHarps rarely did, also the former I find, as often as not, has his tongue firmly planted in his cheek and willingly appears to set himself up.
I fell out with @ChasHarps due to his constant "I'm more working class than you" & "I'm a purer socialist than you" schtik, it reminded me far to much of the ludicrous policy purity spirals of my time in CPGB back in my late teens/early 20s.

As much as I want to see Aaron stay with us, I feel he will be heading back to Bolton in January. They would be mad not to recall the lad.
I take from that that Morley is signing permanently with Wycombe and Evatt is merely trying to drive the price up.
"It doesn't happen in any other walk of life"
That could go for any number of things in football, to be fair!
He’s not going to stay on loan - it’ll either be a recall or a permanent signing for a Wycombe record fee
They will be mad to let him stay on loan. At the very least take him back and loan him to someone who’s not a threat to them
It's not weird at all. If you've bought a football team, then the expectation/ norm is to use your money to buy players. That's the job
Also, ML is a billionaire. I'm not going to feel bad about urging a billionaire to put their hand in their pocket.
As long as that spend isn't loaded as debt against the club.
Much as l love Aaron paying big fees is still odd to me

Is this another symptom of my increasing age?
Amen brother!

This 500k figure. Is that actually known to be an asking price or is an unusual lower league player who has a release clause?
Or has someone just decided that's the magic figure?
The entire advertising industry is people telling you to spend your money on this or that!
I don’t think clubs tend to make their asking price for players public as a rule.
I possess an increasingly visceral hatred of advertising, especially on YouTube.
I agree with you there, with every day that passes they annoy me more

Prime are the worst at the moment. Splicing commercial breaks into a movie I paid to watch on a service I already subscribe to.

What would Gasroom Premium look like?
You’re reading it @flymofrank
You get @ChasHarps instead of @bargepole
Seems a bit needlessly personal.

Yes, the usual moral hypocrisy. "It's only abuse to take offence to if I like the person being abused."
Chas was probably the most abusive person ever on here, not just to Bargey but to others. Yet he is held up like some beacon of wonderful behaviour.
I definitely tune people out as worth listening to if they have two different measures for the same behavior.
