Even my junction on the M6 being closed couldn’t put a dampener on the mood! Superb evening out, exciting football, and at no point did I feel we wouldn’t win the game (except when they had those two late corners). What a squad, Blooms is doing an unbelievable job and we’ve got a fun 35 games to come, that is for sure.
Not sure about the criticism of Ravazoli for the 2nd Burton goal. For Peterborough's goal on Saturday he did seem poorly positioned to my untrained eye neither staying on his line, or coming out to claim the cross that travelled a long way. Last night however was a ball fizzed over at pace from the corner of the 6 yard box. No chance he can come out and claim that surely? In fairness to Burton, I thought they scored 2 very good goals, don't think there was much any keeper could've done about either.
With 2 cup games coming up, I'm sure the George will get his chance to impress. I think changing a keeper in the run we're having would be somewhat rash.
He was not at fault for the second in my opinion. Great strike, going through bodies, he can't have seen it til it was too late. Where he does seem weak is crosses coming through the six yard box. I would love him to be more commanding with crosses and I am not sure how this impacts defenders around him.
Absolutely no chance Rav was at fault for the second Burton. Super strike through a crowd of players. I agree he is not commanding in his six yard box , putting extra pressure on Taylor and Low to clear almost everything. While this unbeaten run continues, cannot see him being replaced. The two cup games gives Bloomfield an opportunity to see what George can deliver.
We do look vulnerable to balls going across our box, which is not just the goalkeeper's responsibility of course
His feet do get planted a bit though. There was that shot from Peterborough's right hand side that he watched, feet unmoving right over his head and onto his right upright and away. Would have been a similar goal to the one he let in against them at Wembley
I remain unconvinced, but I am assured his "underlying numbers" are very good
I do feel that Rav is becoming a Ryan Allsop figure among the fans (I am not discounting myself form this). Nothing suggests he does anything wrong in terms of results but ....
Keepers are - fairly or otherwise - ripe for criticism given their mistakes tend to me more costly than other players'.
Scott Shearer used to come in for a lot of flak (the 'Shakin' Shearer' tag still sticks to his name for some) but he was voted into the PFA team of the year and we got promoted with him in goal.
The pay off for being so exciting going forward this season is we'll be more open at the back, unless we break the bank to bring in more new players. And we know where that road leads.
Burton manager Mark Robinson is on a 31 match winless run in the EFL. 20 with Wimbledon and 11 with Burton. In between he was Head of Development at Chelsea.
The most enjoyable thing with last night, was how we went there as an in-form team against an out-of-form team, and delivered. We all saw it as a banana skin, but the team didn't play like that crossed their mind.
They were wasteful and rickety at the back, but never let Burton's equalisers knock them, and never looked like settling for a draw.
The one at 3-1 from Collins? That was a great effort that would have required the save of the century to stop it if it had crept an inch or two inside the post.
The goal conceded to Burrows at Wembley was at best a speculative hit and hope (more likely a mishit cross) that Ravizzoli didn't react to quickly enough to.
To the untrained eye of a terrace moaner like me he doesn't have the appear to have the presence of a keeper that inspires confidence, but he's been solid for us, distribution is generally fine and pulls off big saves for us when called upon. You get the impression he's going to have drop a serious clanger in order for Blooms to even consider dropping him.
I thought he was an interesting appointment for new owners intent on developing young players and the playing style. I recall that he had a load of draws in the latter stages of his Wimbledon tenure, where he also brought through good young players like Rudoni and Assal, but the Dons' slide wasn't halted when he was replaced.
It seems like the Burton owners have just lost their nerve, faced with the reality of being winless and bottom of the league. Easy to take a jaundiced view, but Robinson always seemed like a decent guy with a lot to offer. Maybe not in first team management, though.
Martin Taylor is easily the best keeper we have ever had, so a hell of a level for Rav to reach. Barnsley's recent late equaliser came at the end of a sequence of corners which came straight across the 6 yard box, none of which Rav got anywhere near. However they were all great corners, driven in with pace. I guess keepers who are great in all aspects generally aren’t playing in L1. I like him though, at only 27 he can be developed.
We know only too well how difficult it can be too integrate 7 or 8 late arrivals into a team, Robinson had to accommodate an entire new squad of 24 players. To give him such little time is madness.
Commanding his box he's very static, I feel nervous when balls are whipped across. I haven't seen him pull off any amazing worldie saves as yet but he does seem to position himself well for reflex blocks (Saturday the double against posh).
Keepers are always open to criticism, I remember Blackman getting roasted too. He absolutely commanded the box and claimed everything that came in, I can remember feeling almost sure he'd claim the ball from any corner etc.
We don't see what happens in training daily so I'm sure there's a lot more to it and if we keep outscoring the opposition it makes for great viewing.
Martin Taylor accidentally ripped my autograph book when I was touring the changing room as an 11 year old, and then pretended nothing happened. I was too in awe to be annoyed about it.

Surprised that Udoh seems to have been given the third goal by most outlets last night.
From behind the goal it was obvious that Sweeney hammered it in and Udoh didn't get close to a touch on it
I judge a keeper on how nervous he makes me feel. Rav still has me on edge.
