I think it could be a really good fit. Loves punching above his weight on a relatively small budget and there are plenty of teams above them, not to mention the big 2. Could poach Obita from their rivals and get in Alex Samuel as a backup striker- get the band back together north of the border. OK those last 2 are unlikely to happen, but who wouldn't want to test themselves in Europe- he might never get that chance? We'll all be routing for him wherever he goes...unless its Franchise, Poxford, horse punchers, Slough or bedsheets fc
I did wonder whether he was hanging around waiting for the Reading job, location wise It couldn't be any better for him. As long as they keep going of course. But if their manager was to finally have enough and walk, he'd probably be seen as a cheaper option, and he'd probably definitely be up for the challenge
Hearts are evidently going to use Tony Blooms' analytics firm in the search. I would be a little surprised if GA's name is landed on by that particular spinning wheel, given how Brighton operate.
Does anyone else find it unusual that GA publicly talked about why he would like the Hearts job? I can't remember a management candidate doing that very often.
Quite the turnaround too, I think we'd barely won a game in months before the turn of the year. Remember the atmosphere getting quite dark away at Orient, would have been easy for Rob to have sacked Blooms, plenty people were calling for it.
It is, but… can we really say ‘a club our size’ when we are owned by a billionaire and signing a player who was playing in the Premier League last season.
We're not really splashing cash compared to the likes of Birmingham, Wrexham, or even Peterborough, Charlton, Huddersfield or Bolton who've paid out approx. £1m or more in transfer fees.
We haven’t been spending any real headline amounts on individual players but looking at the quality and equally important depth of our squad, our owner has certainly put his hand in his considerable pockets to fund it. It would be interesting to see how high up League 1 we are in wage bills. Complete guess, top 10?
One thing that Ainsworth and Bloomfield have in common is that they have signed players will the right mindset and right character. We don't have any "big-time Charlie's" or Individuals, every single player is there to support, develop, help and work together throughout the season and both managers have done amazing in getting the right players in for us.
If / When we start spending big, I do wonder if we'll still look for the "right characters" or if we will sign players, make them the face of the club and expect them to perform week-in week-out?
Yes, Hopefully that all remains, I just meant that we could probably spend significantly less than those clubs mentioned and still be overspending our income/ size etc relative to other teams in the division. Not a concern really, just a comparison.
Given they have reputedly spent millions on Stansfield and Alfie May is on 16 grand a week...it will be amusing for City to stay down here another season.
Bayo managed to be both the face of the club, a regular top performer and exactly the right kind of character to have at the club, especially when it came to being a role model for younger players.

He can't be that desperate if it's right he turned down the Stoke job, most out of work managers would jump at the chance of a Championship job.
Aren't Hearts in Europe ? Would be good on his CV whatever happens managing in a Euro competition

'Probably Definitely', the new album by Oasis released 14 Feb 2025.
I don't think having 'Frontman in The Cold Blooded Hearts' on his CV is going to make much of an impression up there.
Well at least his heart will be colder.
Can’t believe Ainsworth turned down Stoke. Not sure he was offered the job.
If he should move to Scotland that is.

Can’t see it happening.

Perhaps because the phone hasn’t been ringing since the sacking from QPR , so he feels he needs to be proactive.
Yes, I understand him applying on that front, but it just seems unusual to also do an interview on his application.
I don't think he'll get it, given the type of manager Brighton's analytics tend to point to.
That’s truly remarkable.
What @micra said. Wow

That's amazing.
Hats off and congratulations to Matt, his team and the squad, a truly unbelievable stat for a club our size in League One.

Our income/ gates will be significantly lower than those other clubs too.
No longer as relevant of course as the culture, ethos and traditions of the club which are, happily, so far being respected.
While home attendances hovering around 4000, yes.

I saw a chart that said 12th, but I have no idea how anyone could know that with certainty.
