  • I agree I think we should be okay.

I think we just played the champions and Wrexham should be up there too.

No need for the panic button yet.

  • Btw did anyone else see the mirror in the city end.

  • Been a very tough start against a Wrexham bang up for it, and the side everyone predicts as Champions.

Remember the days just a few years ago when we'd score in the 91st min, and be certain we'd do it again before the final whistle?

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Bishop? So far I’m a little underwhelmed, maybe it’s down to the opposition we’ve played , but I’ve not really seen him make a save.

  • Laird at RB we never got to grips with first half. Best player on the pitch for me.

Grimmer MOM? Been a great player for us, but badly at fault for the third goal, and that's back to back games we have conceded 3 goals now. Maybe Sadlier for assisting both goals?!

Harvie won't want to watch that first goal back.

  • yet we spent nothing at all even with new rich owners funny that

  • Money has been spent on Dan Harvie and a loan fee for Nathan Bishop.

  • Watching those 3 goals conceded and it just gets worse. So soft.

  • Did both sides make a "concussion substitution" today which is what allowed them to make six changes each? And if so was it Josh who was concussed for us?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/c8dp4m6z55nt#Line-ups

  • Willumsson was concussed. As a result both sides were allowed to make six subs.

  • Unbelievable that we've waited 2 seasons to wait until we play to Sir Sam Vokes strengths, then he scores 2 in 2 ..... when he only comes on for the last 5 minutes ..... bet he's gutted

  • He is already going to be tough to catch for goals per 90!

  • Loved the expression tospots fans. How I wish we could pass the ball like they did. Wycombe till I die.

  • No shame in those two performances.

Scored lots of goals, looked sound defensively - conceded against the leagues’ biggest spenders

It’s going to be an exciting season. Fuck the bed wetters.

  • Many individual moments of class in a hectic game but Grimmer’s clearance off the line was magnificent.

  • Quite happy overall.

Birmingham look too good for this level and will surely go up automatically.

Enjoyed our high press and on another day we could have got a result. Possibly even won. On balance of chance it was close, and even if they had 80% of the ball.

Sadlier looks like he could have a great season. Seems a yard faster and fitter than last season. Good to see him play the 90. Fantastic player.

Pleased to see Vokes get 2 in 2. He can make a big contribution, especially if we keep delivering decent crosses.

This is a million miles from the lacklustre start to last season. I think we'll be mid table by the end of Sept.

  • I mentioned before Hartridge's red that I do think we are short of a back up CB. A ban or injury to any to of the respective 3, we'd be in trouble.

I think we are missing an attacking playmaker. I'd like to see Dale Taylor back - he's still at Forest not getting a look in. When he dropped deeper last season, he looked a real player.

I think Vokes has earned a start next game too?

  • Mixed emotions after that, in reality didn't expect much before the game but going 1 up and conceding a cheap goal was frustrating.

2 weeks on the run we've left when the opposition has gone 3-1 up and missed Vokes both goals.

Long day, left at 9am and not long back, but the kids enjoyed it and had a couple of goes of kicking the ball through the holes on the inflatable outside the ground.

One thing I didn't enjoy was the only lagers available was Rebellion lager or Carlsberg. Went for the Rebellion one and it wasnt the best or worth £6 either. Sure I got Amstel last season.

  • I’d love to experiment with Vokes and Udoh on Tuesday.

  • We definitely need a pool of 4 specialist centre backs I think. Grimmer and even McCarthy have filled in there, but it's such a key role.

Not sure about D Taylor himself, but again definitely agree we need a specialist there. That or fielding a 2nd striker. We've a stack of attackers now, so you wonder how we'll field them all otherwise.

  • Shout out to Bakinson too - he had a nice pass to set up that Sadlier miss, and I thought his later shot was going in if not blocked - I think by one of our own players.

In the Bakinson-Harvie-Hartridge derby for disappointing starts, I think Bakinson has shown himself most likely to pull himself into the positive. I thought Harvie was very poor today, sadly.

  • I think there is a strong shout for sticking Leahy back at LB and having Harvie be his understudy, too.

    Bishop

Grimmer Low Taffs (or good backup CB if injured) Leahy

    Butcher Scowen Magic #10

    Sadlier Kone/Udoh McCleary

That is a good starting 11.

Rebellion bitter is nice, their lager is not the best. £6 is another hike over last year.

  • Yes, I think I actually prefer Leahy at left back as despite being Shrewsbury's captain or player of the year or both or whatever it was, I'm not sure he actually looks that good there too often.

From left back he can deliver, take set pieces and have more time on the ball to pick a pass.

With Scowen an absolute no question starter, I'd probably say Butcher is next in line, and as per today, the 3 of them together doesn't look quite right.

  • Totally agree. Scowen needs to be a DM, too. It never looks right having him pushed forward when he is possibly the best in the division as a round peg in a round hole. Butcher is a proper 8, for me, who has enough flexibility to also play the 10 here and there as a backup or if a formation change requires it.

  • What is Lubala's natural position? Is he an wide AM or a CF? Perhaps he could operate in the CAM role?

  • Distribution rather diagonal but otherwise extremely effective

Good question and hopefully we have an option within the building already!

For some games we can try 2 up top, but I'm not sure we'll do that too often.

Kone and Vokes would benefit from playing in a 2, albeit maybe not together. But Udoh, Hanlan and Lubala offer options to pair with them. Although arguably Hanlan's best work was wide left.

Wondering how Wheeler fits in with all of this too. He did have a good spell wide right, but that was maybe in our more agricultural Ainsworth days.
