@frequentstander I think also think GA can get a league 1 job because that is where he is proven. Essential to line up with his style though.
If the opportunity doesn’t come soon though, does he drop down a division to make sure he stays in the picture? Not ideal to stay out of football for too long.
We were relegated. Ainsworth did a fantastic job with us which I will always be grateful but not sure he has the skills or tactical nouse to manage at a bigger club or at Championship level.
We relegated by the skin of our teeth, on one of the smallest budgets in Championship history, below a team who should have gone down in our place. QPR was the wrong fit more than anything.
We were absolutely pants until we played a bunch of mid table sides who were on the beach with nothing to play for at the end of the season & in front of no crowds
For sure it was a wrong fit, but I don’t really think it’s the full story. Good managers adapt and make the best use of what they have been given. Going into QPR, and insisting on a complete 360 from the previous style of play in the last third of a season is not only highly risky, but poor decision making. Do it in the summer by all means and buy yourself some time. A manager lives and dies by his decisions. But I’m sure he’s better for the experience.
I couldn’t give a flying fuck about Queens Park Rangers. Gareth Ainsworth led Wycombe Wanderers to the second tier of English football. I never thought I’d ever see my team play at that level. My first ever game was in the Isthmian League Premier Division. He made our wildest dreams come true. He gave us that truly magical moment, together with so many other magical moments.
I couldn’t give a flying fuck about style of play or any other irrelevant bollocks. Gareth Ainsworth will forever be remembered as one of our greatest ever managers.
You that Millwall guy Gaz elbowed a couple of times?
Every post you make is revelling in QPR temporarily not having a circus of a set up and sneering at Wycombe's best ever manager (I won't say "our" as there's no evidence you're a Wycombe fan)
Avid reader of the Gasroom but don’t always post. I’m sure there are many others who do the same.
The GA topic is quite current given its end of season and time to reflect. But it’s clear that some can’t handle a sensible debate.
I’ve also written about finances and Couhig prior, but that doesn’t fit your own agenda that wishes to place me into a bucket to suit your own narrative. Ironic that.
@HitAndHope As an observation, you are (in my opinion) playing a very repetitive single note on this topic.
Clearly GA didn’t succeed at QPR and the new manager has but I seem to recollect GAs record wasn’t that much worse than the manager before him.
Whether you mean to or not your tone is somewhat snooty towards both GA and your perception of the style of football he wants his team’s to play.
Summarising, your argument seems to be that GA is a manager wedded to long ball, ‘hit and hope’ football, incapable of changing and would only be of interest to chairs of football clubs (below Championship level) who aren’t too fussed about whether their teams play ‘pretty’ football.
There is a kernel of truth in there but it is surprisingly narrow-minded and somewhat disrespectful to a lot of the players we had during GA’s tenure.
Two examples: Sam Saunders and Eze. Would a cultured midfielder of Saunders class have joined a team where the object was just to lump it forwards?
And developing and improving a player of Eze’s potential shows evidence that GA (and his coaching team) can work with skilful players.
You are more than welcome to your opinions on GAs capabilities and future prospects, but don’t clutch your pearls quite so tightly when you are challenged on your seeming ‘agenda’ by the generally articulate and intelligent inhabitants of the Gasroom.

Never mind all this old bollocks
So what's the interesting opportunity ? Or are we all supposed to be guessing ?
The data back a couple of months ago would have been very similar. Cifuentes has been given time, Ainsworth wasn’t.

Some are saying that Stevenage are going to let interim manager Alex Revell have the job on a permanent basis.
That’s not true though.
GA had 27 games in total, at 0.70 PPG average.
Cifuentes has had 31 games in total, at 1.4 PPG average.
Which is exactly double, over a very similar amount of games.
The evidence is clear. Ainsworth was not up to the job at that level.
Except he was up to the job at that level with us

You've made your point
If people are engaging on a post then one has the right to reply and engage back. That’s what a forum is for.
And what gives you the right to police a topic?

This. All of this.
Ultimately, Arsenal fans rightfully see Tony Adams as a club legend. Wycombe rightfully do not. We all move on.

It tends to be labelled as an "agenda" when a poster seemingly posts about nothing else the whole time.
Like when one of our players was having a terrible time, and one poster insisted he was brilliant (turned out to be his brother)
Or the whole anti-trust posts from people who weren't voted on.
There was always a tiny minority of our fanbase who were against GA. It’s weird they can’t give it up over a year after he’s gone.

I've not waded through your whole back catalogue, but I and everyone else has got the gist now.
You think Ainsworth did a bad job at QPR.
We get it.
Another one from the high and mighty self-appointed messageboard police. If you don’t like the topic, simply don’t read it or engage on it.
We won 8 games from Feb onwards.
Huddersfield and Rotherham had a relegation battle on their hands
Reading and Bournemouth were battling for playoffs
4 others ended midtable - not sure where they were at the time.
Seems a decent spread to me?
Not sure "No crowds" is a stick to beat us up with either.

I think this was AAH 1.0 and his dad
@HitAndHope would you agree that Gareth Ainsworth is Wycombe’s greatest ever managers?
I was more referring to the defender whose name escapes me. Went onto play for Maidenhead, and his brother posted.
This is like calling a Emery a shit manager purely on his time at Arsenal
Will De Havilland?
That's the one.
