My point being that there's nothing in covering Stockport for national media outlets - it wouldn't get the engagement. That's the way it is, rightly or wrongly.
Others may interpret it differently, but Accrington raised prices 5 pounds for the Wrexham game, and Wrexham publicly responded by making a big show of dropping the ticket prices five pounds for the reverse fixture, in a very passive aggressive manner from the official twitter. All Wrexham fans on the thread were saying "this just shows why we are the greatest club ever" while most neutral fans saw it as grand standing over a small club who are living hand to mouth. You can take it either way, but it seemed like a wealthy man getting out of his limo to wave fans of hundreds in the face of a homeless man to me.
Wait, so Accy squeezed extra money out of a load of not-billionaire Wrexham fans during a cost of living crisis, Wrexham put that money back in the fans' pockets, and Wrexham are the bad guys? You've been living in the land of the not free and the home of the profit too long mate.
Spot on @drcongo , they did nothing wrong and tried to correct an injustice as far as I can see. Good on Wrexham.
We should be applauding that move instead of trying to find fault just because they have investors who really want success for their club, no different to Mr Couhig really.
You can see it either way. It was divisive at the time, and I can understand both perspectives, but it came across as massively passive aggressive. "Oh, you are going to lose us five pounds per head? We'll just deliberately lose ourselves an extra fiver a head again, because we have more money than you anyway." That was the general spirit of it.
I think the messaging matters, and it did not come off as "We understand the difficulty of staying afloat, and want to make a further gesture."
I have often wondered.what goes through the minds of the mega-rich. For me with my net assets less than £1m and my yearly stipend in five figures I see a sum like £500m and I think yeah, I couldn't afford to bankroll Derby year-on-year, but I could easily solve my mess and see creditors right and still have more money than I could ever spend. Clearly this is not rich man thinking though, something usually prevents them from paying their own way.
I agree (and if this was an Accrington thread maybe the focus would be on that), but I think how someone responds is telling. I think the classy move would have been to simply note their protest in a professional manner. Waving money in the air to show you don't miss it anyway seems a little juvenile. I know not everyone will see it that way, but it's hard to find an actual mature motive for it.
They also increased the prices for home fans for the game, this was decided months in advance due to the high demand and huge police presence required for the travelling fans.
Very simple supply/demand and costs decision. Much like the huge lowering of prices when demand is low and costs low. EFL Trophy being the obvious example.
The decision by Wrexham to tweet the lowering of prices for the return fixture on the morning of the game at Accrington was a two finger salute to a smaller, less fortunate club. Reynolds immediately retweeted that Wrexham tweet to his millions of followers, again a fuck off to the paupers we play this afternoon.
When Americans talk about living in a classless society this is not what they mean, but I am thinking 'yes, many of you lack class'. Rob Couhig is a little less demonstrable than Ryan Reynolds but we have had conversations on this forum in the past about his tendancy to fight his corner. I have a lot of colleagues over there and this is just normal behaviour, 'why wouldn't you do that' they would ask. As long as they are actually paying rather than doing a runner when the debts pile up, I'll grin and bear the culture shock
Ah, thanks for the clarity. This makes complete sense, and I retract any negativity over Accrington's part. Maybe they need Andy Holt to guest star in the next Deadpool so that they can do no wrong too.
I seem to recall that clubs can't charge higher ticket prices for away fans than home for comparable areas of the ground. Explaining why sometimes away fans are seemingly placed in odd areas as they are higher priced locations.

I live there 😊

I was going to offer up I once drove past their ground. But yours wins.
Joy Division recorded Unknown Pleasures in Stockport
So they did. Poor from me.
That's exactly what I feel about the whole thing.
It just gives the mistaken impression to the wider public that Wrexham are some sort of 'big' club.

Disorder. New Dawn Fades. He's Lost Control. Wilderness.
Could be the soundtrack to the first half of this season.
Shaun Harvey runs the show day to day, this sounds like his sort of ruse to me.
IMHO both acts are pretty sh1t
Does anyone have a link to Keith Ryan’s blinder at Wrexhams ground?

He doesn’t own them alone though, as you reported.
“Apparently the companies that Reynolds alone currently owns are worth an estimated 14 billion.”
That makes Lomtadze somewhat cash strapped in comparison!

A 4-1 defeat for us. Interesting to note that the attendance that day was 3,747, on Saturday November 5 1994.
Our average attendance that season was 5,856.

Clubs charging higher ticket prices for certain league games is a bit of a disgrace though isn't it?
I know Arsenal do, or at least did it, as I remember getting in on a guy at work's membership for about £25 once for Reading, as it was a "C" game.
Whereas the A games could be about £60!
It has been partially resolved at premier league level capping away tickets at £30, at least.
I’m sure Accrington’s argument is that their policing costs were much higher for that game.

Either way, it is going to be interesting to have Wrexham in the same division and see how we all feel about them a year or two from now.

I hate to think what their ticket price would be for a cup game against Millwall on that basis!

Or am I imagining that?
I’ve no particular problem with Wrexham or their good fortune but I believe they will find League One is a different fish kettle .
it a mix of fallen giants throwing money at their squads, debt ridden wannabes doing likewise and masters of the dark arts .
Oh and us
