Not just that but they play on the side of the River Trent that puts them outside the city of Nottingham. Notts County play on the other side of the Trent which puts them in the city of Nottingham.
Will try and keep it brief! From a young age 5 or 6 I'd do a footy coupon and Wycombe would be the only non league team on it each week. Felt like they'd never let me down and always won. Started looking out for results and would get a Wycombe kit for Xmas off my aunties.
Got to my first game at Wigan away in 93 and I'd of be 8 then. The next season (just looked up the fixtures) Stockport away I went with a envelope with my address on, asked 4 or 5 Wycombe fans if they'd take my envelope and some money and could they send me a pendant. They took the envelope but no money, shortwhile later I received a load of Wycombe goodies, hat, autographs, car kit the lot. I was probably already hooked but this just took it to another level.
As I got a little older and into my teens I'd mainly the north west games, met some good lads who I'm still in touch with today and just gone on from there really, loved nothing more than travelling on the train to a home game, meet up with some mates and watching the football.
Been to some good and not so good games in the past 30 years, met plenty of good people, watched my mate from by ours play for us (Peter Murphy) and now I enjoy taking my kids with me.
Never counted how many games I do a season but probably average around a dozen. Biggest regrets was missing the semi final against Liverpool (went to watch Everton v Man City instead) and Torquay away but like to think I've been lucky to see plenty of the big games in that time.
I've always gone the Everton game too since a baby and still do to this day. It's getting a little harder with the kids growing up and my eldest playing herself now but got Bolton and Bradford to look forward to in the next couple of weeks.
Fantastic story @ryan_w_kirkby2. Thanks for sharing. I saw you at the Wigan (a) with the family for Sadie's big night. Wonderful to think that that could have been inspired by a name on a coupon and an act of generosity all those years ago.
Geeky geography post...The definition of 'coast' is fluid. One definition is 'anywhere that is tidal.' I think the Thames is tidal as far as Windsor, which would make all of Thameside London on the coast. Certainly I would consider Liverpool by the sea as it's on the Mersey estuary where it has opened into permanent saltwater (sea).
One of life’s great joys is seeing how people can be so good to each other. Just imagine how different thinks could have been had the scratchcard featured our Essex rivals Colchester, Roy McDonough’s haircut was pretty close to the Scouse ideal.

The only British club to appear in the bible, Queen of the South.
I've been to the Allianz arena and it's way out of the city centre
Even better: there's a Montevideo Wanderers.
The Strongest won the Bolivian title last season.
Nottingham Forest don't play in a forest, the frauds.
Careful, you'll have half the gasroom running after you like Robin Hood on steroids

Madness
run for cover!
Oxford's home ground is soon to be in Wycombe so add them to the list. 😉
False.
Arsenal are mentioned in Jeremiah 50 verse 25.
Wolves: Matthew 7:15
Yep, there's a few others that are nicknames of clubs etc.
Or very loose, like the word "bury" being used
Not in the King James bible
Sheffield Wednesday play most of their games on a Saturday
Was aptly named..
Now masquerading as the Eco-Power Stadium
Speaking of Liverpool teams in South America, there is an Everton in Chile:
Everton de Viña del Mar - Wikipedia
I felt sure there would be a "Hull" in Acts 27 considering it describes a shipwreck in close detail, but no.
"Reading" appear several times.
Jeremiah 48:12 (King James Version)
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him Wanderers ...
I've been saying 'Jesus wept' a lot this season which is very biblical, I suppose.

Got sent this photo a few weeks back not sure what year its from.
That would be Xmas 94 or 95.
Great story about your Wycombe journey, especially the envelope part.
It’s built on/over a dock so technically it’s on what was the water, however it is about 2/3 miles from the sea as it sits on the river Mersey

What an incredible story. An act of kindness and generosity all those years ago secured generations of support for the football club
Football is genuinely brilliant
