it’s definitely not wrong. Just different. And very much a northern thing.
Nothing’s ever wrong apart of course from the main course not being a meal. But then again, if someone went out for lunch and had only the main course you’d ask them if they’d had a good meal. They’re very unlikely to respond that they only had the main course. In that situation, the main course was the meal.
A tricky one this. If the garden is south facing mother would suggest ‘the morning room’ although ‘the snug’ has a more relaxed tone. And when getting down from table “shall we sit soft?” is deemed acceptable amongst polite society, suggesting the sitting room rather than the drawing room (where drinks will have been taken before supper).
…….cue a thread re the use of parentheses {not brackets}
Not just Northern but Midlands too...Mrs W (Londoner) still gets irritated when I have my dinner in the middle of the day and me tea in the evening. As for pudding...a block of ice cream between two wafers in front of Basil Brush on a Saturday if you were lucky!
It is north of Watford...years ago a cockernee colleague introduced me to a Yorkshireman with the words 'You'll get on...you're both from the North' which led to an explosive 'Call that the North!!!!!????...' from angrily red-faced son of York. We are East Midlands...in the same way Birmingham is not North but West Midlands. Neither here nor there you might say...
North of Watford Gap used to be the cut off as "not south" which is just past Northampton and a fair bit further north than Watford, but still a way short of Nottingham.
Birmingham is actually only 1° north of High Wycombe. When they show the UK map on the weather they tilt it slightly clockwise to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

I imagine @micra has a library!
@micra How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!!?
Yes YOU laddie
I know it's wrong but I still call midday ish stop, dinner time, and in the evening, tea time.
If that make sense, seems odd even typing it out !
He does eat his greens though!
No idea what on earth most of you are on about.
Or why people are taking it so personally about an ex player of ours not making a different team's line up?

Nottingham is The North™ mate.
😵💫😡🤬
Oi! She is the Queen of the Midlands!
I've always classified Nottingham as the north
Aye, Northampton is the starting point I reckon, the clue is in the name.
The beating heart of "Not quite proper proper north"
Obviously "ampton" is the old Saxon word for "starts here".
Nottingham is 100% midlands. Clue is in the county name it resides in.
"Not in Hampshire"?
What about Northwood?
That's just north of wood.

Nottingham is definitely the Midlands
There are 10 Nottinghams in America
Why are Notts Forest fans so touchy about being from the north?
There is also a Wycombe in Pennsylvania:

Geography is not always exact, anyway - here in the U.S., much of the 'midwest' is in the east.
Dunno about that, but they'll definitely be touchy about you referring to them as 'Notts Forest fans' 😏
