Reflecting on the game @Chris has nailed it. For much of the match, going forward, we weren’t that competent in executing our plan. Last 20 with the subs on we became much better at executing the plan (possibly not the same plan as earlier) which also seemed to lift confidence and determination. Potts looked ‘up for it’ at the end of the game in a way he hadn’t earlier for example.
I think it’s still to early to tell if Matt’s ‘plan A’ will ever be competently executed by the players he has but it was nice to see his ‘close out a lead’ plan delivered well.
I don’t think anyone has ever said that winning while playing badly is a sign of a good team. And if they have they’ve misunderstood what they heard from someone else.
Rather it’s a good sign if a team can win when they play badly. There’s an important but subtle difference.
If you play badly every game, you may win the odd game but on the whole you’ll lose. But if you win the games you play well, and win the games you play badly - you end up as champions.
The saying is basically pointing out that good teams win even if they are playing badly.
Without again finding more things to work on, we do need to spend some time thinking about a plan for throw-ins. They were terrible for most of yesterday, and another occasion we just gifted possession back
As goal celebrations go, yesterday’s might not be GMac’s fave. Wacked in the chops in the goal mouth melee, big Chris checks he’s ok, gets pushed and wacks GMac in the chops again. Taking one for the team!
People do say it all the time, but The pre requisite to the saying is that the team has to be a good team. It’s usually said about a United/city/Liverpool/Chelsea type that expected to be or is at the top end of a league.
You don’t hear it from anyone but the most deluded fan/manager of a team that has spent 3/4’s of the season in the relegation zone and happen to win once.
I think for me, the winning in the context of waiting to gel/click/meet each other for the first time is welcome simply in that it buys us more time to gel/click/meet each other for the first time. If we never gel, it is insurance against relegation. If we do click, we did not get too far behind the promotion peloton.
Well said, I started to write the same thing in a longer way, as long as Blooms and the squad are accutely aware that they need to improve then let's hoover up as many points as we can in the meantime. Enjoy the next couple of weeks all. Fairly sure we won't lose or put in any bad performance until at least Blackpool. Anyone heard of that Rhodes guy? Seems promising.
That guy’s responsible for the only time I’ve left a Wycombe match early. I think we were 4 or 5 down by 60 mins or so, the game was on Sky and my little lad was cold (not a euphemism!).
I think it was 6-0 in the end with Rhodes getting 5.
I wonder how many goals a game he averages against us. There can’t be anyone with a higher success rate surely? I think I remember another hatrick he got against us for Norwich.
Indeed. Walking out of Sixfields with a ‘cheeky’ three points on a sunny afternoon was a pleasant feeling. Had we fucked it up after 80 minutes, sitting in that overflow field car park for 45 minutes would have been quite grim.
I’m pretty sure it was an ankle injury he sustained at Bristol Rovers and it was a really bad wound, so this might be a new injury or an error in the report.
Whenever we’re going through a period of not playing well, think back to that year of 0-6 twice vs Huddersfield, singing ‘how shit you must be, we’re winning away/home’ and pretending we’d scored whilst getting spanked away to Brentford.
I’m just pleased we are going into a two-week break on the back of a win.
I know these things really shouldn’t matter but my general mood does dip following a loss before picking up with (occasionally misplaced) optimism in the days nearer the next game.
Two weeks is an awfully long time to contemplate after a loss.
Of course he does, but just back from injury, no pre season, these two weeks will help fitness but still low on game time. Given all the above his contribution second half on Saturday is all the more impressive. Blooms knows this, third name on the team sheet for me.

Needs a gasroom "oooh matron" klaxon

People say it all the time! And I see what you mean about the distinction, but it's still a big cliché.

That said, I am in no way shape or form saying we are a good team. That jury is certainly still out right now

Oh no, they have Rhodes now?

Random reminder that we won. One nil. Against the odds
Away from home
Can't we all agree that whatever the performance - good, bad, debatable - it's still a better feeling when we win rather than lose a match.
Exactly. What do some people want? For us to play badly AND lose?

No, I think it is more wanting us to play well and win. Everyone on this forum would take a smash and grab, though!

Bugger. Taylor will be out a while yet.
He was moving pretty comfortably in the away end on Saturday. Could be precautionary.
The fact that it took a week to get to that conclusion suggests to me it is also not as bad as it could have been.
Good points from both of you - hopefully that is the case!
I’m pretty sure it was an ankle injury he sustained at Bristol Rovers and it was a really bad wound, so this might be a new injury or an error in the report.
Some of us don’t know where our calf ends and ankles begin 😬🤣
Some of us would be happy if we could still bend down far enough to see them at all!

Things then suddenly don’t feel quite as bad.

It's not well known. But Wycombe are going to win the league
Those two thrashings weren’t actually in the same season believe it or not.
The 0-6 home defeat was however in the same season as a 3-0 away defeat.
Not good times.
Wheeler has to start soon?
Completely agree
