Please don’t think this is in any way a defence of Greenwood. But…
I read comments from ‘a source’ saying basically how fcuked he is just not prepared for life. He’s described as aloof and fragile with the mind of a 14 year old. This is a terrible indictment on the Manchester Utd development system where a young man with outstanding football ability was fast tracked to first team football and all the pressure and rewards whilst his mind was still that of a child.
There is no good outcome in this. The victim would have no doubt dropped her accusations thinking that he will change (domestic abuse 101) and that before long money will solve all their problems. The reality is that they are now a young family adrift in the world like so many others.
I read that as well @TheAndyGrahamFanClub the worrying thing suggested by the 'insider' seems to be he does not know what he did wrong. According to the same article when him and Foden got kicked out of the England camp,(girls, breaking covid guidelines) he apologised as he was advised but did not really know why he had to.
These lads grow up in an environment where they are never wrong. The England incident was a crossroads for both players. Foden appears to have been contrite and moved on, good people around him? Greenwood carried on down the same path.
If we are serious about player welfare I would start with honesty.
I agree some are just not for fixing. And hearing comments like ‘he doesn’t know what he’s done wrong’ just begs the question how the hell can that happen? I don’t exclusively blame Utd but they do ‘brag’ that he’s been with them since seven they certainly have been part of his development into a grown up.
If United could have written a more inflammatory statement I don’t know how. Although I’m not sure what statement they could have made apart from ‘jeeeeez. What a piece of work?’
Add to that the ritual torturing of bulls to death as a spectacle to be enjoyed by the whole family, The city of Getafe treated themselves to a brand new bullring in 2004.
It amazes me that bullfighting has still only been outlawed in, I think, two provinces. Catalonia definitely - ages ago, the former Barcelona bullring is a shopping centre - and I think the Canaries.
Reminds me of growing up in Terriers in the 1970s. One day the plumber my dad used to get in from time to time appeared on a local leaflet as ‘Your National Front Candidate’.
Shamefully, my dad didn’t give him a second chance at redemption and we never saw him again.
Whilst I have zero sympathy for any of the parties the reality is that they have 2 assets that (appear to be) wronguns but they are worth, I dunno, £150million between them. No company is going to choose a moral direction v a balance sheet hit. And it they full well know that if they took a moral stand and kicked any offender off the payroll there would be a queue of clubs ready to take them on at the same or better terms.
If they were an ageing left back at Rochdale with a history of injury and 2 years left on their contract the club would take the moral high ground, announce their solidarity with a local women's group, find a clause in the player's contract and boot him out the door.

Alternatively, even at a footballing giant like Manchester United with a huge support network he's still gone off the rails.
Some people are unfortunately always going to self destruct.
You do worry what on earth sort of upbringing that child is going to have with this massive case in the background.

That club statement was very odd. "Satisfied" the accusations weren't accurate yet not giving details.

Just leave it at the "in the circumstances, it's best to move on" bit that they did have in there too.
He's gone to Getafe
Spanish football not exactly showering itself in glory at the moment

Tolerance of misogyny balanced with a bit of racism...swings and roundabouts for the fella.
He's gone there 'on loan' which still means that Man Utd are still keeping him on as a player and haven't released him as they said they would.....
Very very strange behaviour
They never once said anything about releasing him. Just that it's best for him to continue his career elsewhere.
Which is happening and he is incredibly lucky to be able to do so quickly.

As for United, their silence on Anthony is deafening...

Has Anthony done a bad thing now too?

One look at his face and you know he's a wrongun.
Yeah but what if there was a plumber who had the face of a wrongun? Would you let him fix your pipes? Would you?

That club is wrong from top to bottom. Living off the Success from the past and have been sucked dry of money to pay the debts of the owners.
They need a completely clean break and need the owners out ASAP.

I think he's a pussycat!
