I must admit that I've been surprised by the lack of internal pressure to seek peace. Russians love the western trappings and to restrict freedoms and access to materialistic lifestyles must hurt a lot of those in the Kremlin.

Putin said his plans had been with the council for weeks, were fully costed, and environmentally checked, were available for public inspection, and he was given the go-ahead for a full remodelling with 25 million new executive homes, a shop, a GP surgery, a primary school and some affordable housing on the edges near the by-pass. You can't start complaining retrospectively when the killing starts...
