Rain isn't a new invention. In fact it's one of the oldest inventions. It's farcical that England & Wales didn't at least give themselves a chance. The cameras kept panning to a giggling Stokes as a pressureless Barstow hit pointless runs to the boundary on Friday.
Every one of the management team should be put in prison.
Not a rabid cricket fan so posting from a neutral perspective view. To have a game any game lasting five days without a result is ludicrous. British weather is unpredictable so why do the authorities not have a sixth day available if required ?. The Ashes is clearly a very important contest that should have a positive conclusion at the end of each test regardless of weather conditions. It is obvious why shorter forms of cricket have become popular because a positive result is achieved, a win loss or draw. Must get my croquet kit out for a game. Looking out of window it is raining, life can be so tough.
TV, people and gates. The 5th day is discounted anyway as you might not get much or any play, a reserve day would have to let in everyone from the other days for free, and you'd have issues with travelling fans, commentators, TV crews etc not wanting to stick around or having anywhere to stay. Not impossible but a pain in the arse all round.
Public (private) schools employ their own exam boards with lower standards allowing stupid rich people to progress and the UK to regress. The UK is in a mess.
Not avoiding anything, you made a sweeping generalisation unsupported by any facts.
But, regardless of whether a student applies to Oxford University from a public school or comprehensive background, they all have to sit the same entrance exam, set by the University: Admissions tests | University of Oxford
So your theory above holds as much water as a leaky colander.
Ah so the proportion of students at Oxford University reflects the general population of the Uk in which ‘intelligence’ is of course spread equally. That’s good to know.
Quite so. Intelligence is not dependent on wealth or social 'class', anyone can be highly intelligent, average, or a bit thick, regardless of background.

We really should be 3-0 up, bit of a shocker really

Or a boat to some kind of convict colony
There are numerous times during this series where the Aussies must have been open-mouthed laughing in disbelief.
Came down to piss poor management in the end. Like pretty much everything in UK life in 2023
Why don't they have a reserve day or something to make up the time?

Great minds...
@micra championed this. Alas, he is not head of the ICB
If the series and match scores were reversed, I suspect England fans would be laughing and telling Australia to suck it up.
it rains in the UK especially on the West. It’s part of the game here.
On to the next match….
Superb
I like a bit of croquet but nobody to play with. Do you have facilities?
My balls are fine, but the hammer has seen better days
To be fair, @LX1, @micra had a very senior moment and thought that (as in days of yore) the match had started on Thursday.
Reserve day is a good idea in principle but, in Manchester, you’d probably need a couple.
My mate tells me reserve days used to be a thing but TV deals killed them off? That would make sense.

I'm sure @micra and others enjoyed the joke 😉
Sorry this was supposed to be my tinder profile
Ursine creatures defecate in sylvan environments.
The pontiff is head of the Church of Rome,
It rains a lot in Manchester.
Why is anyone surprised?

I see the politics of envy are alive and well in the Gasroom.
And what does any of the above have to do with cricket?
I see the avoidance illustrates a lack of intelligence.
And when has the gasroom ever kept to subject?

Do they not have interviews as part of the admissions process any more?

And the top Unis are now tending to favour pupils from less privileged backgrounds over private school pupils who enjoy all the advantages, as this article shows: How Britain’s private schools lost their grip on Oxbridge | Financial Times (ft.com)
I didn't mention university admission
Public (private) schools have their own exams.
This is a disgrace
Intelligence and the United Kingdom loses. Idiocy loses.
There is no justification for private education unless you are an enemy of the United Kingdom
Bargepole dissected into manageable pieces.
Carefully into each properly colour coded recycling bin
Public (private) schools hold their own exam boards.
This is an intelligent fact.
I suspect @bargepole is an Oxford United supporter
