Gutted by this one. I felt a pang of disappointment every time his name wasn’t on the team sheet. Absolute quality in that role. I wish him the very best of luck and hope he can stay relatively injury free for a few years at least.

He was a major part of that incredible team that Alan Gane put together that stormed the Isthmian League for the last time (maybe). One of the greatest ever seasons of my 57 1/2 years watching Wycombe.
I remember meeting him when we were both looking lost after getting off a train at Carshalton (I think) and the two of us spent 20 minutes or so wandering around asking random strangers if they knew where the ground was before eventually we found someone who did.
Some great players in that team! I may have been a kid when watching him play, but it's perfectly reasonable to mention Ashford in the same breath as Messi/Ronaldo(both)/Maradona/Cruyff/Pele etc.
Just going through Thommo's goals for us: a stoppage-time winner v Doncaster, that cracker v Oxford, and one in the 4-3 v Morecambe last season too (I think also the winner?).
Noel Ashford was always referred to as 'God'. Even the tannoy announcer at Loakes Park used to read out his name as that. A quite sensational player at non league level. Would completely transform any team he played for. Asides from Enfield, I don't think he stayed long anywhere.
Sadly Ashford and Carroll never shared a pitch at Wycombe.

Second one the 86/87 team as above
third one, the 92 /93 non league double team.

Agreed Noel Ashford must have had two footballing brains. His speed of thought, guile, and all round footballing ability sets him apart from any other Wanderers player in our Non League days.
