Stop it! Now I’ve booked Cambridge tickets. Win that and I’ll be rebooking the bloody Portsmouth Travelodge.
I’m now seeing Vokesy playing himself back to full match fitness over four flukey wins before we beat Wednesday at home and draw away in the playoffs. Then to Wemberley… Matty hailed as a saviour, access roads, new toilets, tapas in the Frank Adams, the lot.
If this giddiness doesn’t cease I’ll away to the Facebook group to read about our dogshit manager, players, owners, supporters, pies, drummers, atmosphere and partidges. That should kill any optimism stone dead, along with my optimism for humanity making another 50 years.
@aloysius I missed the serious point to engage with? He was recommended, MB interviewed him and other candidates and appointed him. Though you don't know about him, and feel you really need to, the fact he brought him back with him must means he must rate him. Your post seemed to suggest some underhand dimwittery which you thought was strange. I did not think it was strange. Seemed to be the usual process. Sorry to be facetious when you are trying to create backroom mystery.
Portsmouth Travelodge - sounds like a place to avoid, according to one reviewer:
Absolutely disgusting hotel, dirty sheets even though they had been brought in as new sheets. Extremely rude staff also. When speaking to the cleaners they were appallingly rude and insulting. I would never stay here.
I think it would be more difficult (and certainly more contentious) to name current ‘regulars’ who can’t play good (on the deck) football. I honestly can’t think of any and at our level that’s as it should be.
Whether they are currently doing so consistently is another matter entirely.
Totally agree, although I just smile inwardly rather than laugh out loud 🙂. Same with @Wendoverman’s stuff.
And fair play to the articulate, thoughtful, provocative and occasionally percipient @aloysius whose much criticised cautious cynicism in the past about the longevity of the Couhig custodianship now seems slightly less outrageous.
I'm fully backing Blooms, but the suggestion there was no viable alternative simply isn't true. Martin O'Neill basically threw his hat in the ring on TalkSport the week of Bloomfield being announced, and we were linked to a few other former L1 managers.
Has anyone considered that Ainsworth wouldn't even want to come back, and indeed left because he didn't like the longterm outlook at WWFC? Maybe he calculated that even failure at QPR within 15 games is better than being at a potentially cash-strapped post-Couhig Wycombe next season?
I realise next season is already a disaster that Gareth would not touch with a bargepole (no office @bargepole ) but if we are post-Couhig @OxfordBlue ...surely we might not be cashed strapped if he sells?
True - I think this is a defence mechanism for supporters of any club. For instance, many Arsenal fans are handing the league title to Man City, despite still leading the league by 4 points! It's their way of trying to cope with the disappointment of potentially falling away - "I saw it coming, therefore it does not hurt as much".
I think there is a lot to be disappointed over if we miss the playoffs, but much of it plain bad luck or timing, such as the endless key injuries or GA leaving. The effort has always been there, and in some ways it is amazing that we are nailed on for top 9!
Perfectly reasonable. If @drcongo wasn’t so good at the tech stuff (and kettle checking) I’d have multiple accounts - Mr Promotion Hopefull, Mr League Two-at-best and Mr Midtable Reasonableness.
Then I’d never be disappointed and always telling you all so.
According to one Wycombe Wanderers 'fan,' account on Twitter, we were 'never playoff contenders.' I don't think it's a parody but it's getting harder to tell.
I may be getting all of this wrong but I'm sort of glad I'm not clever enough, or experienced enough, to know how a season is going to pan out. Must make going to the games pretty dull...
It's a defence mechanism isn' it? If you expect to be disappointed you'll never be disappointed. Although given that if results go our way tomorrow i know i'll be as hopeful as ever, i'm not sure which is the greater sickness!
I don't think O'Neill 'threw his hat in the ring.' He was asked if he would consider going back into management and he said absolutely. Social media then engineered this into a connection with the Wycombe job.
Around the same time oily sailor asked O'Neill on a podcast if he would ever come back to Wycombe and he said no.

I don't really understand the race to proclaim the season over, as if there's some kudos in being the first to say it.
I don't know how much football people need to experience to know that weird things happen all the time.
Might as well keep trying until it's no longer possible, that's certainly what I'll be expecting of the team.
We've got people who have already proclaimed (pretty much) on here next season is 'over' too

POTD - made me laugh more than once

Rooms1.0Service1.0
Knowing what you might find in the kettle, would you consider booking a room at an alternative venue? (I am being a bit faecesious)
faecesious is very good @LX1
chapeau
You couldn’t muck it up.
You couldn’t make it up.
Je vous tire mon chapeau ! Merde.

This forum seems to be obsessed with former employees (players and now managers and coaches) "coming back".
We have a manager and a deputy. Our former manager and deputy did an amazing job here and are now employed elsewhere.
I wish all four every success in their jobs and hope they are all still employed in those roles for many years.

As the saying goes @floyd it's the hope that kills yer.
We could be if the Couhigs sell up to goons similar to those owning Crawley!

The fact he was doing the rounds with his new book had nothing to do with any statements around this I'm sure 😃
