  • Oh Arsenal

  • Hilarious. The Beeb actually published a match report about Villa denying Arsenal the win. Amateurs!

  • Nick Pope sent off for handling an absolute mile outside his box. One of the rarest red cards you'll see!

  • Getting himself a ban from the cup final in the process.

With the even more rare scenario that their 2nd choice keeper is cup tied...for Man Utd!

With the even sillier randomness, that Karius, last seen throwing a couple in for Newcastle's tormentors today, is their 3rd choice!

  • Bloody hell, hadn't clocked that. Will be quite something if they go and win it now...

  • Cue Karius having a blinder and all but winning the Cup for Newcastle having not played for anyone for two years and never appearing in any other game for Newcastle.

  • Premier League VARs proving their incompetence once again by doing naff all about that Sabitzer leg-breaker. Even Graeme Souness thought it was a red.

Might have been a leg breaker if he'd put any sort of force in.

Certainly wasn't trying to "do" the player like Sourness hilariously declared!

But it's another case of VAR being powerless to give at least the yellow no-one could deny.

  • There was one yesterday, where Saka trod on someone's shin. Not sure if it even went to VAR, but amazingly wasn't even a yellow either.

Definitely in the "seen them given" as red folder.

  • I was pro-VAR for ages, but it's plain to see our officials can't be relied upon to employ it properly.

  • There definitely feels like there's been a move away from correcting the ref.

A few of these flimsy ones where VAR won't overrule the way it's been called, but also wouldn't have overruled it if the ref had given it the other way!

  • VAR was brought in to supposedly take away a lot of controversy. It has not done that, so why even have it? I am sure many fans would deal with losing out on a few marginal decisions if it meant being able to celebrate properly again.

  • Former Alty skipper and manager John King has died.

King was skipper when Alty broke our hearts in 82, but got revenge in 91 when King was managing the Robins, as we went to Wembley at there expense.

  • Interesting that the capacity for the Coventry Arena is 40,000 for concerts and either 32,609 or 32,753 for football and rugby, both figures stated on the Wiki page. There were a lot of empty seats at the England game today.

  • Appropriate that before he plays at Wembley on Sunday, Liverpool and Real Madrid are doing a Loris Karuis tribute.

  • That was absolutely insane

  • Unreal turn around of a game that.

Must be up there with Liverpool's all time biggest European defeats?

  • First time they've conceded 4 at home in Europe, never mind 5

  • If Madrid hadn't spent the last 20 just keeping the ball comfortably it could have easily been more.

  • First time they’ve lead 2-0 and lost 5-2 since 1895. Eighteen ninety five.

  • Not very remarkable given the chances

  • Sorry missed the levity

  • Outrage in Spain at Liverpool fans' abhorrent behaviour against Real Madrid, as crowds refuse to racially abuse Vinicius Jr.

  • Usual types out piddling on the independent regulator idea.

David Sullivan is disgusted by any suggestion of government intervention in football. Particularly anything that might harm the old boy flogging his club that just happen to have finances entirely based on a long and dirt cheap lease on a massive tax payer funded stadium.

Others citing "only" a couple of league clubs go into wholly preventable admin each year and other (weekly) regulated industries aren't perfect. Regulation in the financial services industry over the last decade or so has made the companies involved protect funds and look after vulnerable customers in ways people wouldn't believe but football never did give two shits about fans.

A Wimbledon supporting friend attached the above to a recent email. I’ve replied to his email - covering inter alia his doubts about how well GA will fare at QPR and Matt Bloomfield at Adams Park ! - but I couldn’t comment on the disturbing events at Loakes Park in November 1963 as I wasn’t there until 1968. It sounds most unlike the kind of behaviour generally associated with Wycombe Wanderers

  • Apparently Motty has died.
