Rugby is not a sport !! But a class riddled pastime. Mr Bargie, you are somewhat different to most egg chasers, I've had the misfortune to encounter. They would have 'Soggy Biscuit' just behind getting bladdered at Rugger in there list of favourite hobbies.
Different age different standards I suppose. Sadly many of those in the stadium would have been well used to seeing dead and often mutilated bodies. Just shows how war dehumanises.
Yes Peter, and if we hadn’t allowed Normid to do it there probably wouldn’t be a Bolton Wanderers today. It was a bit of a pain for away fans who were on there but there was no other option at the time. My now departed Pa was there on the day, not on that end thankfully, and it was an obviously awful event. It was one of the barriers that collapsed leading to a surge forward. Thankfully all seaters now prevent that in big stadia.
@ChasHarps , I hope your pre-match lunch is a balanced diet - a chip on each shoulder.
Oh, and you really should appreciate the difference between 'there' and 'their'. Grammar is the difference between knowing your shit, and knowing you're shit.
Thanks for posting that link @wanderlust. Not an event I'd heard of - it was awhile back after all. I suppose for a generation that had just lived through WW2, playing a football match with corpses still getting cold by the pitch side wasn't so shocking?
But as so eloquently put by @OakwoodExile "JFC". It does make you wonder what they were thinking though!
Yes - when times got hard they sold it to a company called Normid which led to a sponsorship deal and the infamous "Norpig" inflatables - presumably a nod to our former nickname The Trotters - which I believe actually had nothing to do with pig's feet and more to do with our ground relocation in the early years.
As for the Burnden disaster it was a disgrace that the match continued, but there were concerns that there might be further deaths if the crowd (est 85k) were asked to leave. Stanley Matthews was on the Stoke team so a lot had come to watch him

Bargers is a character but welcome aboard son eh
Is that the same end they put the supermarket in?

Can I just say "holy shit" at that Dempsey goal. Absolutely brilliant.
That is an absolutely staggering fact (if true). I know it was not long after the war but I have to echo those final three words

You will fit in well on here…
Cheers and to @FarmerCee for replies. Was still a fantastic and historic ground even with the supermarket when I visited
It's a guy who was trying to educate us on how good Wasps was for our club!
I’m sure he understands much more about why many of us on here are so anti Wasps.
I’ve enjoyed his insight in to the other side of the fence and these floaters should be positively encouraged to attend our family orientated club.
Maybe he will pay to come and watch after that performance.
@bargepole would be welcome in the family stand. If there are any seats left.
Yes, I'm definitely aiming to attend the remaining Saturday home games, and will pay if I can't get a free ticket.
Can't do Tuesday nights, that's my Poker League night.
Stud or strip?
