Oh goodness, Dobbo and Ainsworth have done it again. Perhaps their most impressive signing, rivalling Sam Vokes.
It is perfect for Forino's development as perhaps our brightest ever CB prospect (harsh on Stewart and Kortney Hause) will have arguably our best CBs to learn his trade from.
That aside, playing-wise, he is personally the most talented player I have ever seen in a Wycombe shirt, and I can't wait to see him.
I am usually bored by the 'new signing interview' as they are mostly bland. Mawson comes across as intelligent and level-headed.
Maybe it was even worth a summer's worth of waiting ha.
You’re spot on @Blue_since_1990 . I listened to the commentary that afternoon and couldn’t get over the number of times I heard the name Alfie Mawson. He was clearly having a really impressive debut. Like most other people, I’d never heard of him but later that day it came to light that he’d been signed from Brentford, literally the previous day, and that his only previous experience had been with Brentford youth sides.
Great relaxed and thoughtful interview earlier today. What a reception he’ll get on Saturday. Just wonderful to have him back.
When @Otter87 asked what number shirt we thought he’d be wearing, I was tempted to say “who gives a flying f**k” but, as it turns out, it is a very famous shirt indeed, last worn by our leading goalscorer since joining the Football League.
Alfie has scored a few crackers himself in his time, not least that stunning third goal at Kenilworth Road that probably put paid to any hope we might have had of retaining him.
The only post by @aloysius I can see on this thread is the one where he describes the signing of Alfie Mawson as the best since Gary Doherty. It has one downward thumb.
I was surprised by the comparison but perhaps it would have made more sense if he’d explained that he was comparing the signing of central defenders. If that was indeed what he was doing.
is it acceptable for a 60+ year old, to follow the notification from the official app earlier today and then spend the next 10 minutes jumping manically around the (thankfully air conditioned) office like a five year old?
You are quite right Micra, I had a senior moment and thought it had 11 downward thumbs, not one so apologies to Aloysius as well. In my defence I have an eye infection (too much information?) and blurred vision so I need those rose tinted glasses I’m often accused of wearing!

'...and we were staring relegation in the face.'
‘…and as I recall we’d played the first couple of games without a keeper.’
Fantastic news, will be great for the young centre backs to work with someone of Alfie's experience
Yes indeed. That’ll teach me to read from the beginning 🤦♂️🤦♂️
This was much more interesting than a typical player interview. Seems like a good lad.
The state of the squad as it stands

We've never won league 1 for starters!
To be fair Malone that had me scratching my head for a moment or two. It's worrying when you start forgetting things like that...
😊
Keep singing, Trev.
Second most talented player ever in a Wycombe shirt, I think Eze takes that honour.

Yep that is correct.
One of the senior fringe players to go out on loan then
I guess Parsons is most likely
Yes @micra. When the team was announced I remember thinking why on earth is this chap plying ahead of Danny Rowe, who was on the bench.
After about 20 mins I had forgotten about Danny Rowe and was totally amazed by this new guy (Alfie Mawson).
There was also a new comer called Joe Jacobson if I remember correctly.
Time goes so quickly @micra but we have been very lucky to support the Chairboys.
I was surprised to see it was you saying this about shirt number.
A man of your detail orientation I would have thought would hold shirt number with paramount importance!
As i'm an old bugger for me it was Tony Horseman a true club legend.
Normally I hate to wish my life away but right now I just want it to be 3 o’clock on Saturday
Forgive me but I can’t work out if you are pleased or being sarcastic.
Don’t know what happened there but I was referring to the post by Aloysius and the large number of thumbs down it received.
Ok I’m now excited!!!
Imagine a back 3 of Taf Alfie and Forino jogging upfield for a JJ corner with Vokes already waiting.

Just asking for a friend…
Apologies @aloysius - I misquoted you (memory failure) in my post of 6.12 but the rest of my post remains valid.

Signing Gary Doherty permanently after he'd been on loan was a massive piece of business at the time. Mawson is significantly younger though.
