I'm a huge fan of the BBC, but I do feel that they significantly undervalue what has made them so valued, and this is part of that. They aren't a commercial broadcaster, and I wish they would stop behaving like one.
@DevC ’s view on this subject has made me more certain it is wrong. The BBC have once again assumed apathy that isn’t there. Six Music, BBC Three and an attempt to cut TMS are others that spring to mind.
He was such a lovely bloke, always smiling and cheerful despite the handicap of losing the use of one leg after being paralysed with polio as a child. He’d have been horrified by this decision by the BBC as is just about everyone else I have spoken to about it.
I’m guessing discretion may have been the better part of valour. Tempting as I might have been (given my well known penchant for, often unwittingly, making outrageous comments) I like to think I would have recognised that it was a bit rude and probably pointless to draw attention to something that had been occurring for decades.
I’d not noticed it myself to be honest but assume he said ‘Wandererers’ ? Not easy to say. But I wonder how many people may have said “ that’s easy for you to say “.

I remember when they were on TV, all noise at my grandmother's had to stop so she could check them off on her pools sheet. This is quite soothing...

James Alexander Gordon wins that hands down.
Not having that @micra when Mark E Smith once read them out: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/42820514

Anyone aware of any online petitions?
Did you ever discuss his inability to say "Wanderers" without adding an extra syllable?
Did he even know he did it?
Is complaining on the gasroom your way of "letting off steam", never mind stay on track and don't fall off the rails on this.
Well it didn't unite the whole gasroom did it 🤷😅
Absolutely. Nothing in this horrible whole wide divided world will ever do that. At least no-one died. As far as we know.
Nothing? Not even MK Dons going bust?

That is indeed what he said.
Its the sort of thing that you might talk about if you were really good friends with someone I think. Less likely to if not.
Was just interested anyway, and certainly meant no offence.
I'd forgotten that, but in my head I can hear him saying it clear as day.
I dare say it was mainly fans of us, Bolton and Wolves who picked up on it
James Alexander Gordon could never quite say Wanderers from memory. I think it was ‘Bolton Wandererers 3-0 Wycombe Wandererers’.
I think that was probably due to him contracting Polio when he was a teenager.
