I imagine it’s because he’s out of contract next summer (or so I’ve seen) so they’ve got to make the decision of should they try and sell him this summer or extend his contract and then loan him out. Last thing they want to do is loan him out without extending his contract, because if he comes to us and is brilliant, there’s every chance a championship club may come along next summer and take him for free.
Agreed. Although it didn't work out in the end, GA had no issues in putting Pendlebury in the team at the start of last season when we were light on numbers.
He MORE THAN proved his worth. Can be deemed a little unlucky due to our wealth of talent in his position.
The idea of a "squad" is that your replacement is good enough to step in when called upon. What kind of message is it to Tyla Dickinson if he sees a revolving door of young GK's come and go without playing a game - because we choose to go and loan from a big club as we ultimately don't trust him. Bishop is young too - what's saying he's better than Tyla??
Some very good points there @thecatwwfc but I got the impression (on very little evidence, admittedly) that games tended to pass Ollie Pendlebury by. But the fact that he seemed unable to get game time was probably due to the level of competition (eventually) in central midfield rather than any serious shortcomings on his part.
He’s still only 20. We wish him well for the future.
Pendlebury is an example. Maybe not the best. Mehmeti probably a better one.
Goalkeeper is a difficult one to be thrown in at the deep end....but does anyone REALLY think that GA has not tried? On the other hand, he sees Tyla every day - he may well be ready for it! You have to start somewhere right?
The plus side to bringing young players through is if they perform - the club gains transfer fees. Otherwise, what's the point? We keep signing players and they all rot in the B team.
From what I remember of it we were able to give Ingram a slightly softer introduction - a couple of relatively meaningless matches at the end of the season.
Saturday will be a little bit different given the level of expectation loaded onto the first day of the season (across all 72 clubs).
However, you have to start somewhere and if you’re good enough, you’re good enough. I’m sure Gareth, Dobbo and Lee will have a good idea whether Tyla is ready.
@ReturnToSenda - is TODAY the day? The teddy bears were disappointed they didn’t get their picnic yesterday and I was also disappointed we didn’t sign Bishop.
I'd like to settle some minds, I spoke with a friend of mine last night who works and often drives the team coach to away fixture. They confirmed that the club HAVE signed Bishop as they are just changed Stocko's locker so that it's now Bishop's.
You heard it here first but time to stop panicking!
I wonder if there’s a chance we are negotiating a permanent deal. Last year of contract, highly rated but also down the pecking order. Probably never going to get a look in at United. Given he already has a relationship with LH, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a loan-to-permanent or a straight out permanent transfer.
Ok I'm going to have a little moan here, I know all won't agree. But, if we have already signed Bishop and the club just havnt announced it yet, and are in some way enjoying keeping the fans guessing and playing along with it ( Taff's tweet or whatever it was yesterday etc) knowing that it's winding a lot of people up, I think that's a pretty poor show ! No fans, no club.
I’d guessed someone would have already suggested it. I personally think we will sign him on loan until January and there’s a good chance it will become permanent then.

I thought @Malone was @Wanderers82 better side?
Could both be GA I suppose. 😏
In Wycombe’s fair city
where the rumours are bitty
no transfers shall happen
till confirmed by @Malone
as he casts forth his Tarot
’gainst odds high and narrow,
singing, “Bishop’s a dead cert, alive, alive-o”
Brilliant, @PBo!
It's funny the posters we mix up. I thought you were Trevor, but slightly less moribund☺️

Brilliant!! 🙌🙌
Have we had any choice but to be patient?!

Genuine question but how popular was the decision at the time to promote Ingram? He was already in place when I returned as an ST.
It's a tough gig for a keeper to get action. You'd have to think Bishop is better, having been at Manchester United for years.
Pendlebury had a great 2 goal game at Cheltenham, but only made 4 league appearances, in a season Gape and Thompson missed a lot of games.
So i'm not sure that's worth a capitalised MORE THAN proving his worth.
For a player that was brought in as a development player, to step up and perform when called upon goes down as "proving your worth" in my book.

This is the most perceptive post on the subject that I’ve seen so far.

I should also add that Ingram looked the part straight away so it was no surprise that he started the following season as our no.1.
I bet I'm more rotund, for sure. No one needs to ask "Who ate all the pies?" in my house! 😋

I really hope we announce Jason Vicar and Allie Mowson signed from step 12.
From the responses on that thread it looks like Gareth and co have a plan about how to go about these things. Who could have guessed?

He's been signed a fair old while. It's all about when we get round to actually announcing it 🤣
Thinking out loud.

The devil must be in the detail.
I think 90% of this thread is thinking out loud @Gary .

Rant over, sorry
Relevant to your own post of 10.08 @Gary . @glasshalffull thought this the most perceptive post on the subject that he’d seen so far.
