Its something that he got into during the lockdown period and helps him to de-stress and switch on/off on his way to the training ground or home. However I worry about the risk that cycling also carries. I bet he's prob had a few close calls!
Hi @Wanderers82 I have stayed quiet throughtout the discussions and have seen both sides going back & forth.
While your original view at the beginning of the Summer Transfers where you said that the squad is weaker than it was last season. I don't think many people could disagree as we have signed some unknowns but on the other side of the argument, they are unknowns and we know nothing about them.....yet.
What I'm saying is trying to help you. Sometimes it worth to make your point and stay quiet. Try not to take things personally, accept that your view isn't the same as everyone else's and move on. Please stop saying the same thing again and again that is now starting to annoy everyone. Park this thought and MOVE ON
I must admit I’ve had 50+ years of watching football and know pretty much sod all about it…
But if we assume that GA has been given an objective by his boss to try and get us promoted again (and the evidence of the past few years seems to suggest that is a reasonable assumption) I think we can also say he is expecting to sign Bishop as first choice GK to achieve that aim.
knowing so little about football however I am in no position to judge whether @Wanderers82 or GA is right about Bishop’s abilities or potential
Great 30 minute YouTube interview with Nathan Bishop with hysterical subtitles but unfortunately I don’t know how to put a link on here. He was a centre back until he was 16 !
Indeed it is. And I’m not sure why I described it as “great” (though it may be) because I only watched the first few minutes. It was the hysterical subtitles which tickled me. Will probably watch the rest of the interview later.
Bishop would be a genuinely outstanding signing in my opinion. Proven League 1 quality. Great age. Man Utd youth product. Fending off interest from other clubs. Only one year left on his Man Utd deal, which will likely not be renewed, giving us an opportunity to seize his long term future after the loan).
It might take him some time on the training ground to find his kicking boots, but once he can regularly pick out Vokes I’m confident he’ll be fantastic for us.
I met Bermondsey Boy Jordon Ibe at the training ground when he was 15 or 16 and he had definitely come through our youth system. Now “plying his trade” in Turkey.

My guess would be either 39 or 40.
People very rarely see it anyways because he cycles to the training ground from Finchampstead every morning
Wow that’s 28 miles each way with a couple of serious hills
What would be the point of that? Tyla Dickinson will be the no2.

I am looking forward to seeing Bishop,, hopefully he will help Tyla step up a notch too
Is my memory fading but did we not have both future Premier League winners Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichal visit AP as young first team keepers?
Bishop played 31 games in League One for Southend a few years back.
Had a good game in that crazy for 4-3 at AP from what I remember, just let down by the absolute shambles in front of him
I'd forgotten about the absolute peach of an OG in that game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Bhz9pCiE9k
Scotty K was great back then
That Freeman pass for the winner is as good as ever.

So if we do get him that's a 2 for 1 deal
And so was your post @JohnnyAllAlone.
Is this the one?
Nathan Bishop Tell us how he started in Football (full interview) - YouTube
The first Southend goal, it looked like such a weak save attempt from Allsop
Nick Freeman was unbelievable in that match. That last goal is, I think, my favourite Adams Park goal ever. The own-goal possibly a close contender.

Seems like a nice boy.

United playing a friendly today - Bishop not named amongst the 17 (!!!) subs. Seems to further suggest a move is close
I am excited for Bishop, one of the standout performers in L2 last season, a young keeper who can grow with a lot of game time.
Plus, even though I loved Stockdale's character, I will be pleased not to see Shirley again.
Could imagine Ant and Dec in the interviewers ear piece there😂
Nathan came across really well in that interview. Grounded, educated, fairly local and out of contract in 12 months time. What’s not to like!!
He's not a Man United youth product - let's give Southend some credit!
Sssh, or we won't be able to claim Ibe, and Johnson as our own youth products either.
I met Bermondsey Boy Jordon Ibe at the training ground when he was 15 or 16 and he had definitely come through our youth system. Now “plying his trade” in Turkey.
I don’t know about ‘Johnson’.
Have you watched the interview with Nathan Bishop @Malone ?
