Some of the posts last night sent me to bed trying to conjure up all sorts of marquee signings. . Woke up this morning and thought Andy Carroll is a free agent - can’t seem to get a club and a target man striker with fitness issues who could make an impact from the bench. Reality then set in regarding monies and whether he fits the WWFC mould.!
I just can't see how the length of a contract will not quickly get out in the public domain. All the players in the squad are likely to know their teammates length of contract, their families and possibly friends as well. Most importantly, the players Agents will know so the information will leak out to other clubs anyway, particularly when they are marketing their clients who want a move.
If keeping them secret was practical, all the top clubs would be doing it - financial staked are infinitely higher at the elite level than they ever will be at ours. I don't for one moment think the Couhigs are doing anything shady here, but I've yet to see how it gives us an advantage. But maybe we as fans have just got too used to convention (i.e. knowing contract lengths).
Well that was underwhelming! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Gareth has signed an extension but equally thought this was going to be a player unveiling...
Interesting after all this talk of privacy for employees that the club have announced the length of Gareth's deal! Perhaps it's not all about privacy then.
Mawson part was interesting, could be read either way. I thought it was long the lines of it won't be Mawson but watch this space but who knows!
I wonder whether we did have someone lined up but we've been gazumped last minute or there has been a hitch e.g. illness that means said player cannot sign this morning.
The person who needs criticising is the journalist at the Ben Stokes press conference. He asked who would be making way for Anderson, despite Stokes already telling him. He then asked about 'needle' in the previous England v India series to a bloke who was away from cricket at the time, dealing with mental health issues...
Well done the 'ginger bloke' for his clarity. Not a "like you say" in sight...
So Gaz has signed a extension of unknown length to a contract of previously unknown length. Don't begrudge him a pay rise but that is all it is isn't it?
Comments
That's the crux of it
@Malone is clearly an ITK, as he knew about Bayo too. Can you imagine if he was GA or Dobbo all along?

Vokes was announced live on Sky... would the cameras really turn up for a standard pre-season interview if they had nothing to add?
New crisp supplier
I think the psychedelic keeper kit, and McGinn were announced live on Sky. Could be something happening
OMG! Walkers Marmite Crisps are back?
Ruth?

P**s on the party - before it's even started - why don't you?
That's ruined my day ...
It’s Uche isn’t it?

Maybe not!
Wayne Rooney making a lower league comeback?
It was just never going to happen
I’d made the mistake of letting myself believe it. To be fair, I’ve been wanting him back since he left.
Certainly wouldn't say no to Uche, but he'll be off to another Champ club

So if it’s not a new signing live on Sky at 11.30am (as Ian Baker hints). Is it a new contract for Gareth Ainsworth? Seems the most plausible option.
Only if Sky don't ask how long it's for
Pete explained yesterday why they've decided not to disclose contract lengths. I still disagree entirely - fans should know basic details like that - but if it ultimately gives us some kind of advantage in the transfer market then... 🤷https://twitter.com/petecouhig/status/1542185176138137602?t=ORtnkv7jSLd8CmjbHVCkHg&s=19

I see Gaz's Sky Sports News appearance has been killed so we can listen to some ginger bloke struggle to put words into a sentence.
I'm stoked for this interview, c'mon Gaz!
They didn't even have to ask!
It felt like Hayley presenting led the first question thinking there was a transfer, and was a bit thrown by the contract extension.
Gaz encouraging children to invade the pitch. Sickening.

Any Dobbo news?
