New Manager Rumour Mill

  • Totally agree. In his interview Sam Vokes said that when Blooms left everyone got together and said let's keep what we have been doing and stick together. So why get someone in who will want to change things. From the interviews on Pre match drills the two Sam's know exactly what they are doing and it's working. We have 7 points from the new management team from the last 3 games verses 4 from the last 3 games of the old manager.

  • Do you know what SG & SV would be great, keep this until the end of the season and then review. Sometimes the answers are right in front of you, you just need to know where to look.

  • Nice to hear that Sam Vokes absolutely sh*ts himself during those painful 8-10 minutes of added time, just like us fans...!

He's always been an interesting listen, but that for me was the most open and candid interview that Sam V has ever given at WW. His steely blue eyes are completely focussed on getting us promotion, and not just from the side. It was also obvious from the interview that the play-off defeat hurt him badly, and he doesn't want to repeat that..!

  • Stating the obvious but we need to be extremely careful with who we appoint. An experienced manager (coach) will no doubt want to change the way we play, have a different approach to man management etc etc. We want someone to takeover who's happy to change very little on and off the pitch (at least at present). Not sure there are many experienced managers out there who fit the bill.

  • I am not so sure . It is easy to have this sentiment after 7 points in three games but we rode our luck in all three of those games. We were less than convincing. 2nd half at Manfield and it could have gone very differently, they battereded us in the second half . Northampton was an awful performance. I fear a few are getting a little doe eyed because of the emotion of Tuesday night . If Barnsley had not missed their absolute sitter again it could have gone very differently and they were down to 10 men. In short luck has also played a part in those 7 points. We have a huge March coming up and how are things going to feel if we lose a couple on the bounce.Who says a new manager has to change anything until next season anyway ? The games against B'ham Wrexham and Huddersfield are going to be pressure games and need some real tactical prowess to negotiate them . If we lose a couple the atmosphere from the fans will change and the pressure will mount. An inexperienced Sam Grace will have to deal with that .Having said all of this ,it is increasingly starting to feel like the owners may share your opinion rather than mine. Either way I think some feedback from them would not hurt . If they are going to stick with the Sam's then they should announce this . I don't think this tumble weed is helping stability at all.

  • Must of been some interest if we spoke to him..

I've also said all along Bolton is a great move for him and them and with it being local that's the added bonus.

  • It’s history now but how do you know for sure that we spoke to him?

  • I don't think the Bolton position coming up has helped us for sure . Let us hope we don't get another couple of clubs entering the manager market soon with our laboured progress dragging on .

Grace is referred to as interim manager in the Cambridge preview - is that a change?

  • The good thing is...the interim team seem to be keeping us competitive so the management group can make sure they pick the right person for the job. (Not Stevie G or Rooney if at all possible...)

Anyone who loses a game gets it in the neck. It's very rare even in our unbeaten run that we looked completely on top, but that's League One football. Northampton was a classic top v bottom game in my opinion...and we did not lose it. Both Mansfield and Barnsley were typical Wycombe never say die performances for me which is very encouraging.

We can worry about who is coming in next to screw it all up for us...but at present the Sams and co are doing all right.

  • No an "interim " manager is just that ,a temporary manager until a new manager come in. I don't think the word "interim" suggests a change in the length of time. In any case we should not be trying to decode riddles 😂 we could really do with some clarity .

  • There's a distinction between 'caretaker' and 'interim' imo, the latter tending to be used when you've got someone lined up to come in at a certain date, like Carsley was before Tuchel.

  • I know we did.. won't post it on here, but happy to chat with you in private.

  • You've been taking lessons from @kipper with teasers like that! 🤣

  • As I said, it’s history now that he’s been appointed as manager of Bolton so no longer of interest to our club.

  • Not at all mate, don't claim to be ITK or anything. I only replied to a comment hopping wanderer made about missing out on Schumacher and I said we had our chance as the Bolton one wasn't available at the time.

AP replies with you don't know if we were even interested in him and I just said I know we've spoken to him. Was happy to leave it at that, but I got a comment how do you know for sure.

Don't have to justify myself to anyone, I've been posting on here and going the game long enough, I haven't just opened an account to start rumours.

As he says he's gone now and I think it's a great appointment by Bolton and a good opportunity for him at a big club.

  • @ryan_w_kirkby2 I was just messing with you, I didn't mean anything by it. What you bring to the table is really interesting and hope to see more in the future! 👍️

  • Possibly but don't think it's set in stone. They can call him what they like.

You'd hope they will make a decision before too long, and someone will tell us if they've made that distinction just to quell the noise but it's more important for the players than us , and they are doing admirably amid all the varied speculation of the last few weeks.

  • True, but he's referred to as both in different places on the club site!

  • I’m not convinced that ‘culture’ is going to be as important an attribute going forward. We have, for the past decade, signed ‘Wycombe types’ but I’m not sure that will be a thing anymore.

  • interim caretaker until we get the caretaker before we get the permanent coach. Seems clear to me 🤣

  • It was reported at the Trust meeting last night that the owners are taking their time to ensure they get the right person.

  • Caleb Taylor interview with Phil suggests he has told Joe Low there is a competition with him for goals. Would suggest Low isn’t leaving. Also maybe Low/Taylor are the preferred choice.

  • Think that’s a case of putting a positive spin on it as they had already been turned down by at least one candidate within 10 days of Bloomfield exit.

  • Bradley has obviously been superb since coming in, but Low and Taylor were an imperious partnership in the first half of the season. One of the best CB pairings this club has ever had. Bradley can feel hard done by, but I'd be reverting to that pair with Bradley, Skura and Anders ready to rotate whenever needed.

  • I'd be very careful with that, Very difficult to get it back once lost, and a couple of million spent this January doesn't mean we can always throw unlimited money at every problem.

Why would you ever drop simple checks to ensure people are decent humans and collective culture is good.

  • I could see us going to a back 3 with that depth.

  • Apologies if that came across as harsher than it was meant to be. I appreciate your offer of discussing it privately but I honestly don’t see the point now that he has a new job. I suspect our senior management have discussed many potential candidates and spoken to many of them.
