Steadying the ship is one thing, going with the players they know.
But integrating these 4 newbies and making tough selections from a squad of 30, where quality players might not even get in the 18 is quite another thing.
Of all the names mentioned on this thread I would love to see Schumacher or Carsley, I think the likelihood of the former is sadly receeding; but am keeping fingers crossed for the latter.
I think Sam Grace is fine to steady the ship short term but it really isn't ideal longer term for the reasons so many other posters have mentioned.
My understanding is that the club have approached the FA about a member of their staff, other than Lee Carsley or Jack Wilshere, I am unsure who we would want to get their permission to talk to.
I could think of worse appointments than those two.
And I have zero knowledge about how good either of them would be as a manager. Always had a soft sport for Antwi but Cole would be a marquee signing that could go either way.
They are both more likely than Carsley though, imo. But I’d be happy to be proved wrong.
I'd prefer Antwi to Cole, personally. There is always that fear for me that a "big name" is not totally there on merit. It may be unfounded with Ashley, but it seems like a huge risk.
It's one hell of a difficult appointment really. The exact opposite on the spectrum to the last appointment.
We need someone who will buy into being a head coach, not a manager, understand that they'll not be the decision maker on transfers and face sky high expectations from day 1 fuelled by our recent spends. They also need to play the "right" style of football to suit a squad they've not assembled.
On the plus point, they're coming into a really exciting opportunity, will pick up a really strong squad and it's not often you get to walk into a team sitting in the top 2 of the league!
If it’s true the the owners have been given permission to have a chat with Lee Carsley, then I hope something can be agreed and Lee’s the man. He’s not tarnished with the sack from another club, has had moderate success at a few clubs ( and obviously England) in an interim capacity , and whilst operating in the head coach role .

Whatever else you can say about this process it certainly hasn't been quick!
Stuart Kettlewell just resigned from Motherwell...wonder if he will pop up in the (very misleading) betting odds soon

Personally brought Skura in too.

Either of these names would be massive appointments for us. A real statement of intent.
Is Carsley actually a genuine option?
Or have we heard a rumour and started putting 1 + 1 together and getting the complete works of Shakespeare?
It seems almost farcical that his name is being mentioned as an option to take over.
But then had you told me a month ago that the club would spend an estimated £2m on players I would have thought you were quite quite mad.
Turned down the Ireland job in the summer, seems unlikely.

Is Wilshire on the FA staff? Thought he was with Norwich now
@StrongestTeam my bad, you are absolutely right he is now one of the first team coaches at Norwich
Bridget the tea lady !
Ashley Cole?
Regarded quite highly by some. And I’m sure said on the Peter Crouch Podcast he wanted to become a manager/head coach

apologies for the Daily Mail link…..
Would Rice and Cole been at Everton together during the Lampard time?
@TheDancingYak yes indeed it could be Ashley Cole or a real out of left field choice Will Antwi
Does Stuart Pearce's girlfriend (with him on Saturday) still work at the FA? 🙂

Think cole would be a gamble not sure it’s the right time for us to take a chance .
It's tricky. We are in an attractive position for a marquee managerial signing. As were Birmingham...

Anyone, regardless of name, will be a huge gamble if they have never been a manager or a head coach before.
Tbh, Even Managers that have done the job before will be a gamble. It’s always a bit of a gamble.
I just hope we have someone that plays a similar style of attractive attacking football we have had so far this season.
Ashley Cole

She's 3-1 second favourite.

Fingers Crossed.
‘Ashley Cole’s Wycombe’?
ITK?
I'm not, but his name has been mentioned by people who seemingly are. Isn't he part of Tuchel's staff at the moment?
We would definitely have some LB backup if it is Ashley Cole! I bet he could still lace them up at L1 level.
